y/n's perspective
âSheâs awake! Get the doctor!â I heard and my vision was doubled while my head was throbbing. Where was I? The last thing I remember wasâŠ
âThen why donât you run?â
Did he actually run? Was he finally free like he wanted? How does a hybrid escape without pretending to be human? Oh yeah⊠the black market.Â
If he did... I hope it was successful and not all for nothing.
ây/n? How are you feeling?â I heard and I looked to my side. âJeno⊠howâs school been?â I offered him a smile and didnât have to see his face to know he was concerned for me. âGood, I've been focusing on this internship and well I try my best to not lose sleep,â he said and I smiled. âHaechan should learn from you,â I said and I heard his soft laughter.Â
âHow⊠are they?â I asked and he sighed. âLetâs get you checked out first. Iâll let Taeyong-hyung explain,â he said and I knew it was probably bad.Â
âY/n the doctor is gonna come in and do some tests, youâll be given pain medication and you currently have stitches so this will scar. Weâll set up future appointmentsâ I heard as I saw Johnny enter the room.Â
I wonder if they're okay.Â

seonghwaâs perspective
Last week we were finally let out. That would mean she's dead or alive to have them do action. I don't know what they did to San or Hongjoong yet. But I was in observation to see if I should be considered for a breeding farm.Â
I heard them talk⊠I had no chance of adoption. My only option was a hybrid farm where their only purpose is to reproduce. It also gave me little hope that she was alive.Â
I know sheâs scared of me⊠but she wouldâve tried to convince them otherwise. I also did hear that Yeosang and Wooyoung were code greens ready for adoption but Wooyoung has been in the medical wing.Â
âIf I could, those tigers would be shipped off. Hongjoong is excessively violent, he killed her. What am I supposed to tell San? Or Wooyoung? Those hybrids are far too dependent on her. If they knew, San would become a bigger threat to himself and Wooyoung would join himâ I heard. She was deadâŠ?
I may have not had a lot of hope but a part of me hoped she was alive. Oh, Hongjoong⊠we caused a mess.
âSeonghwa, you have a checkâ I heard as they opened my curtain. I saw the employee now opening the glass door. âIâm sorry,â I said⊠and he looked at me confused.Â
âIf⊠if I didnât help her sheâd still be alive. Even then I couldâve stoppedâ" "Seonghwa none of this is your fault, I'm sorry your future isnât looking too bright,â he said and I felt the tears run down my face.Â
âMy future was never meant to brightâ

yeosang's perspective
She was alive. I knew she had to be⊠there's no way she'd die.Â
I was in isolation. My records unfortunately were publicly known when I was in here. The accident at a popular apartment complex where politicians, CEOs, and even idols lived took pictures of what happened. They warned me⊠she called in asking if I was gonna be put up for adoption. If⊠she was dead. I would get a horrible punishment for defying her⊠maybe even move the country?Â
âYeosang, are you ready for some air?â I heard one of the employees. I remember him being called⊠Jaemin? He was a friend of hers. âAny news?â I asked and he sighed.Â
âDonât worry, sheâll be fineâ he said and I nodded. âDo you believe that?â I asked and it caught him off guard. He was supposed to make me feel better. I know heâs not allowed to say anythingâŠ
âLook⊠sheâs the strongest person I know. The last time I saw her, Johnny promised to make sure she was alright and my friend worked with him. Sheâs in a stable conditionâ
liar. He was lyingâŠÂ
âYou donât believe me do you?â he asked and I shook my head.Â
âSheâs⊠not in stable condition. In fact, they're trying their best to monitor her at all timesââ âWhatâs wrong with her?â I asked and he sighed. We started walking outside as he looked to think about what heâd say.Â
âHongjoong when he clawed her jaw hit a vein connected to her heart. The week before when Kun was there, she flatlined but I know sheâs stable now we just need her to wake up. If not she might be in a coma for longer than weâd hopeâ he explained and I could only feel hatred for those tigers and myself⊠I pushed her, and I misinterpreted her feelings. She was scared of them⊠and even us.Â
âIs there hope?â I asked and his smile said everything. It was forced and I could see the glassy look in his eyes. âThere's always hopeâÂ
Liar.Â

wooyoungâs perspective
âWooyoung you need to eat, we donât want to put you up with the purple code hybrids. Sheâs not gonna be happy whenââ âHow can she feel anything? Sheâs not here⊠sheâs dead isn't she?â I cut him off. The doctor sighed and shook his head.Â
âNo, she's not dead,â he said and I didnât believe him.Â
âDo it for her⊠donât you think sheâll be distraught to see you in a worse state than before? When she saw you she said she was heartbroken. To know that you were a depressed hybrid⊠that those who promised her to take care of you werenâtâ" "Sheâs not here!â I yelled.Â
âLet me mourn her⊠she isnât coming back,â I said and I was fully convinced. She wouldâve been here already, sheâs gone. I shouldâve been there.
âWooyoung you need to take care of yourself, your weight is dropping and youâll start to get sick..â I turned him out. I didnât feel hungry⊠not when I used to live a fantasy almost two weeks ago now. I was hopeful at firstâŠ
but then she never came back.Â

sanâs perspective
The world⊠stopped.Â
My world stopped⊠code purple. For hybrids who are dangerous to themselves, mainly ones who experience such stress, or depression they harm themselves.Â
Would it be so bad to be with her again? Constrained and isolated⊠How was Wooyoung doing? Was he like me?Â
I missed the feeling of that collar on my neck, the feeling of her warmth, I miss her. Where is she? How long has it been since I've been here?
Surely only a few hours⊠I wonder when sheâll be here. Maybe in a few hours?Â
âSan, how are you feeling?â I heard and I finally saw someone after they put me here. âIâm⊠tired,â I said, I was tired, my mind felt like I was spinning and I felt sick.Â
âDo you remember what I told you last time?â he asked me. âWhat?â I asked and he sighed. âSan, I've been here three times a day for two weeks now,â he said and I was confused. I laughed, âIt's only been a few hoursâŠâ I said and he shook his head.Â
âIâll remind you later, today we thought it would be good to take you outsideâ he said and I shook my head. âSan, do you remember when you arrived here after the fight? You lost any sense of time and thought you lived the same day over and over again. You improved so much afterwards⊠she would want you to improve and get adopted againâ he said and I shook my head.Â
âI am adopted, sheâs my mateâ I said and he sighed almost like he was tired.Â
âSan, weâve been having the same conversation for the past two weeks, almost three times a dayâÂ

hongjoongâs perspective
My hands felt dirty⊠They didnât let me go to the cells anymore.Â
I need to get rid of her blood. I didn't mean to kill her. I⊠where was Seonghwa? Was he okay? Did he get adopted already? Maybe sheâs alive and she took them⊠but not me.
