Mingi: He is the type of boyfriend who will carefully put your bonnet back on after it comes off in the middle of the night. He also changed out his pillowcases to silk pillowcases just for you. When you're getting ready for bed, he helps with getting your hair into your bonnet. He'll kiss your forehead telling you: “You're so beautiful. Don't ever forget how beautiful you are. Hell, I'll never let you forget how beautiful you are, Y/n.”

Wooyoung: It was your first time spending the night with your boyfriend Wooyoung. You stood in the bathroom clenching your leopard-printed bonnet in your hands. “What if he laughs.” you'd think. There's a quick knock at the door, and you jump clearing your throat. Wooyoung asks if everything is okay. You suck in a deep breath, slipping your bonnet on. Slowly you opened the door saying to Wooyoung: “Don't laugh.” he'd be a little confused as to why you'd say that then his eyes came to the leopard-printed bonnet. “Oh, honey.” He'd cooed. “I would never laugh at you. You look so lovely in your bonnet."

San: He would buy your bonnets for you. Usually, they would be in his favorite colors, he even got you a customized bonnet with his picture on it a little cheesy, some would think but you loved the hell out that one bonnet. He's the type of boyfriend to remind you to put on your bonnet before sleeping. When you're all whiny and too tired to put it on yourself San puts your bonnet on you with a small pout saying, “Hmm, I think I spoil you too much. You can put your bonnet on yourself, baby.” but he would always do it because he loves taking care of you.

Yunho: He'd be a little surprised seeing you wear your bonnet for the first time around him. “Hey, you never wear your bonnet around me before.” he'd say as he fixes your bonnet on your head. “I...I was just never comfortable enough til now.” You'd say. Hearing this hurts him a little, he gently cups your adorable face tilting your head so you're looking up at him. “Thank you.” He'd say. “Why are you thanking me?” You'd blink, confused at your man. He would smile giving your pouty lips a quick kiss, saying, “For sharing this part of yourself with me. I know it may not be easy for you to let me see you in your bonnet, but I will always still thank you are the most beautiful woman in the world.”

Jongho: He helps you get your box braids into your bonnet every night. Jongho always looked forward to helping you, it was his favorite part of his nighttime routine with you. “You know J, you don't always have to help me.” You'd say. Jongho would kiss the top of your head and say, “But I want to help you.” There was this warm feeling that spread over you. This differed from your past relationships where you felt ashamed to even wear your bonnet since your ex-partners would make fun of you or they just found you wearing a bonnet not sexy at all. So having your boyfriend Jongho always help you was this very intimate moment for the both of you.

Yeosang: He wears a matching bonnet with you. The pink bonnet with the blackband. Yeosang would always buy a variety of bonnets for you and him. Always matching ones, though. He had a bonnet with your picture on it that was his favorite one to wear. “God, did you really have to put my face on a bonnet, Yeosang?” You'd ask the first time you saw your face on the silky light blue bonnet he's wearing. He'd playfully grin at you before quickly giving you a kiss on the nose, “Of course I did. You're my beautiful girl.” he'd say. Your face gets all warm and you softly slap your hand against his chest and smile.

Hongjoong: “If you don't like it. I can take it off.” You'd say to Hongjoong the first time he sees you in your bonnet. His brows knit together and he pulls you down to sit on his lap. “No. I love it. I would never ask you to take off your bonnet. I'm happy you're comfortable with me now to let me see you wear one.” He'd give your thigh a light little squeeze. “You don't find me unattractive or anything, do you?” you'd ask. Hongjoong would smile at you, holding your gaze. “Why would I? Protecting your hair is important to me. I still find you attractive with your bonnet. It's sexy.”

Seonghwa: just like Mingi, Seonghwa is the type of boyfriend who puts your bonnet back on in the middle of the night, his voice low, and soft with sleep as he speaks to you while you're half asleep. “Y/n, baby lift your head some for me.” he'd say as tucks your hair back into your bonnet. You'd pout in your sleep not wanting to listen to your boyfriend. Seonghwa would carefully lift your head himself to get your bonnet fully on your head. “You sleep too wild that's why your bonnet always comes off.” he'd kiss your forehead. You mumble something in your sleepy voice into his chest, “The bonnet has a mind of its own.”

“Would you ever give me a chance to correct that mistake I made that night? I’ve spent countless hours trying to imagine a scene where I did get on the train. As I am celebrating my 19th birthday, it feels my seasons are going by so fast….”

These were the words I wrote when I was 19 and wanted nothing more than to feel your embrace around me. I never knew why we wanted to be in the snow so much, why the cold became the center of our relationship. Maybe it was because of the heat we received for being together. My skin was the problem, but we knew we could always hide in the snow. It allowed us to be mellow and cool. I took a detour on our trip to freedom and now i see that the detour was only fear. Fear has held me in cage and tied my hands. It left me helpless and so I never reached out to you.

If not for the people around me, you wouldn’t have gotten my letter. And so now I ask you; as I am drowning and being buried in what seems to be my last season: Would you ever give me a chance to correct the mistake I made that night?

“Mistake?”, Sunghoon thought out loud to himself. For the last couple years, He wanted nothing more than to hear from you. Your voice, but instead he gifted with your words coming from a piece of paper being read to him by his Neighbour.

