Book Tag!

Thanks for tagging me @sappylemontree and @vesimsve

Rules: in a text post, list 10 books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard- they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you.  Tag 10 friends, including me, so I’ll see your list.

My list is under the cut.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley - I adore gothic novels (especially these three) for exploring the big themes in life - the human condition, love, loss, death, fear, etc.  There’s just something so atmospheric about these books too.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - Like all of Austen’s books, this is such a pleasure to read - entertaining and diverting while still having substance.

The Complete Works of Oscar Wilde - I have been a hardcore fan of Oscar Wilde for a while.  There’s so much variety - comedy, drama, horror.  Also, I never get tired of his cutting wit and one-liners.

Metamorphoses by Ovid - I was assigned this book in a classical mythology class I took in college.  It makes you realize how people have always tried to make sense of and give meaning to their lives and the world around them.  Even though the stories are ancient, you see how timeless they are.

The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson - Also assigned in school.  Her poems are surprising modern and interestingly cryptic.

Ariel by Sylvia Plath - Much like the previous author, Plath’s poems are very modern for her times and show the difficulty of being an unconventional woman.  Her words are so forceful and full of emotion.  There are quite a few poems in this book that I just keep coming back to.

Woman Hollering Creek by Sandra Cisneros - I like how this collection of short stories ties in Mexican history and folklore, such as La Llorona (one of my favorite legends).

Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides - A great coming of age story that explores gender and ethnic identity.  I appreciated the allusions to greek mythology.

The Hours by Michael Cunningham - This book has some of the most gorgeous and deeply moving prose.

Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice - My favorite book in my teens and the beginning of my fascination with vampires.

And here are my favorite childhood books (I thought I’d add these separately)-

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll - I enjoyed this tale because like Alice, I was always lost in my imagination as a child.  I’m interested in the Victorian era, so as an adult I appreciate the satire of the time.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett - I related to strong and complicated female heroines as a child (still do).  It’s a heartwarming tale.

The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams - I swear I start tearing up just thinking about this book.

Matilda by Roald Dahl - So darkly funny and deliciously twisted.

Ugh, my list is running over and I feel like I could just keep going (don’t worry, I won’t).  I guess this is what happens when you invite a bookworm English major to do a book tag.

I tag @jenba, @bsimth, @redhotchilisimblr, @simmingstuff, @budgie2budgie, @stargirl-sims, @murilala, @bustedpixels, @jools-simming, @simlaughlove, @simmindipityunplugged, @alexpilgrimblog, @sim-spell, @theartsysims and anyone else who wants to do this (no pressure though).

Ive Been Experimenting With Photography In Game And Discovered That Taking Photos Through Windows Creates

I’ve been experimenting with photography in game and discovered that taking photos through windows creates interesting effects (I’m loving the dreamy and serene feel).  Only thing is, I feel a bit like the pervy peeping Tom of the sims world - I’m just waiting for a sim cop to come along and chastise me.