I donât deserve it⊠besides living with humans? I hate them⊠I hate her⊠but I want to apologize. I hope sheâs okay. I want her to be okay. But is she? Why would they send me away if that's the case, they were preparing to send me off.Â
I was slowly accepting what I was destined for⊠I was gonna die. Born into a circus, I was always gonna die.Â
âYouâre scheduled to leave in three daysâ I heard. It was the main doctor⊠âDr. Doyoung will take you in to check your wounds,â he said and I was unchained from the ground to be led to the medical wing.Â
He knocked on the door when it revealed another employee⊠and Wooyoung? He looked⊠starved. His eyes looked lifeless and dark circles prominent.Â
He looked up at me to not even react. They led him away, speaking to him in a cheerful voice as if wanting to cheer him up. âYou ruined the lives of four hybrids,â the behaviorist said to me.Â
âWhat's wrong with him?â I asked and he scoffed.Â
âThe healthiest right now is probably Seonghwa and Yeosang. Yeosang though is still clinging to her being alive, while Wooyoung has refused to be cooperative with this severe depressive episode, even San has lost all sense of time and is worse. All humans aren't evil, but you let that control you and even ruined your own chance to actually liveâ he said as I went inside the room to see the doctor.Â
I⊠I'm sorryâŠ

y/nâs perspective
âTwo weeks?â I asked and they nodded. âJohnny and Jeno tried their best to take care of you⊠but you were asleep for two weeks and they thought for a minute your body was in shock, especially after your flatline last week.Â
âI⊠what?â I was confused with everything. Two weeks I was out⊠What happened to them? âYouâre okay physically, the tests they've done should help and it looks like they helped you gain some strength to walk despite being comatose for two weeksâ he explained and I nodded.Â
âCurious about anything?â Taeyong asked and I wanted to ask but I was scared. âIâm curious. Curious as to why you were suddenly scared of your hybrids. Kun told me that your hybrids said you started to be detached and started avoiding them and it was clarified that you were scaredâ he said and I nodded.Â
âWhen I did the interviews⊠Hongjoong mentioned that hybrids do anything to survive even if they pretend to like their ownersâ I said and he laughed at me. âYouâve clearly forgotten how those three looked at you. Wooyoung used toâ actually has been obsessed with you for years, Yeosang is the most overprotective hybrid i've ever seen and San? He loves you⊠he was your first hybrid and he⊠heâs a code purple right nowâ he said and i stopped. I felt frozenâŠÂ
âA⊠a code purple?â I said hoping I heard wrong and he nodded.
âHeâs lost track of time⊠he thinks it's been hours. His mind is scattered in events, sometimes heâll think heâs there because he attacked you and become depressed, or heâll think the attack was minutes before and scream that heâll kill that tiger. The worst of it is, right now⊠heâs waiting for you to show up in front of him. He thinks it's been hours and youâll recover soon, for him it hasn't been two weeksâ' he explained and he wiped my cheek.
âHe⊠heâs no, you're messing with me. San⊠I need to see him!â I declared and he grabbed my elbow. âYou shouldn't be so rash. No one knows youâve recovered⊠Kun thinks you're as good as dead. He was there when you flatlined and thought there's no hopeâ he said and everything was overwhelming.
âI need to see him,â I pleaded and he smiled. âAnd we will, just let me go to the station first. Weâll go later today, I want to take you back homeâ" "Noâ I refused and he sighed.
âThe blood is clean⊠Wonyoung had people clean your apartmentâ" "It wonât feel right with them not thereâ I argued and he sighed.Â
âGive me a few hours then, I'll call Yuta and Shotaro, they'll take care of you,â he said and I sighed. âIâm a grown woman I donât need to be taken care ofâ I argued and he nodded.Â
âOkay⊠but theyâll meet with you to make sure you're okay, '' he said and I nodded. âI can walkââ âI need time alone⊠I know where they workâ I said and he nodded. âBe careful, you justââ âTaeyong pleaseâ I pleaded and he nodded as he left.Â
I couldn't stop the tears flowing down. I was an idiot⊠I doubted them and I failed Hongjoong⊠I need to talk to himâ
âWhy are you crying again?â I heard as I noticed a man in front of me. It was the man that helped me before. âIt's been a long dayâ I answered and he nodded.
âIâm sorry to hear that, but please donât cry, surely whatever it is it can be fixed?â he said with a cheerful smile. âHave you ever owned a hybrid?â I asked and his eyes widened. âOnly one,â he said and I nodded. âHow do you know their feelings are genuine and they actually love you?â I asked and he chuckled.Â
âThat's an interesting question⊠Well, hybrids are known for faking they care but that's a rare few. If you treat them with love and care I can assure you they will be the sameâ he said and I nod.Â
âWhat if they fake it though, even if you love them to the best of your ability?â I asked and he hummed. âWell, a hybrid can fake words, but the things they do have meaning. Whereâ I mean hybrids are like animals by the end of the day. They have animal habits they follow, like uhm bunnies circle around their owners, fox hybrids are dependent on owners and usually bond to one person for the rest of their lifeâ" "What about canines and panthers?â I asked and he chuckled.Â
âThat's a weird pair?â he laughed and I smiled.Â
âWell, panther hybrids only really expose themselves to their owners when they fully trust them so sleeping is a big one. Uhm⊠panthers are actually known to cook or feed their mates as an act of love? ââ San often would feed me off his own plate and make me eat more⊠and he would always say how he preferred sleeping in my room.
He was showing he trusted meâŠÂ
ââ Dog hybrids however, are known to scent their mates and groom them? So dog hybrids will often fix their owners hair or males would often scent their owner to tell others to back offâ he explained and suddenly Yeosang made much more sense to me.Â
âI can tell you're a good hybrid owner⊠any hybrid would be lucky for someone to care about them like you doâ he said and I smiled.Â
âThank youâŠ?â I didn't know his name. âOh? Uhm my name! My name is⊠Yunhoâ he said and I smiled. âThank you, Yunho! My name is y/nâ I said and he smiled.Â
âIt was my pleasure, ah! I think you dropped this?âÂ

Yuta and Shotaro were spamming my phone.Â
I was now in front of the infamous building⊠The Seoul Hybrid Rehabilitation Center.Â
I entered and I was immediately greeted by a shocked Haechan. I smiled at the boy who couldnât even produce a sentence. âYOU'RE OKAY!â he yelled and I laughed as he hugged me tight. âWe were convinced you werenât gonna wake upâ he muttered and I ruffled his hair. âWhere's Kun?â I asked and he sighed. âKun cares about you a lot⊠so does Doyoung but Kun sees you like his little sisterââ
âHaechan, what's going on with him?â I asked and he sighed
âHeâs planning on sending Wooyoung and San to Jejuâs Rehabilitation Center, as for Yeosang⊠There's a threat of legal action with his previous owner, Seonghwa is going to be moved to a breeding farm, and Hongjoong is being sent out of Korea '' he explained and I was speechless.Â
âW-What?â I asked and he nodded. âKun right now is out but heâll be back soonââ âTake me to San,â I said and he shook his head. âOnly Kun and Doyoung have the key to get in there⊠and you're not supposed to be allowed without them knowing,â he said and I smiled.Â
âPlease, let me see one of them?â I asked and he nodded. âI can take you to Yeosang,â he said and I nodded. He talks to have someone come get me and lead me to Yeosang.
