As someone who grew up in a household where if you are an adult you are too old for nice things and being emotional and liking silly stupid stuff ofmd really carved out a place for itself in a deep part of my heart

Not to be dramatic but we are getting jealous Edward Teach born on a beach this week and I just-

I think the thing that probably bothers me the most about certain people putting ALL the blame on Izzy for "creating the Kraken" and giving him no grace is not just the racist undertones that remove any agency and responsibily from Ed, but it's the complete dismissal of Izzy's own psychological trauma and clear mental illness.

Like, we see all these people forgiving Ed's behavior toward Izzy and the rest of the crew because "Well, he is mentally ill and he was deeply hurt by Izzy" (while also ignoring any hurt that Stede may have caused, mind you).

But then how come these people don't see Izzy lashing out as a result of his own pain and anguish because of his own feelings of abandoment, insecurities, and loss of purpose in life?

Ed is allowed to maim his First Mate, threaten the crew with guns, psychologically torment them, put them at the frontline of dangerous raids, force them to fight to the death, and put them at the mercy of a deadly storm, indirectly killing many of them including Ivan because his feelings were hurt, but Izzy? Oh no no no, Izzy isn't allowed to have any hurt feelings. Any lashing out he does is purely because he is an evil guy and that's all there is to it.

Like, where is the sympathy folks? Why the double standards? Why are you people like this?

I mean look, at the end of the day you can dislike a character. That's fine. But at the very least try to understand that a lot of us are contextualizing Izzy's behavior as a result of his own mental struggles. Yes, he was fucked up for trying to kill Stede 3 times (Once with the fuckery, once during the duel, and once with the Navy) because he thought that's what Blackbeard wanted and he's a dumbass for not realizing he was wrong sooner. Yes, he was also fucked up because he bullied Ed when Ed was not doing well at all (And yeah, I have already written a meta explaining why I don't believe Ed was "healing just fine" in ep 10. You can read it here.)

However, at the end of the day, just as I can understand Ed's bad behavior because he is clearly very mentally ill and he doesn't yet have the right support systems to cope, I can also understand Izzy's bad behavior in S1, and how he too was suffering while everyone belittled him instead of giving him any sort of support. In fact, don't you all find it even a little interesting that Izzy starts behaving better AFTER he is shown kindness and support from the crew for the first time?

Like, c'mon people. I'm so fucking tired of this conversation. I know some of you will never be convinced, but at the very least try to understand where we are coming from. Thanks.

This is no way to treat your pet Izzy >:( Even with rescues, this is unacceptable!

How many times- Do people not know?!!? FR?! So. For the last time: Izzies are social animals. SOCIAL. They thrive when being included in daily activities with their humans. Why is this one not being fed while their adoptive family is eating?! This is severely damaging to the Izzy, it's actually borderline neglect. I get that they adopted it, that's very nice of them, but it doesn't excuse neglecting it!

And also why is it not covered with a blankie? Or a towel at least? It is showing severe signs of the being cold. They have to be kept warm at all times, especially when injured, because their tiny bodies do NOT handle cold well!! Do you not have common sense?!?!?

The owner has clearly been terrible to this poor Izzy and you mean to tell me that now the neglect is just going to continue?! Shame on you. Shame. On. YOU.
