I don’t know what it is, but for some reason Nolanverse Batjokes just does not do it for me. When you get into the earlier Batjokes content on a03 it’s, understandably, primarily centered around the hype of Dark Knight. But there’s something about it that… doesn't hit the way I want it to.

What happens when Batman and Joker are in a 24/7 power exchange dynamic and it gets brought into their public personas? Oh yeah! You get some pretty freaky exhibitionism, a game of Simon Says, and a bit lot of worship via the assistance of Bruce’s tongue.

Me and my headmate are currently writing a fic and we were on the same page (ha) for a good 3k words but then we had suuuuper different ideas about where we wanted to go with our initial idea once we got to this really spicy part. Now we’re 6k+ words in and there’s very much a sense of ~too many cooks in the kitchen~ BUT even though it’s different than either of us intended it’s still a good collab lol.

ALSO it sparked this idea about how it would be so fun to take an initial idea or even a 3k word “intro” (of our own) and then have the two of us write our own fics. Basically it would be writing two fics for the price of one, same concept and characters and ship, but the direction is entirely different. So curious to see what we can do with it!

WOW it’s 4am and I just finished reading a “Matchjokes” (Matches Malone/Joker) series on AO3 that so perfectly portrays B’s DID. It was a big ouch series for me because it’s from Joker’s POV about him realizing he loves Batman and not Bruce or Matches—and just because he’s dating/fucking B’s body doesn’t mean it’s who he actually wants. But the last part of it includes a big switch that Joker intentionally triggers and Bruce ends up fronting and talking so genuinely and so candidly about his system. He talks about how Matches can love Joker but Bruce/Batman never can and he expresses his guilt and disgust at Matches choices. He talks about how he (Bruce) knows Batman is fighting a losing battle and dedicating their life and body to a lost cause. And that Matches was stationed at the front for a full six months (a time wherein there was no Batman) because of trauma that happened in both Bruce AND Batman’s life (being when Robin left/went no contact with him). I’ve never seen B’s system addressed so candidly. Even when I write about B and his DID, I’ve always written him as keeping the walls up in his system for survival’s sake. But this—this was so good. That level of insight and headspace exploration, even nestled in an angsty piece I was initially drawn to for the smut, was the best kind of sucker punch.