ây/n?â I heard and saw Renjun. I smiled softly and offered a hug. âI'm so glad you're okay! When did you get dischargedâ he asked and I sighed. âMaybe two hours ago?â I said and he scoffed. âYou should be restingââ âI need to see if they're okayâ I cut him off and he nodded.Â
He leads me around the green code hybrids seeking adoption until we go towards the ones who have not been cleared for adoption.Â
âHeâs missed you a lot,â he said and I smiled. He opened the curtain and I saw he was asleep. âJaemin has been trying his best to cheer up him and Wooyoung but it's been hard for them,â he said and I nodded. âIâm only doing this cause I know he wonât hurt you and he is still your hybrid,â he said as he opened the kennel and waited for me to enter.Â
I nod and go in to kneel close to his bed. I pet his ears softly as he whined and opened his eyes slightly. âHello, sleeping beauty,â I said and his ears flattened on his head.Â
âAre you real?â he asks as he grabs my hand, tightening it as if I'd disappear. âIâm real, Yeosang,â I said and he sat up looking at me for what felt like a few minutes before he started crying.Â
âPlease, be real! IâŠÂ I miss youâ he said as he hugged me tightly. I rubbed it back as he sobbed. âIâm here, I promise,â I said and he pulled away to look at me. I wanted to cry too⊠so many times I got into my head that he faked everything to hide away from his owner when I shouldâve known better.Â
His hand cupped my jaw to where my bandages lay. âDoes it hurt?â he asked and I smiled. âIâll heal,â I said and he nodded.Â
âIâm sorry for making you adopt themââ âIt's not your fault⊠I got in my own head. Hongjoong is rough around the edgesââ âYou shouldnât defend himâ he said angrily and I smiled.Â
âYeosangâŠ. He was wronged. I shouldâve voiced my thoughts sooner, but he deserves a second chance. What you suggested was sweet⊠heâs lived tormented by humans so he deserves to feel loved even if he doesn't know how to accept itâ I said and his eyes widened. He nodsâŠ
âYouâre too good to be real. I still donât believe you're actually here⊠maybe you're a true angel visiting me in my dreams'' he said and I chuckled. âI donât have wings or a halo,â I said and he chuckled.Â
âDoesnât mean you aren't an angel to meâ he said and I smiled.Â
ây/n?â I heard and I looked behind me to see Doyoung. âDid Haechan tell you?â I asked and he nodded. âI-Iâm, why didnât they tell us you were awake?!â he asked and I smiled while looking at Yeosang. âWell, I did wake up two hours ago,â I said and Yeosang laughed. âYou should be resting,â he said and I smiled.Â
âI know⊠Doyoung. Can I see San?â I asked and he sighed. âI donât have the key⊠Kun has taken charge of seeing Hongjoong and San, I only see them to check up on themâ he said and I nodded.
âAnd⊠Wooyoung?â I asked and he sighed almost nervously.
âHeâs⊠he needs to see youâ

Yeosang was gonna be checked one last time by Doyoung while he led me in front of Wooyoungâs kennel. âBe careful with him⊠heâs been worse than I've ever seen himâ he said and Yeosang didnât want to let go of my hand.Â
âIâll be here when you're out, I promise,â I said and he didnât look convinced. âWhen have I ever lied to you? Or broken a promise?â I asked and he nodded.Â
They leave me alone with Wooyoungâs key. I knock before opening the door⊠It's to tell the hybrid I'm going in. I open it and see that heâs already staring at the door. His eyes widened.Â
ây/n?â he said and I noticed how hoarse his voice was. How skinny he was⊠how tired he looked. âHello, Woo,â I said, trying my best to offer a happy smile as I felt my vision blur. âYou're⊠alive?â he said, confused and not moving.Â
âMissed me?â I said and I sat down on the floor to sit at eye level with him. âIâŠâ he was speechless. I smiled as I hugged him⊠his tears and sobs broke my heart. The way he tightened his grip on my body and let out cries was the only thing I could focus on.Â
He struggled with words as he sobbed.Â
âI... I lost- any hope that you were alive!â he let out and I felt a serious ache in my heart. âIâm sorry,â I said and he shook his head as he let go and ghosted his hand on my jaw. âIt's not your fault,â he said and I knew what he suggested.Â
âIt's not his fault either⊠I shouldâve talked about what I was feeling "I said and he said nothing but hugged me. We sat there on the floor with him hugging me in silence.
âWooyoung '' I heard as I saw Yeosang in his regular clothes and his collar. âYeosang?â he said as he lifted his head without letting me go to see his friend. âThe doctor wants to see you so he can discharge you,â he said and he tightened his grip on me.
âIâll still be here⊠you get to be in comfortable clothes and your collar again,â I said and he nodded letting go but did move to leave.
âSheâll still be here,â Yeosang said and Wooyoung nodded. âCan⊠Can we get food from that street food market?â he asked and I smiled. âAnything you want,â I said and he nodded. He leaves but not without looking at me one last time and giving me a slight smile.
ProgressâŠ
âAre you gonna take in those tigers again?â Yeosang asked and I sighed. âI hate how I⊠I want to give them a second chance. A better chance without me being scared of them⊠I took them in because they wanted a better life and I didnât even try like I did with you, Wooyoung, and Sanâ I explain and nod.Â
âI donât trust themâ he said and I smiled. âAnd you have every right to,â I said.Â
ây/n?â I heard and I saw Jaemin who looked at me with the biggest smile. âHow are you doing?â I said and he chuckled. âYou see Yeosang, sheâs okay,â he said and Yeosang nodded. âJaemin? Can you take me to Seonghwa?â I asked and he sighed. âThe tigers are gonna be transferredââ âKun canât do that, I'm still their owner,â I said and he chuckled.Â
âYou're the same as ever. Let me take you there then, I'd rather not be sued and in debt even more than I amâ he said and I chuckled.
