So after watching a bunch of streamers/youtubers play Slay the Princess and through my own playthroughs with my friends I’ve realized something about how the story comes together

Let me preface this by saying that I don’t think there’s a RIGHT way to experience Slay the Princess, BUT I do think that the first princess you meet can lead to a bit more confusion than others

!!major spoiler warning!! for like the basic story

I got this idea specifically after watching Porcelain Maid’s stream of it where he got The Beast and subsequently The Wild.

The Beast is pretty interesting as a route considering the information you get from her

- she can’t leave the cabin without you (alive)

- she doesn’t want to end the world

- your choice can drastically change her appearance/ how she adapts to your choices

I think The Wild as a path greatly benefits from your understanding of the chapter cycle and the Narrator confrontation.

For The Wild you figure out

- you’re in a construct

- you and the princess must work together to leave it (sound familiar?)

- as the long quiet, technically you are your own prison (i’ll explain this more later) (maybe in another post)

Tbh I think it’s really cool for certain routes to be shrouded in mystery and wtf-ness but later in the the story with more context it can really shine.

In comparison, Markiplier got The Spectre as his first. And The Good Ending but I’ll talk about that ending another time.

In The Spectre there are a pretty cool amount of tidbits you can figure out just by how you get there

- killing the princess is actually pretty easy

- the Narrator’s a piece of shit reward is an eternity of nothingness

- perception changes the princess’s form (you perceive her as dead therefore she is)

- she can’t leave the cabin without you (alive)

- she doesn’t have a narrator or any voices

- she has an inherent wish to be whole in some way (in this case it’s to “go home”)

- the Narrator is not a voice, something entirely different

This information is really cool to start off with specifically if you’re a lore player or just want to piece the story together. All of this has led me to wondering, what would be the “best” way to get all of the story in one run? Which combination of Princesses cover somewhat everything from the player’s and her abilities to the introduction of the construct without the Narrator filling in everything at the end?

"Astarion is actually so masculine and wants to protect and provide for Tav! He's actually really strong physically and can throw Tav around! And also he's always on top so he's clearly masculine! And him being with women means he gets an extra special vampire treat ;)"

"Astarion is such a bratty effeminate twink who complains about his nails and cares too much about his appearance! His voice and movements are sooo campy! I simply can't imagine him with a woman, he's sooo gay-coded, he's simply made to be a bratty bottom."
