my first yuri on ice fanart since 2019, and also the cover of the first chapter of the doujin/fancomic i plan to draw~~ my next drawing will just be a just for fun victor fanart before starting with the doujin tho~~ hope you like it <3 any feedback is really appreciated ...and also art tips, lot's of art tips, cuz i'm rusty and haven't drawn in so long i forgot a lot of stuff lol

i mean the fandom already recognized Phichit as the number 1 Victuri shipper the moment this episode dropped

Okay so when Phichit is reminiscing about when he decided he wanted to skate to The King and The Skater, we get a nice little flashback to when he and Yuuri were in college. And in the background, we see a very small corner of a poster.

Hmmmm that’s interesting.

Oh yeah, that’s right. It’s one of the MANY posters we see hung up in Yuuri’s room back in Hasetsu and the same picture Viktor has framed in his bedroom/the banquet room of Yu-topia Katsuki.

So I’m just saying that Yuuri definitely had posters of Viktor hung up all over his dorm too, it isn’t exclusive to his childhood bedroom.

Which means Phichit definitely had to deal with his Viktor obsession! I can’t even imagine how he felt when Viktor flew across the globe to coach Yuuri, or when they got engaged. At this point he must be the #1 Viktuuri stan because how do you watch your best friend pine over a guy for years and then watch them get together and NOT be???

Rewatching Yuri on ice subbed for the first time

i've only watched the sub when the anime was ongoing and then remained dub only bc i had a strong preference for dub, rewatching the anime dubbed countless times to the point of having every dubbed line memorized but never having watched the sub a second time.

here's what i notice rewatching the sub after 8 whole years;

Episode 1

Yuri sounds significantly more anxious in sub compared to dub

Mari feels/sounds kinda harsh and lowkey pessimistic/realistic during her first apperance in sub while during the same scene in dub she feels/sounds supportive and warm.

Minako and Yuris parents are the exact same in both sub and dub so far

WHATS WITH YUUKOS TOMBOY VOICE????? legit took me by surprise because she has such a cutesy voiced in dub OMG -love her tomboy voice in sub tho-

the triplets sound much older in sub than they do in dub lol

watching this subbed makes the ED feel even more nostalic ;A;

there actually is a wicked stepmother; it's yuri's crippling anxiety that's the wicked stepmother which sucks extra hard for our pork cutlet bowl femme fatale bc unlike cinderella he can't just fuck off an escape their clutches. but with the power of love (and maybe some coitus) victor gradually frees yuri from "the wicked stepmother" a.k.a. his crippling anxiety

YOI is basically a Cinderella story, and Stammi Vicino is the glass slipper

Part 2.

-- So a natural way of acting, that doesn't sound like anime, requires a lot of energy?

Toyonaga: That's my personal impression, but for voice acting, that has to match characters drawn in anime-style, there is a certain template that can be used as a base for it, but my plan was to ignore all of this, and instead make all lines my own, and in order to do that, you have to think about 'why is this character saying this line right now?', their background etc., all of it. I care quite a lot, to make this feel real. So it's maybe not very much exhausting physically, but mentally, it can be exhausting, sometimes. Because the longer you do it, the more you identify with the character that you play, and then you cry (laugh), so I try to balance it all well.

-- It makes sense! So, this time, Mitsurou Kubo-san is resposnible for producing storyboards - what was your impression, when you first read them?

Toyonaga: I feel that reading them is just like reading a new comic series by Kubo-san, and it's really so interesting, that it's a perpetual 'what is going to happen next?!' for me (laugh). The overall construction of the story, I should say? The comedy parts and the serious parts fit together so well, and it makes the storyboards very easy to read. I was also very curious to see how the world that she portrayed was going to be translated into anime. And you can feel that the love that Kubo-san has for figure skating is also a part of these storyboards, and I felt that we mustn't let that go to waste.