âYeosang, stay here for Wooyoung,â I said and he shook his head getting ready to argueâ âHe needs someone here, and Iâll be back,â I said and he nodded reluctantly.Â
I followed Jaemin when I noticed he was also a code green hybrid. âSeonghwa, you have a visitor,â Jaemin said as he opened the curtain first.Â
He looked at me shocked.Â
âYou're⊠Iâm sorry! I shouldâve stopped Hongjoong, please I-Iâm soââ âSeonghwa it isn't your fault '' I said while giving him a smile and he looked at me with wide eyes.Â
âIâm sorry for not offering you what I did to my hybrids' ' I said and he looked confused. âYou deserve a second chance⊠so does Hongjoong. Let me make it up to youâ I said and he shook his head.Â
âI⊠I should be asking that of you!â he said desperately and I smiled.Â
âLet's make it up to each other then!â I said and he was frozen⊠âI⊠why do you still want me?â he asked and I shrugged. âYouâre a sweet hybrid⊠a farm doesnât suit you at all,â I said and I could see tears forming in his eyes.
âI⊠I really am sorry I wasn'tââ âIt's not your fault, you⊠were the sweetest. You tried so hard to earn a place with me and I know you deserve it. So I'm sorry for letting Hongjoongâs words get into my head, I really do think you deserve better Seonghwa '' I said and he was silent.Â
âDo you accept me?â I asked and he smiled softly.Â
âIf youâll take meâÂ

How cute they aređ„čđ„č and the nameđ I bet it's Wonwoo idea to name their baby Wonjaeđ«ą
Beginnings | A nothing new drabble
Pairing: chaebol!husband!Wonwoo x chaebol!fem!reader
A/N: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH itâs Jaeâs birth scene!!!!! So so excited for this one!!!!! I love dad wonwoo and i hope u do too!!!!
Wonwoo feels him phone vibrating against his suit pocket but he canât pick it up without making it obvious.
Heâs currently in a meeting with the management team of a company that is planning a product launch with his familyâs company. Theyâre very aggressive and strict and the CEO whoâs currently speaking would definitely make a fool out of Wonwoo if he were to pick up his phone.
His phone vibrates again and Wonwoo cant help but wonder if itâs you.
Out of the corner of his eye, Wonwoo sees his assistant, Jeff motion to his phone indicating he needs to answer the call. Wonwoo lightly shakes his head. Before Wonwoo can react, Jeff quietly enters the room and comically drops to the floor and crawls to Wonwooâs seat. Wonwoo is panicking. Heâs got his eye on the CEO and Jeff at the same time.
âItâs your wife, Won-â
âExcuse me, Jeon Wonwoo. Is there something so important that this meeting is being disturbed by one of your employees?â the CEO bellows before Wonwoo can even process what Jeff has said.
âIâm sorry sir, but I have an emergency phone call I need to take.â
Wonwoo stands and bows and makes to talk out the door when the CEO tells him to stop.
âWhatâs more important than this meeting Mr. Jeon. Surely you can share with the rest of us.â
Wonwoo grits his teeth and flits his eyes over to his dad who says nothing.
Of course he wonât help me out.
âIâm not sure sir thatâs why I need to answer this call.â
The CEO opens his mouth to continue this stupid argument when Jeff butts in.
âMr. Jeonâs wife is in labor and he needs to go to the hospital now.â
Wonwooâs eyes widen as he turns towards Jeff suddenly not caring about who else is in the room.
Wonwooâs dad stands up and stops Wonwoo.
The calls had been from you. You needed him and for 20 minutes he hadnât been able to answer your calls.
âDad, I canât. I canât miss the birth of my child.â
A million thoughts raced through his head as he picked up his pace to head to the door.
âJeon Wonwoo. If you walk out that door, you can consider this deal over.â
Everyoneâs eyes widen. The Jeonsâ entire team had been slaving away for months trying to please this CEO and he was threatening to take it all away because Wonwoo needed to leave?
Wonwoo looked the CEO in the eyes.
âThen consider it over. I donât think our company should be investing our time and efforts into another company with a CEO whoâs quick to make ultimatums over family.â
He pushes his dad over and storms out, dragging Jeff by the arm as they run to the car.
Wonwoo frantically pulls out his phone and calls you immediately.
âWonwoo?â
âY/N, Iâm so so so sorry, I was in a meeting and the CEO wouldnât let me answer my phone. Are you okay? Iâm on my way right now.â
âWonwoo please, please come now I need you here, I canât do this without you.â
âIâm on my way I promise.â
Jeff steps on the gas and Wonwoo sees that theyâre a 30 minute drive away from the hospital.
âIâm sorry, I wonât be there for another 30 minutes.â
He hears you groan and dry heave.
âY/N, Iâll stay on the phone with you. Are your parents on the way?â
You take a deep breath before answering.
âNo, I donât want them here yet. Iâm with Mrs. Wei. Wonwoo, I just want you.â
-
An agonizing 30 minutes passes before they finally reach the hospital. Wonwoo leaps out of the car, thanks Jeff and runs into the lobby. Heâs directed to the private suites of the labor wing and runs down the hallways trying to find your room. He finally enters, completely out of breath to you laying on the bed with Mrs. Wei, your housekeeper, holding your hand. Mrs. Wei stands and comes up to him telling him sheâll run back to the house to get some extra things you left behind as well as call your parents if his dad hasnât done that already. He gives her a brief hug before coming up to you.
Your eyes are full of tears and youâre sweating like you just ran a marathon. Wonwoo bends down and rests his forehead against yours, closing his eyes.
âIâm sorryâ he whispers.
He lifts his head up to brush your hair away from your face, pressing a kiss on your forehead. You grab his left hand and start crying. Wonwoo takes your face in his hands, trying to soothe you.
âWonwoo Iâm so scared, Iâm so scared, please please help me.â Youâre full on sobbing now as you grasp his suit jacket, your fears out in the open.
âI thought I had another 2 weeks but heâs arriving early. Wonwoo I donât feel ready.â
Wonwoo takes you into his arms, engulfing you in a hug as you cling to him.
âI know, I know. I wish I could do more to help you but Iâll be here with you every second. Iâll be holding your hand and you can squeeze it as much as you like. Y/N, you got this. Youâve made it this far. Youâve given our son life. You carried him in here for 9 months and heâs ready to meet you. Iâve never met a woman as strong as you. You will get through this and I will be with you.â
Youâve calmed down, Wonwooâs soft voice and reassuring words comforting you. Heâs holding your face, his thumbs caressing your cheeks as you loosen the grip on his collar. He bends down to give you a brief kiss on the lips and you feel your heart flutter as you kiss him back.
He touches your necklace and smiles.
âAt least now we can fill this empty space with his gemstone.â
Your peaceful moment with your husband is interrupted by the onset of nurses returning with the doctor.
