The room is partially illuminated by little white lights hanging from the black painted walls that serve the purpose of creating a nice atmosphere for getting lost inside the music. You stand right there, in the center of the dance floor, lids half-closed and head tilted back with sweat dripping down your tired body whilst the deep bass of the music fills the room.

The song is slow and insinuates itself in your mind, awakening your body as if you were a kid and the record the pied piper luring you in. Your muscles start to move to the rhythm, following each beat in a routine that is now embedded in your very core as if you had been born just to dance it.

And you were definitely no stranger to the shuffling that was Jung Hoseok valiantly attempting to make his entrance discreet (but you’re smiling anyway).

“I know,” Hoseok calls from the hallway after having shamelessly let himself in (Yoongi distributes the passcode to your shared apartment almost as if he was giving out free samples outside Taco Bell), “But help a guy out, it’s V-day and I don’t wanna lament my singlehood alone.”

You can’t help but let out a pained gasp as you climb from your car, the twisting of your lower back with just one foot on the pavement triggering a momentary stab of agony at the base of your spine. The area had been tender all week, the sudden sharpness kicking in only every now and then but immobilising you regardless, and you were completely fed up.

It was a god send that you’d managed to slot in a last minute appointment at Kim-Jung Chiropractic, and with it being a Friday afternoon you were even just thankful you’d made it in time - leaving work a little early had paid off for you to miss the hometime rush.

Leaning up and out, you finally straighten yourself with a sigh, groaning as you reach back in and over to the passenger seat to grab your handbag before shutting your door and locking it firmly. Walking into the office feels somewhat strange, unfamiliar, and you think back to the one time prior that you’d been in; before the renovation.

It wasn’t much different, still bright white, clean walls, but the new carpet was a nice touch and the armchairs had been reupholstered to a much more comfortable looking soft leather rather than the plastic they’d had before.

The pretty girl behind the desk smiles brightly when you approach and promptly asks for your name and appointment time, typing quickly in her computer before guiding you to sit for a mere two minute wait on Dr Kim’s current appointment.

based off of the premise of the movie TiMER (2009), or at least the world in that movie. I wasn’t going to write this but @xhixtape made me want to flesh out my idea. I never write angst, I hope this is enjoyable.

Hoseok wakes to a beeping, checking his phone through groggy, fuzzy eyes, before he remembers the little piece of metal in his right wrist, embedded into his skin a little over a year and a half ago. As soon as the small device turned on, implanted at the age of twenty-six, it began counting down the years, months, days, hours, seconds until midnight of the day he’d meet his soulmate.

He grins and lays back down, trying to calm himself, knowing the timer will beep again when he locks eyes with them, whoever they are. Despite his nerves and excitement, he manages to fall back asleep and dreams of some stranger, beautiful and lovely.

Hoseok sweats in his uniform, the humidity of Seoul in the summer pressing down on him as he writes out parking tickets–he’d been lucky to get simple work for his military service, but the monotony bores him, and he misses his team members more often than not. Yoongi works over in Daegu as a desk worker in a police station, and having his closest friend the farthest from him takes its toll on him.

He smiles through it, despite it, assured in his mind he’ll be reunited with all six boys, and Yoongi will finish his service at the start of the next year, and Hoseok will finish only a month later. And, another reason to smile–he’ll meet them soon, his soulmate, the one he’ll grow old with, and Hoseok could only ever be honest about his desire to find love, buying into the Timer before Bangtan had even gone on hiatus for conscription. He’d been the first of the group to get the device, and the last to meet his soulmate out of the first four that got one.

But here it is. The day he’ll meet her. Or him, or they, whoever.