Jake sat on the chair next to Sunghoon’s desk; he watched the boy pace back and forth. The sleeves of his white sweater rolled up to his elbows, Jake folded the paper and put it back in the envelope.

“So, she’s the one that you use to get drunk and mumble about?”, He asked. The question brought Sunghoon to a halt. “Yes”, he replied.

All his thoughts made sense he realized what he wanted to say to you. “What mistake is she talking about?”, Jake asked. The only thing wrong with his question was that there was no mistake. Sunghoon sighed; turning to face him.

“Y/n and I had a plan. We were bestfriends-”, he paused; clearing his throat, “that eventually fell in love. And we were happy together but others around us didn’t approve-”

“Because she was black”, Jake finished his sentence for him. Sunghoon nodded in agreement. Jake knew that there was a beauty standard and discrimination in Korea. Sunghoon continued, “So we made a plan to run away, We’d take the midnight train to next city”.

In the past, if he ever had to tell this story; Sunghoon would break. “But she wouldn’t get on the train. She wasn’t ready to leave everything behind but I still left without her.” The night he got on that train he promised himself that he would build a beautiful before he went back for her.

That is why is continuously wrote letters, He needed to have something to show her. A moment of realization dawned on Jake as he came to understand the mistake. “So the mistak-”, he started.

“There was no mistake. I’m glad she stayed, I couldn’t put her through the same struggle I went through when I got here”, He stated. Sunghoon from 5 years ago would’ve never said such a thing but he has grown.

“She doesn’t deserve that. I built a stable enough life for us to share here. But I’m not sure It’s perfect for her.” Jake hummed as took in everything. He’d known sunghoon since he got here and they’ve been close.

They’ve laughed and shared their sorrows, Sunghoon had always been the one to give the advice but now it’s his turn. Jake stood up, facing him.

“If you keep waiting for perfect, You’ll never have her”, Jake said, “That’s my best advice”. There was nothing but the sound of the air conditioning as the boys looked at each other. “I don’t know if this is bad timing but Jay and Jungwon are going out tonight”, Jake shoved his hands in the pockets of black jeans, “Would you like to come?”

Sunghoon rubbed his forehead, “Not tonight”. With that Jake left and Sunghoon once again sat at his desk alone. He sat there for about an hour before opening the desk and pulling a sheet of paper. Twirling his black pen in his finger; he thought about her last question:

Would you give me a chance to correct the mistake I made that night?

And I'm IN LOVE 😭 the author really knows how to capture a feeling and it's an amazing one. I think my favorite thing about the fic is the letters. Because you can clearly see their feelings between each other through their words. So sweet and tender. For me their letters are like a comforting hug almost. 🥹 So thank you author for writing such an amazing story! 💓💓💓

Your choice was not a mistake. If you said that years ago, I would’ve agreed but now I know your detour was just the universe giving the opportunity build something beautiful for us. It began with us at the train station but now, I still question wether it’s perfect. Divine intervention has given me time but I’m afraid I mayb have not fulfilled everything needed to be done.

My y/n, I would not let you change what you did because it made me realize so much. How cold winter can be but I will still stand outside because it is your embrace. The letter was sent by Sunghoon almost two weeks ago and there was no response from y/n. Was he too soon? Sunghoon walked down the sidewalk, the sound of snow crunching beneath his feet was loud.

He wore a black sweater with a matching scarf and black jeans. He hands covered with mittens and were stuffed in his pockets. Screams could be heard in a distance as children played in the snow. “Why hasn’t she replied?”, he muttered under his breath.

Sunghoon had spent his off day running errands before eating lunch with Jungwon. There was no surprise when Jungwon brought up the letters. He should’ve known better than including Jake. But he felt like he needed an outside opinion.

His thoughts continued to consume his mind as he got closer to his apartment building. Sunghoon’s eyes were glued to ground, olbly shifting upwards when a car sped past him. The wind brushing across his face and his hair flying in his face.

He eyes followed the car until it disappeared, only for a figure to catch his attention. As he got closer he could see a more detailed view of the figure. A cream colored jacket and jeans, he squinted trying to make out more.

The figure looked around as if they were looking from something. Sunghoon just kept walking, he got closer by the second. Long black hair, being closer now he could tell it was faux locs. A warm chocolate skin tone. “Just like y/n”, he thought to himself. Sunghoon never notice but he was walking faster.

The figure turned to face his direction as soon he was close enough to see her. The image of her face that night flashed in his mind, her perfect two toned lips and tear eyes now replaced with expressionless eyes.

Her eyes bored into him as the cold wrapped it’s arms around them both. They both stood there, a few steps apart. No words were spoken with the mouth but emotions conveyed with the eyes. Her heart raced as she took him in, he was much taller and had a more mature look to him.

The return address ont he envelope came in helpful when you made the last night decision to come here. Without telling him.

You were scared but his words became stamped onto your heart. The world around you both kept moving but your hearts slowed and beat in sync for that moment.

“Love”, he whispered; just enough for her to hear. “Y/n”. His voice cracked as he took her beauty which he had long to see for the last years.

“It’s winter”, her eyes brimmed with tears, “And We’re here, Together”.