The doctor checks how dilated you are and tells you itâs time to start pushing. Wonwoo takes his hand in yours as you begin, the prospect of meeting your son filling both of your hearts.
-
Youâre in a daze. Your son is place don top of your chest as his umbilical cord is cut. You canât believe it. There are no words to describe the feeling of having the child youâve carried for so long, here with you on earth. Heâs crying and you touch him for the first time, immediately bursting into tears. You look up at Wonwoo whoâs already looking at you.
There are quiet tears falling from his eyes as he takes you in. He canât believe what heâs just witnessed. You may have been actively giving birth to your son for 2 hours straight but you look ethereal. He has always thought you were pretty but now? You were beyond beautiful. You were more than just his wife. You were the mother of his child and he canât think straight as his eyes move to his son whoâs real.
The nurses take your baby away to quickly clean and weigh him and you turn to watch him go. Wonwoo places a hand on your chest and you turn back towards him as he leans down to kiss you on the lips again, this time with more passion. The nurses return with your son all swaddled up and place him in your arms. Wonwoo leans over so he can look at the babyâs face. Youâre crying and he cries again and his heart canât take it. He buries his head in your neck and cries as you brush your fingers at the bottom of his hair.
-
Wonwoo is laying down next to you with his head on your shoulder when a nurse asks if he wants to hold your son. His eyes widen and he quickly says yes. He sits up and is asked to unbutton his shirt so he can have skin to skin contact. The nurse carefully takes the baby from your arms and lays him into Wonwooâs. Wonwooâs heart is beating fast as he fully comprehends that heâs holding his first child. His head falls back as he starts crying again. This precious tiny human is half him, half you. This is family and heâs afraid that his best isnât good enough. He vows to do everything he can to take care of the two of you. Hell, heâs ready to sacrifice his whole stupid chaebol inheritance and lifestyle for this very moment. You lay your head on his shoulder and rest your left hand on your babyâs back, your wedding rings gleaming in the soft light.
-
âDo you have a name for him yet?â the nurse quietly asks the two of you.
âWon-Jaeâ Wonwoo replies, softly smiling at the baby whoâs now awake and quietly looking up at him with big boba eyes.
-
The nurses move Won-Jae, Jae for short, to his little bed and Wonwoo watches as the nurse helps you get into the shower. Mrs. Wei returns with additional supplies for you as well as a beautiful home cooked meal so the two of you can eat. Wonwoo canât believe it as he watches Mrs. Wei unpack dish after dish. He graciously thanks her as she makes her way back home. Wonwoo sees his phone on the sofa and walks over to it and scrolls past the 500 messages from Jeff, his dad, his mom, and everyone else who doesnât matter to the camera app that was recently used. He opens his photos and sees a handful of pictures, taken by the nurse he assumes, of your very first moments as a family of three. He lived those moments but having them memorialized into pictures has his heart bursting at the seams.
-
Youâre asleep, exhausted from the labor. Wonwoo is sitting in a chair next to your bed, Jae in his arms. Heâs crying yet again, with no witnesses except Jae and the moon.
Even though they want to have a baby just to comply with their parent's request, I'm glad that they have each other. Especially Wonwoo who defends his wife when the invasive question is asked of his wifeđ„°
protector | jeon wonwoo | a nothing new drabble
Thereâs a full moon tonight. Wonwoo is driving the two of you to a charity formal his parents are holding for the company. As a newlywed couple, you both need to show face for business purposes.
Because of this, you headed to work earlier and are now tired beyond belief. When you got home, you got ready putting on a dark purple gown and leaving your hair down. You had missed the way Wonwoo eyed you when you came running downstairs. Now that youâre sexually active, Wonwoo finds it difficult to keep himself in line on a regular day, what more when youâre in a beautiful gown?
The charity is a full hourâs drive away and as Wonwoo drives, you fall into a deep sleep. Wonwoo turns to look at you more than once, making sure you arenât smudging your makeup knowing youâd panic if you had to redo anything on your face.
Tonight, Wonwoos head is full of thoughts. Youâve recently started staying the night in Wonwooâs room after sex and waking up next to you is messing with him. Sometimes heâll wake up with you tucked into him, other times youâll be all the way on the other side. This morning, he had woken up spooning you and unfortunately for him, you were awake. The silence was so awkward as he pulled away from you and sat up. You both seemed to have no problem when it came to having sex in the dark but once the sun came up, all forms of intimacy were just completely off the table. You were married so why were you making things more difficult for each other? He just wishes he had more time to get to know you before getting married instead of the other way around. He doesnât even feel like youâre on the level of friendship.
Wonwoo turns to look at you again. Youâre still asleep.
-
You hate these kinds of events. For starters, youâre not too fond of Wonwooâs parents. His mom always brings up having a baby every single time she sees you and youâre 100% certain sheâs going to mention it when you greet her.
âHi mom, hi dad,â Wonwoo greets his mom with a hug, his dad a handshake. You bow in greeting, trying to ignore the way Wonwooâs mom is looking at your stomach.
âMy dear, you know how much we would like a grandchild. Are the two of you even trying?â
You blink, processing what sheâs just said to your face.
âMom, are you serious? First off, you can direct the question at both of us not just y/n. Please quit it with the baby questions. I mean it.â Wonwoo reprimands his mom, placing a hand on your shoulder.
âPeople will talk if you donât have a child by-,â
âYou say this every single time you see us. The baby will come when it comes. Now if youâll excuse us.â
Wonwoo bows, you follow, and he takes your hand to direct you away from the tantalizing eyes of his parents.
You end up in front of the drinks, watching as Wonwoo grabs a glass of red wine from the tray and pours a good amount of it down his throat. You touch his arm and reminding him that he drove.
Wonwoo surprises you by dragging you closer to his body by your waist, leaning down to rest his forehead on your shoulder.
âI already donât want to be here.â
You play with the hair on the back of his neck.
âI know, but at least we have each other. Would suck if I had to endure your momâs questions all night.â
You pause.
âSorry,â you say quickly apologizing for borderline insulting his mom.
He squeezes your waist before standing to full height.
âIâm sorry about them. I wish theyâd stop asking.â
Youâre interrupted this time by your own parents. Wonwoo bows first, shaking your parentsâ hands. You bow next and give them both a super brief unaffectionate hug. Youâre not exactly close to your parents. Theyâve been generally unsupportive and not very emotionally invested parents- training you for the chaebol lifestyle. Your mother pulls you away excusing the both of you and leaving Wonwoo alone with your dad.
Wonwoo keeps an eye on you while conversing with your dad, watching as your mom intently talks to you. He sees your face change, the way it contorts into a frown. Suddenly you swiftly turn run away. Wonwoo immediately puts his drinks down and excuses himself from your dad, running to catch up with you.
