Shiro: Hi, Do You Take Walk-ins?

Employee: Sir, this is the morgue.

Matt: Are you excited to see Adam?

Lance: who’s Adam?

Shiro: I don’t recall

Matt: uhhh… your ex-fiancé?

Keith: HE DOESNT RECALL MATTHEW

Most of my wild ramblings absolutely never see the light of day, but this one @milkeumilkeou and I thought of was too wild not to share, so here it is. 

Adam and Shiro are pretty devoted parents, and take a couple years off after each baby arrives before going back to work. This means that when they do go back there’s two or three classes they haven’t had yet, so the first years don’t know anything about their personal lives except for the few kids that have older friends or siblings on campus. This also means that the first years don’t know that Adashi are together, for the following three reasons:

1. Adam and Shiro rarely mention each other by name. Shiro just likes using “my husband” too much to refer to Adam directly, and Adam comes from a culture where married couples don’t often use each other’s names even in passing (they use pet names and nicknames instead, which you can’t really use when talking about your spouse in a more formal setting).

2. Sonia doesn’t look like Shiro, and Himeko doesn’t look like Adam. This is important because whenever Sonia visits her dads at the Garrison she hangs out at Adam’s research lab so she can mess around with the computers, and when Himeko comes along she’s always with Shiro because she likes to play with her stuffed animals in the fighter sims. Neither of the girls looks mixed unless you look really carefully, so none of Adam’s students know that Sonia has one East Asian parent, and Shiro’s students can’t tell that Himeko has one South Asian one. 

3. Shiro and Adam work on different ends on the campus and don’t meet up in the common areas, so none of the younger students have really seen them interact.

While the kids don’t know that Adam and Shiro are married to each other, they do know both of them are taken: Shiro talks about his perfect husband whenever he gets the chance (his students keep distracting him from assigning homework by asking how his family’s doing) and Adam likes to tell stories about “when my husband and I were your age” if he finishes a lecture early. Adashi’s students all assume that their teachers’ wonderful husbands are off working somewhere else or not around for some other good reason, because Professors Walia and Shirogane clearly love them but Sonia and Himeko are with their parents at the Garrison for a couple of days every week, and the husbands just never show up.

This is why all hell breaks loose when one of Adam’s students misreads his tutoring schedule, goes to his office an hour early, and sees Adam getting very passionately kissed by Professor Shirogane.
