In my hc she is Ellington Feint, and Count Olaf recruited her at the age of 13 while she was sheltering at the Ned H. Rirger theatre. She was never really a firefighter, just pretended to be one while being on the firestarting side of the schism all along.

Best asoue Esmé headcanon is that she was never a part of vfd they just met her through like community theatre and she stuck around and put her nose in everything like a stray cat you started to feed who now won’t leave you alone and also MAY want to kill you