He sees you head outside, worry plaguing his mind.
You place your hand on the wall for support as you tremble all over. You feel yourself being turned around, your head meeting a firm chest. You know who it is. Youâve always felt safe with this person.
You feel yourself fall apart right in your husbandâs arms. Your whole body crumples and you let it because your heart knows thereâs someone to not just catch you, but hold you. Youâre clutching onto Wonwooâs jacket as you sink to the floor with your head bowed as you start uncontrollably sobbing. He doesnât let you hit the ground. Your head meets his chest and he just holds you as you continue to cry into his shoulder.
The sound of the charity event starting, makes you look up from Wonwooâs shoulder as you realize you need to be back inside. Wonwoo carefully wipes away your tears with his hand before bringing you both inside. Before entering the venue, he brings you to the womenâs restroom, triple checking that no one is inside so he can be in there with you to properly clean your face. He wipes your splotchy cheeks and looks down at you, his eyes gentle and kind, so different from the hard and dark ones you see everyday.
âWhat happened?â he softly asks.
You roll your eyes to the side, unable to look Wonwoo in the eyes.
âShe asked if we were sexually active. When I refused to answer, she said I was being a bad wife by not fulfilling my obligations as a wife in pleasuring my husband and that it would reflect badly on everyone in our family. And she said Iâve already gone out of my way to ruin the family image by having my own company and not being a stay at home wife.â
Tears pool in your eyes as you look down recalling the last bit of what she said.
âAnd she called me a disappointment to our family. She said she and my dad went out of their way to find me a perfect husband and I was ruining it all by pursuing my silly, unimportant desires with my company. All this because Iâm not pregnant yet. Wonwoo, we got married just 2 months ago. Iâm not sure why they think we need a baby so soon in the first place.â
You donât realize but youre clutching Wonwooâs forearms. You only realize when he pulls away to take your face in his hands.
âSince you donât hear it enough, I hope you know Iâm proud of you and what you do. I donât want a house wife, I want a wife who pursues what she wants. Youâve built a major tech empire and youâre only 24. Iâll⊠take care of this at some point I promise. You shouldnât have to hear the brunt of all the baby talk from either of our parents.
He folds you into one last hug, the two of you in the silent bathroom holding onto each other like a lifeline.
-
After numerous speeches and awards, the event is finally over. Wonwoo opens the car door for you, waiting until youâre inside to round the corner. He opens his side and tells you heâs going to quickly run to the bathroom before the long drive back home.
He heads back inside, walking right past the bathroom and into the venue making a beeline directly towards both of your talking parents.
âWonwoo my dear-,â his mom starts.
âStop.â Wonwoo immediately interrupts, holding his hand up.
âIâm just here to quickly say one thing to all 4 of you and I donât want anyone interrupting. This is the last time Iâm officially making this request. Stop. Asking. Us. Especially y/n when we are having a baby. We got married 2 months ago, and I donât care if thatâs more than enough time to start âmakingâ a baby. It is truly none of your business and your comments and questions are both invasive and disrespectful towards my wife. Her job isnât to produce a baby. Sheâs the founder and ceo of a tech company worth millions and you canât even say anything about that. Keep it up, keep asking about a baby, and I personally promise you that you will not be a part of its life.â
âIs that a threat, son?â your father asks narrowing his eyes at Wonwoo.
âIt is.â Wonwoo immediately replies.
âOne more question. One more comment. Whether you make it in front of me or not. I will know and I will find out and I will go forward with my punishment. Iâm not scared of any of you. This is me protecting my wife.â
With that, Wonwoo swiftly turns around and walks away.
Everyone blinks.
âI must say, youve raised your son to be a good husband,â your mom says to Wonwooâs parents, impressed that he immediately came to your defense.
Wonwooâs mom watches him walk away. âNo. It wasnât us. I think itâs just who he is.â
-
Wonwoo gets back in the car apologizing for taking forever, saying that he ran into a relative. He drives the two of you home, his heart still beating with adrenaline at his secret confrontation with all your parents. Someone has to protect you from their wrath.
-
When you step inside the house, Wonwoo locks the door and isnât expecting you to be right in front of him. You place both your hands on his chest and look up at him. He looks down at you and wraps his arms around your waist.
âDid you really go to the bathroom?â
Wonwoo pauses. He knows he canât lie to you. Not when youâre holding him so close and looking up at him with your shiny eyes.
He lightly laughs and says no.
âWill you tell me where you really went?â
Wonwoo sighs and looks around the room before meeting your eyes again.
âI went to go⊠talk with both of our parents.â he sheepishly admits.
âAnd what did you say?â narrowing your eyes.
âNot much. You know just a little threat,â he says smiling at you.
You smile back and donât press further. You place a kiss on his cheek and lean into his ear.
âThank you for standing up for me. Especially to our parents.â
You make to break away but wonwoo pulls you in, leaning down to kiss you on the lips. You freeze, but kiss him back, feeling him tighten his arms around your waist. He breaks away first and before you can even react, heâs carrying you bridal style up the stairs.
-
Youâre both lying in Wonwooâs bed, exhausted from how Wonwoo just ravaged you for 2 hours straight. He made you cum 5 times and you still feel like youâre seeing stars. All of a sudden, he pulls you close and whispers in your ear.
âIf only they knew the answer to all their questions.â
You roll your eyes as Wonwoo kisses right under your eyes.
He pulls you into his chest and you fall asleep in the arms of your protector.

Dear Ms. Kang Raeyang,
It is with sincere solemnity that we extend our invitation to you. You have been chosen to reside within the Maestro, as per your parents' prior instructions, following their untimely departure.
In the midst of our condolences, we trust that you will heed this summons and join us promptly.
Yours faithfully,
The Residents of the Maestro
The apartment complex loomed over the quiet street. Its sleek exterior, while undeniably contemporary, exuded an aura of mystery and unease. The building's design was a juxtaposition of sharp angles and smooth curves, creating an unsettling yet intriguing silhouette against the skyline. Dark tinted windows lined its façade, offering no glimpse into the secrets hidden within.
As I approached, a chill seemed to linger in the air, sending shivers down my spine. The atmosphere around the Maestro seemed to be cloaked in a thick fog, obscuring the true nature of what lay beyond its imposing exterior. Despite its modernity, there was something ancient and foreboding about the building, as if it held secrets that had been buried for centuries. It loomed over the surrounding landscape like a silent sentinel, watching, waiting.
A heavy iron gate stood sentinel at the entrance, its bars twisted into elaborate designs that seemed to writhe and shift in the shifting light. Beyond it, a cobblestone path disappeared into the darkness.
