(Gally x Reader)

A few beads of sweat rolled down your temple, your bottom lip beginning to sting from how hard you were biting down on it, your brows furrowed in intense concentration, all while you were struggling to finally saw through this one stupid chunk of wood. It was a particularly thick one - you’ve been at it for almost ten minutes, with frustratingly minimal results. The muscles of your right arm were positively aching, pleading for you to drop the shucking saw and just ask somebody for help.

However, your resolve was stronger than your protesting muscles. You could do this. You didn’t need help.

You gave yourself a minute to rest before drawing in a deep, determined breath, and getting right back to it. You couldn’t believe it - will all this effort, you’d only managed to saw through half of it, thus far. Gally always made it look so easy…

“Having a bit of trouble there, baby?”

Promise Me - Gally (The Maze Runner)

Welp, thought I was done writing about Gally...but my dreams/nightmares told me to fuck off apparently. So, here's whatever this is, this being pretty sad and bittersweet perhaps, depending on how ya look at it. Warning though, it's really short, but it wasn't meant to be long. Hope ya can forgive me

Asleep in the Scorch, you tossed and turned.

You barely ever got any sleep since you escaped with Thomas' group from the Glade, ever since Gally...

The only reason you fell asleep was because you felt somewhat safe with Frypan keeping watch, and you were pretty much functioning on pure adrenaline after the Maze, so finally having a sort of respite drained you of all energy.

But now, you wished you hadn't fallen asleep.

"Gally?" Your voiced echoed in your dream world.

Gally simply gave you a soft smile, his eyes so full of sadness to see you in such a state.

"I miss you...so, so much." You started to cry, Gally's presence, even if it wasn't real, was enough to tear down all your walls you put up to keep you safe after losing him.

Gally stepped forward, placing a loose strand of hair behind your head. "I know..."

You smiled tearfully, his voice still sounded the same, the same gruffness but subtle gentleness he only ever shared with you.

You didn't have to say anything else for Gally to know what you wanted, what you needed desperately. He wordlessly pulled you to his chest, his grip around you tight as you sobbed, as you mourned for him.

Gally gently rocked you back and forth in his arms, whispering sweet nothings in your ear as you were wracked with emotional torment. "It's okay...it's all going to be okay..." He promised.

You pulled away to stare into his eyes, his beautiful green eyes that you never got tired of looking at, the ones that always conveyed how much love he had for you without him having to say anything. Gally's eyes fluttered shut as you started to trace his freckles with a feather light touch, trying to engrain the intricate design into your memory, but you knew you never could, no matter how many times you tried.

You felt yourself start to panic as the feeling of Gally's arms around you slowly started to fade away, his touch becoming lighter and lighter as the seconds passed. "No...I'm waking up..." Your voice wavered. "I don't want to leave you..."

Gally caressed your face, smiling sadly as you started to cry again. "You can't stay..."

You quickly buried your face in his chest once more, your already tight grip seeming to tighten more, so desperately trying to keep yourself with him.

"Y/n..."

You pulled away, reaching your hands up to cup his jaw, gently pulling his head down to place one last kiss on his lips, Gally almost immediately deepening the kiss.

Hesitantly, you pulled away, frowning deeply and hating that all this wasn't real. You wished you died with him...

"No." Gally spoke harshly, your brows furrowing in confusion at the sudden outburst. "Don't think that. Don't you ever think that, not for a second."

Your lip trembled as you whispered, "I don't think I can live without you, Gally."

"You can, and you will. You didn't make it out of the Maze and escape from W.C.K.D. just so you can give up. No...I can't have that. You need to stay alive...for your friends...for me. You can't give up now. Do you understand me?" Gally placed a brief kiss to your forehead, bringing a hand up to cup your tear stained cheek.

You bit your lip and nodded curtly, knowing that you'd never agree if you waited too long to answer. "I promise."

"Don't worry, Y/n. I know you'll find your way back to me...one day." Gally smiled.

"God, this would be so much easier if you were here..."

"Hey..." Gally said softly, delicately placing his hand over your heart, "I'm always here..."

In a flash, Gally was gone and you were back in the real world, laying in hot sand and the Sun shining brightly down on you.

You didn't wish you hadn't fallen asleep anymore, no, you wished you could've died; then, you could be with Gally. But, you made a promise. Sure, it wasn't really Gally, just Gally as you knew him. You smiled sadly, knowing that the real Gally would've told you the exact same thing. Albeit, a bit harsher, no doubt.

Either way, you were going to keep your promise. You were going to live. You were going to fight to survive. For him.

You were going to make your way back to him, without any shortcuts. You didn't know how patient you could be, you didn't even know if it was possible. But you were going to find him as he said, one day.

You made that promise to yourself.

Ugh, Spain without the S honestly. I had a bad dream last night, I was in some type of horror game or something, Gally being the one to give me instructions on what to do to survive. Turns out, Gally was a bad guy all along (in my dream). Couldn’t not counteract that thought, now could I?
