tired of jedi characters comparing their relationship to their master with a parent-child dynamic. they dont KNOW that dynamic!

give me more jedi comparing a non-jedi's familial relationship to that of an apprentice and a master - at least that would make sense!

jedi going "yeah, an adult who guides and protects you and you're supposed to listen to them? yeah thats a master- oh, your mom is like that too? neat :)"

more jedi not really understanding non-jedi family dynamics. more jedi being horrified at the concept of someone being rejected or mistreated by their parent, because "why did they choose to have you then???"

there's a lot of interesting parallels between master-padawan dynamics and parental/familial dynamics. i just want to see more of the comparison going the other way.

This is just your casual reminder that the Jedi were not the bad guys, they weren't morally or philosophically in the wrong, and they certainly didn't do anything to deserve what happened to them.

So apparently in Legends Boba Fett is a massive bookworm...

I could've thought about a crack fic of Boba meeting his Grandfather and just asking for the library with Jango in the corner dreading about how there's another one.

One thing that i was upset about the EU becoming non canon is these awesome comics are not canon. We don’t have a backstory to the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy anymore. I love each one of these cause they are with Jango and Boba Fett. I highly recommend these graphic novels.

The Four Essentials of Mandalorian Cooking

The Mando’a dictionary mentions in one single sentence the existence of four essentials of Mandalorian cooking. Naturally, I was intrigued to find out more about those mysterious essentials as they could help me create authentic recipes for my little cookbook project.

The first essential is provided by the dictionary itself. In a Star Wars Insider article, Karen Traviss also says that “[Mandalorian] food [needs] to be portable, nourishing and preferably to require little cooking”. I have structured these thoughts into the missing three essentials that felt most suitable for Mandalorian culture. But let me start from the top.

1. draluram [DRAH-lur-ahm] — vivid; used only of food, to indicate strong, distinct flavour; lit. bright mouth; one of the four essentials of Mandalorian cooking

What is the first thing that comes to your mind about Mandalorian food? — Spicy? Because that is where we are going to start. Spices and herbs are used in many cultures to bring distinct flavor to otherwise bland food. I can‘t imagine cooking without using salt, pepper, basil and turmeric. These are my go-to spices and herbs I use daily. A strong flavor does not necessarily mean the food has to be super spicy and immediately kill your tastebuds (though it is desirable, especially with an aruetii (outsider) at your table). A lot of dishes cover other flavors as well, like sweet, bitter, sour, salty and the ominous umami. Anything fighting off the taste of blasterfire on your tongue is welcome. But making the food spicy is obviously part of the fun, be it now simply janad (spicy) or spicy enough to give you heturam (a sought-after state of intense burning in the mouth) or hetikles (a burning sensation in the sinuses).

2. yai’yai [YAY-aye] — richly nourishing; peculiarly Mandalorian description of dense, high-calorie food; of great importance to people dependent on highly portable field rations

A diet consistent of nourishing food is most important to the Mandalorian people. It provides them with all the necessary substances to keep themselves ready for battle at any given time. It also makes it much easier to survive long periods with little to no food (be it because you don’t remove your helmet in front of others and can’t catch a quiet moment or because you are fighting on a battlefield) and to provide yourself with a quick high-calorie intake as soon as you get a few second off from fighting. 

3. pakod [PAH-kohd] — easy; simple

Mandalorian are deadly warriors always ready for battle, and they are also known to be nomadic, which means they don’t have much equipment and elaborate methods to prepare their food. It has to be easy in preparation, especially when it has to be cooked on missions or in the field. Manda have mercy if it’s the cook’s first ever dish they make on a job. Just ask yourself: Do you need five different bowls to make the dish? Good luck trying to find a Mando owning more than one bowl outside of the palace‘s kitchen in Keldabe. (But I do believe there might be some more elaborate recipes reserved for celebrations.)

4. liser me'dinuir [LEE-say med-IN-oo-eer] — to be able to share

Karen Traviss says food needs to be transportable, but I say it needs to be shareable. Mandalorian culture puts clan before everything else. Phrases like  “Aliit ori'shya tal'din.” (Family is more than blood.) are an essential part of what Mandalorians value most in life. So it’s only logical to make sure that every dish can be shared with your aliit (family; clan). That of course includes the possibility to double the ingredients easily if more people are coming. And what is better than a table full of various dishes that everyone brought with them, eager to share and taste with their clan? (Plus, almost everything can be transported, you just need the right container.)

So, that’s it. The four essentials of Mandalorian cooking. 

Of course, this is just my headcanon and neither right nor wrong. I ask to please credit me when using these in fanworks, but you are also welcome to make up your own essentials or just forget about them entirely. The recipes I post will mostly follow these essentials as best as I can manage.