In front of the entrance, a small security post with tinted windows stood like a sentinel, its presence adding to the eerie atmosphere. My breath hitched as I grip the invitation tightly, slowly approaching the post.Â
Upon inspection, the post seems to be empty. Its tinted windows give no clue of whether there was anyone inside of it. I raised my knuckles, politely knocking on the window three times.Â
âHello?â
The sound echoed hollowly in the still air. For a moment, there was no response, just the faint chirp of a passing bird. Then, a shuffling noise came from within, followed by the creak of a chair.
A figure emerged from the shadows, their features obscured by the tinted glass. They leaned forward, peering out at me with unseen eyes.
"Yes? Can I help you?" Their voice was muffled, distant, sending a shiver down my spine.
"Erm, h-hi," I stammered, my voice barely above a whisper. "I received an invitation to... to live here."
There was a moment of silence, as if the figure was considering my words. Then, with a slight nod, they reached out and slid open a small panel at the base of the window.
"Give it here," they said, their voice low and gravelly.
I hesitated for a moment before passing the invitation through the opening. The figure took it, their hand disappearing back into the darkness.
It felt like eternity, before they slid the window door open with a metallic scrape. A man sat behind the window, holding the invitation. He wore a black, security guardâs outfit and had a chiselled, handsome face with a strong, angular jawline and piercing eyes. His sleek black hair frames his face in waves, and he ran a veiny hand back his hair as he handed the invitation back.Â
âYou're⊠Miss Kang Raeyang?â he asked, his voice deep and resonant, carrying a hint of intrigue.
I nodded, nervous under his strong and commanding presence. The man observed me with a judicious gaze, his eyes seeming to weigh every aspect of my being.
âMy name is Choi Seungcheol,â he said, his voice low and measured, as if each word carried a hidden weight. His lips formed a tight smile, but there was a hint of something unreadable in his eyes, shrouded behind a veil of mystery. âIâm a resident and the security guard here.â
âIâve been told to⊠show you around,â he continued, his tone betraying a reluctance. Cautiously, I bowed in response, feeling a shiver run down my spine. âIâm Kang Raeyang. Nice to meet you.â
Seungcheol shut the window panes with a deliberate click. The iron gates slowly opened, and he stepped out of his post, his movements smooth and controlled. He handed me a card, his eyes flickering to the luggage behind me.
âYour apartment has been prepared by your parents, Miss Kang,â he informed me, his tone neutral but his gaze penetrating. âThis is the key card to your apartment, 201.â
âThank you⊠You can call me Raeyang, by the way,â I replied, my voice a little uncertain as I peered at the keycard with interest. It was the size of a credit card, plain black with a âMâ logo in gold. A small â201â was etched in the corner of the card.
Seungcheol hummed softly, his expression unreadable as I looked back up at him. âLikewise. You can just call me Seungcheol.â
There was a period of awkward silence. Seungcheol's gaze lingered on me for a moment longer, as if assessing something beyond the surface. Then, with a nod, he motioned towards my luggage.
"You can leave them here," he said, his tone softening just slightly. "I'll take care of your luggage. Follow me."
With that, he turned and began walking towards the entrance of the building. I fell into step beside him, feeling a mix of apprehension and curiosity about what lay ahead. As we walked, the grandeur of the Maestro became even more apparent. The intricate details of the architecture seemed to come alive in the fading light, casting long shadows that danced across the cobblestone path.
Seungcheol remained mostly silent as we walked, his footsteps echoing in the quiet surroundings. Occasionally, he would look towards a certain direction, as if expecting somebody to be waiting there. But nobody ever showed up.
Finally, we reached the entrance, where the heavy black doors stood slightly ajar. Seungcheol pushed them open with a gentle push, revealing the dimly lit foyer beyond.
"After you," he said, his voice soft but commanding, as if granting permission to enter a forbidden realm.
I stepped inside, feeling a rush of anticipation as the doors closed behind me with a soft thud. I found myself in awe of a grand lobby adorned with marble floors and ornate chandeliers hanging from the high ceiling. The room was bathed in a warm golden glow, the light casting intricate patterns on the polished surfaces.
Seungcheol gestured towards the row of gleaming elevators at the far end of the lobby.
"Your apartment is on the second floor," he explained, his voice echoing faintly in the spacious room. I nodded, following him towards the elevators. The doors slid open silently as we approached, revealing a plush interior with mirrored walls. Seungcheol pressed the button for the second floor, and the elevator began its ascent with a soft hum.
As we rose, I couldn't help but steal glances at Seungcheol. There was something about him, something mysterious and intriguing, that drew me in despite my apprehension.Â
After Mum and Dad died in the sudden car crash, they left me nothing but some money and an instruction to wait for an invitation to an apartment building, which they had signed me up for. But why? Why this place? Why didnât they tell me anything when they were alive?
These questions plagued my thoughts as the elevator came to a stop. The doors slid open, revealing a long hallway lined with doors. Seungcheol led the way, his steps echoing on the polished floor. As we reached the door marked with the number 201, Seungcheol paused. âHere.â
With a deep breath, I slid the keycard into the lock and pushed open the door, stepping into the apartment that was to be my new home. Inside, the space was bathed in soft lamplight, casting a warm glow over the furnishings. It was tastefully decorated, with touches of elegance and comfort that spoke of my parents' love and care.
But even as I took in the familiar surroundings, a sense of unease lingered in the air. What secrets lay hidden behind these walls? And why had my parents chosen to keep me in the dark?
"New neighbour?" I jumped at the new voice, turning around. A young man stood in front of the door opposite mine, his almond-shaped eyes peering at me with interest. He was dressed in a plain white tank top that accentuated his toned arms, and blue jeans that hugged his legs comfortably. Seungcheol frowned.
"Soonyoung, you scared her."
"Sorry," Soonyoung scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "I was just about to go over to Chanâs; he had a new routine to show me."
If Seungcheolâs aura was commanding and mysterious, Soonyoung was the opposite. He cheerfully walked over to us, holding out a hand. "Hi, Iâm Kwon Soonyoung. You can call me by my stage name Hoshi," he beamed, revealing two rows of pearly white teeth. "I live in 202.â
âIâm Kang Raeyang. You can just call me by my name,â I said, shaking his hand carefully. His skin was cool to the touch, like it was dipped in iced water. âNice to meet you, Hoshi.â
Soonyoung gave me another huge smile before turning to Seungcheol. âHow come youâre the one showing Raeyang around? I thought Jeonghan hyung was supposed to do the job.â
Seungcheol's expression shifted subtly, a shadow passing over his features before he replied, "Jeonghan is busy with other matters."
