I Kind Of Find It Funny That Out Of The Stargate/trek/wars Triumvirate I Only Used To Watch Stargate

I kind of find it funny that out of the stargate/trek/wars triumvirate I only used to watch Stargate when I was younger but now I know nothing about it.

Like I can tell you the plot of Star Wars despite only ever marginally engaging with universe.

I have only been a trekkie for a few months and I think I know way too much trivia.

But Stargate, the thing I actually enjoyed as a child/teen?

Nothing. Like… There is a gate? And they travel through it to different worlds? And I have a vague impression there was an episode with a planet with grass where they didn’t actually want to go and there was someone hostile there? And there were some alien characters? I think?

I hadn't even been a shipper or fanfic person before I saw Star Trek The Motion Picture.

I went into the movie knowing very little about Trek.

I left the cinema obsessed. I have not slept in weeks. I speak of nothing else. I dream of nothing else. I think of nothing else.

It’s not just the first 10 episodes.

On a non-Stargate note… is all of Star Trek so fraught with innuendo and sexual situations? Or is it just the first 10 or so episodes of OG Star Trek that I’ve watched so far?

I just felt like you would all know the answer. To be clear, I’m a completionist. The answer won’t affect my decision to watch it.

Say what you will, Janice Rand is a badass who takes her job seriously. A powerful alien might just destroy the ship any moment now? Well, she has a job to do and nothing is going to stop her.

Semi-based on that reboot elevator scene and also just my love for Uhura and the need for her and Kirk to be friends.

I don’t even think it matters which one of them is currently dating Spock, these two need someone who understands.

One of my favourite passtimes is teaching people about Star Trek through out-of-context clips and weird-but-not-really-wrong descriptions of plotlines.