[Notes: Oh, those storyboards...😆 Yuri!!! is a special case anime for many reasons, but one of them, one that I personally was fascinated by ever since I became a fan, is why they are so unwilling to share this story and the characters etc. with fans.

I mean, the storyboards were there all the time and are still there, all somebody needs to do is to bind them and take them to a publisher. How much could they cost? Let's say they split it into episodes, and it's something like 5000 yens per book, 60000 yens total... (Expensive, but feels so cheap, when I'm thinking about it, rn😆) So many people would absolutely buy them, no matter the price. But you just know they will absolutely never ever publish them (and it was confirmed that they are absolutely perfectly readable, btw, and a lot of material had to be omitted to meet the time constraints).

Imo, it's always been a sort of Sayo&Mitsurou's protectiveness over the characters and the story, a kind of 'only we really know them, and it will stay forever this way ✨'... Yk, that's why there are only 12 episodes and one short comic by the original creators and an extremely small amount of quasi-canon stuff. It's really 'our story&our characters' >∞> money. Compare it to how animes usually have an endless stream of new content, like cd-dramas, short comics, games, collab games etc.]

Oh, how the tables have turned.

fall skating

I mean, I know new fanarts are being made, it just feels like they get drowned in the sea of old ones to me.

I was just expressing my sadness over how dead it makes the, still very much alive, fandom feel when the new stuff just keeps drowning in old stuff.

Especially since I just came back to the YOI fandom after a very long break and don't have access to my old Tumblr account (@snowrins-art) anymore, so I basically have to search for any YOI accounts as if I had just freshly entered the fandom but with how much new content gets buried by old content most "YOI accounts" I find left the fandom and moved on many years ago, especially art accounts.

The majority of active YOI accounts I found whom I followed were people who interacted with my art posts, because that's currently the easiest and most reliable way for me to find new accounts to follow.

If I hadn't found an active YOI discord server before creating this Tumblr account, I don't even feel confident I might have found any fellow YOI fans to bond and enjoy this fandom with, so I just personally think that prioritizing the new content over the old might help more to keep the fandom alive as it'd make it easier for current fandom members to find each other, especially for new members or those who just recently came back.

Like Yess I do get overcome with joy and nostalgia when I see the gorgeous victor art from blau678 (my favourite YOI artist) again after so many years, but right now I just wanna make friends and connect with fellow yoi fans

It really makes me sad to scroll through my Tumblr timeline, see someone just having reblogged some awesome YOI art just to see that the art itself was made in 2017... It just makes me feel like the fandom is so dead because WHERE'S THE YURI ON ICE FANART DRAWN THIS YEAR??? LAST YEAR??? OR OR AT ANY POINT IN TIME AFTER 2017????

Plz don't tell me there ain't any...

-- Yuri!!! on ICE finally started airing - please, tell us honestly, how you felt after it was decided you got the role of Katsuki Yuuri?

Toyonaga: Personally, I really like figure skating, so when my agency contacted me about a figure skating anime, I was very happy. My manager likes figure skating even more than I do, though, so I was asked very fervently to get the role no matter what! (laugh) 'I can't really promise anything' - I thought then, but Kubo Mitsurou-san told me later that during the audition, she felt instinctively: 'Toyonaga-san is Katsuki Yuuri!', so I was very happy to hear that. Yuuri is an ordinary guy from a province, so even if it's an anime, I wanted to try to play the role as realistically as possible. During the audition, I tried to speak my lines as if they were my own words, and not make them sound anime-like, as much as it was possible. But I was worried that if this style wasn't what they were looking for for this anime, they would just think that I'm a very bad voice actor. In the end, it turned out that they liked it, so it was a relief. When they told me that I'd got the role, I was so happy I almost cried, but my manager was so excited and so extremely happy, that I couldn't keep up with them (laugh). Later, when I finally realized that I really got the role, I felt a bit of pressure too, because I set myself this challenge to play the role in such a way to not make it feel like anime voice acting, and I wasn't sure if I could really do for a whole season. Even though, that was all my of own doing (laugh).