Soonyoung nodded, though there was a curious glint in his eyes as he glanced back at me âWell, I really need to go. You can always look for me if you need help,â he said, jabbing his thumb in the direction of his apartment door. âSee you around, Raeyang.âÂ
With that, he flashed me one last bright smile before bouncing off towards the elevator. Seungcheol cleared his throat, attracting my attention.Â
âYour parentâs lawyer lives in the Maestro,â he said. âHe will be here shortly to explain some things to you. I advise you to wait in the apartment while I go get your luggage.â
I nodded, taking in his words. The mention of my parents' lawyer only added to the mystery surrounding this place.
"Alright," I replied. "I'll wait in the apartment."
Seungcheol gave a curt nod before heading off to retrieve my luggage. As I watched him go, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was much more to this buildingâand to my parents' intentionsâthan met the eye.Â
I entered my apartment. It was small and cosy, with a few decorative plants scattered around. The soft light filtering in through the windows added to the warm atmosphere. Seungcheol mentioned that my parents had decorated the place for me, and I smiled when I saw a framed photo of my parents and I on the counter.
The sight of their smiling faces brought a bittersweet pang to my heart. Despite the unanswered questions surrounding their sudden passing, it was comforting to have a piece of them here with me.
I moved further into the apartment, exploring the space. The living area was furnished with a comfortable-looking couch and a coffee table, while the kitchenette boasted modern appliances and neatly organised cabinets. Another soft smile found its way to my face when I saw a bookshelf filled with books on the wall.Â
A hallway led to the bedroom, where a cosy-looking bed awaited me, adorned with soft blankets and plump pillows. It was a simple yet inviting space, one that felt like home despite its unfamiliarity.
I left the bedroom, taking a book from the shelves before settling on the couch. The Girls, by Emma Cline. I frowned, staring at the cover of the book.
Strange. I donât read books of this genre.
Just as I was about to open the book and flip through its pages, the doorbell rang. I hurried over to the door, revealing a tall, lean man standing outside. His presence exuded a sense of polished professionalism. He stood tall and composed, with an air of confidence that commanded attention. His dark hair was neatly styled, framing his face in a way that accentuated his striking features.
Dressed in a well-fitted suit, the man spoke, his voice was smooth and articulate, carrying a sense of assurance.
"Miss Kang Raeyang?" he said, his tone professional yet warm. I nodded. âYouâre my parentâs lawyer?â
His lips were set in a gentle curve and his eyes crinkled kindly into a crescent moon. âYes. My name is Hong Jisoo, or Joshua. Do you mind if I help you with these?â He gestured to the luggages behind him. âCheol had to rush back, so he told me to help you.â
âOh, thank you, Joshua!â I said gratefully. Joshua flashed me a small smile before he easily lifted the two heavy suitcases into the apartment. "I am sure that you have many questions, Miss Kang," Joshua said as I quickly pushed the suitcases into the bedroom. "Iâll try my best to answer them.âÂ
âPlease, take a seat. Iâll make you some tea⊠Do you have a preference?â I turned to Joshua, who sat on the couch. He thought for a moment.
âSome earl grey tea will do, Miss Kang,â Joshua replied.
âAlright. Do call me Raeyang,â I replied as I busied myself in the kitchen, putting the kettle on the stove and retrieving the tea leaves and cups. The layout of the kitchen was surprisingly similar to the one in the house where both my parents and I lived.
As I waited for the water to boil, I couldn't shake the feeling of anticipation and nervousness that hung in the air. Peeking from the kitchen, I could see Joshua looking around the living room, humming contentedly. He seems nice⊠and very handsome.
In fact, the three men Iâve come across were all very good looking. Seungcheol, mysterious. Hoshi, friendly. Joshua here gives me an aura of a gentleman.
I shook my head, dispelling the thoughts, and went back to preparing the tea. When it was ready, I set it on a tray, placing it in front of Joshua.
"HereâŠ" I said, offering Joshua the tray with a small smile.
Joshua gave me a nod of thanks as he took a cup and had a sip of the warm tea. âLike I said earlier, Raeyang, Iâm pretty sure you have many questions about this arrangement. I cannot promise that I know the answer to all of them, but I am pretty sure I can answer some basic ones.â He sat the cup down back on the tray, turning to me. âLetâs hear them.â
âFirstly, when did my parents get me an apartment in this place?â I questioned.Â
âYour parents actually own this building, Raeyang,â Joshua dropped the bombshell, his words heavy with significance. I gaped at him in shock. âWhat?â
âIn fact, I am considered a tenant of yours,â Joshua continued, taking another sip of tea. âNow that your parents have passed, and the building is under your name.â
âI-I seeâŠâ I stammered, still digesting the fact. âI never knewâŠâ
âNow you do.â Joshua said kindly. âIf I am not wrong, the documents are in your letterbox already. Have Cheol shown you where it is?â You shook your head robotically in answer. âNo worries, I'll retrieve it for you.â
âThank you.â You composed yourself. âSecondly⊠Did my parents leave anything else for me other than this building?â
Joshua shook his head. âIâm afraid not.â I nodded. âI see. Since when did my parents own this building?â
âFor quite a long time.â Joshua answered. âPerhaps, around the time when you were born.â
Twenty five years? I couldnât help but let out a chuckle of disbelievement. How could Mum and Dad keep something like that from me for twenty-five years? What other secrets are they keeping from me?Â
âI understand how you are feeling now, Raeyang.â Joshuaâs smooth voice pulled me out of my darkening thoughts. It was then I realised that tears were gathering in my eyes. I quickly wiped them away, embarrassed. âSorryâŠâÂ
âThereâs no need to apologise, Raeyang,â Joshua said gently, his eyes filled with empathy. âItâs perfectly natural to feel overwhelmed by all of this. Your parents loved you very much, and Iâm sure they had their reasons for keeping this from you.âÂ
I must have said my thoughts out loud. "I guess soâŠ" I sniffed, dabbing at my eye. Joshua turned away for a moment, peering intently at the artificial plant next to the couch. I was grateful for him to give me a little private moment to gather my thoughts.
When I composed myself, Joshua turned back to me. âLetâs talk about this another day,â he suggested, reaching for the tea again. âOver here at the Maestro, we usually would have dinner together. The residents of the Maestro,â he added, noticing my look of confusion. âYou should join us; itâll be a great way for you to get to know the rest of us later.â
I nodded, feeling a sense of relief at the suggestion. "That sounds like a good idea. Thank you, Joshua."
Joshua smiled warmly. "Of course, Raeyang. Over here, we all support each other. Youâre part of us now.â He stood up and I followed him. âDinner starts at seven, apartment 301. If youâre not sure of where to go, just look for Soonyoung. I believe you have already met him.â
âIâll see you out,â I said, following him to the door. Before he left, Joshua turned to me, holding out his hand with a smile on his face.
âI forgot to say this,â he said softly as I held onto his ice-cold palms, shaking them. âWelcome to the family, Raeyang.â
