Eddie doesn’t bullshit around. It’s one of Steve’s favorite things about him. He exaggerates and aggravates, but he doesn’t dress up as someone else; sticks to his convictions, bends when he needs to. And when Steve pushes, Eddie isn’t afraid to push back.
Steve bitches and Eddie answers with a joke. Steve listens to his favorite station, Eddie flicks the dial to his own. A flirty smile for a pet name Steve pretends to hate.
Steve kisses him, Eddie kisses back harder. Grips at Eddie’s waist while ringed fingers twist into his hair. Pushes Eddie flat on his back, then Eddie pushes him into a seated position instead.
Steve doesn’t mind. Another one of his favorite things about Eddie is the way he looks climbing into his lap—determined, smug, unnecessarily contrary.
Likes it even more when he shoves Eddie’s pants down and away. Lives for the sound of his own zipper being undone. Lifts up enough for Eddie to pull denim tight around his thighs.
And when Eddie works himself open, Steve knocks his hand away and does it for him, baring his neck for Eddie to bite at in retaliation.
At this point, it’s usually less of a push and more of a give and take. A dance they’ve mastered.
Steve tears Eddie’s shirt off because he also likes when he gets Eddie to dress down, especially to nothing, and Eddie grinds on Steve’s fingers until his eyes blacken.
Steve sinks into him and he can’t think about much else after that. Only focuses on Eddie’s desperate moans, the way his fingers curl into his shirt, the privilege of seeing him bounce up and down. Feels nothing but tight silky heat, sweaty skin, and his own heart pounding with something other than exertion.
But his favorite part is right after, when Eddie kisses him softer, reminding Steve that they want each other just the same, in all the ways he almost gave up on. New ways he never knew existed.
And Steve never questions it, because Eddie never dresses up as a liar. Not when it matters like this.

i feel like i see a lot of takes about Syd having feelings for Carmy as if those feelings are one sided. but those feelings are very much mutual, very much reciprocated. you’ll never be able to convince me that the man who created a Syd fancam in his head to calm himself down during a panic attack, doesn’t have feelings for the subject of said fancam. you won’t convince me that the man who followed Syd outside with a plate of food despite it being obvious that she wanted to be alone, doesn’t have feelings for the person who he brought said plate of food for. Not to mention:
“What’s goin on with you”
“Nothing”
“Sydney…”
like he doesn’t know her well enough to be doing all that and yet still. what gets me about that scene is that they really don’t know each other that well to be acting like that towards one another. yet they were comfortable enough to be vulnerable with each other.
It's my birthday and I'm being self indulgent about it.

The Bear “Pop” episode (S2x05) and the use of signs.
*so this meta is based on the assumption that The Bear is using magical realism in its story telling. Take it as seriously as your delusion can carry cos we love being delusional in here and having a marvelous time.(Yeah, Carmy! Fun. Get it?)😁
I noticed a few things upon re-watching the show for the umpteenth time. I never liked episode 5 because it was so Claire-centric and seemed very bleh but because I was still trying to be objective about it, I tried to watch it again and I couldn’t escape the way danger signs were grabbing me throughout the episode.
The abundance of red:
Red could signify passion, desire or even adventure. It could also signify danger. It took a while to get it; why I had the feeling of unease throughout the episode before (I had chalked it up to just the corny dialogue and cringe dramatics), now I strongly believe it was intentionally shot in the way it was, both the cinematography and dialogue to create that effect within the viewer (hypothetically, of course, one can’t be entirely sure).
The use of red flagging:
-At the beginning red tapings are shown throughout the restaurant as part of the renovations.
-We see Carmy trying to get a hang of the mechanics of the prep markings and never making time on it much to his frustration. He is repeatedly shown against a red backdrop. This already sets up the idea that Carmy might be in danger of some sort.
- Uncle Jimmy comes in and takes over the background. We would later discover along the show (season 3) that he’s having money problems- basically going broke.
-They show Carmy tearing down a red barrier to gain access, which might be indicative that he isn’t reading the signs. Later he calls Claire, despite showing signs of feeling discomfort about it. This feeds the major progression of the episode.
-After a lackluster errand posting mail with Claire, They attend a party (I’m not even going to go into the cringe/disturbing segue into the party invitation, just focusing on the use of signs). Once, they get into the venue there is an unmistakable abundance of red- from the cups, bowls and various containers to the decorations- it’s just glaring red.
-Also before the party scene, we see Nat breaking the news to Syd that Carm has been hanging out with Claire and there’s red peppered throughout Nat’s background and she’s wearing a red inner top.
-His misery at that party is palpable as well but we won’t focus on that. Neither will we focus on the recoil inducing Logan saga. When Carm and Claire have their (romantic?) aside they are enveloped in a sea of red.
-Carm invites Claire to the restaurant and even there she is constantly against a red sign. She meets Syd and both of them immediately seem to be placed in a conflicting position as Syd is irked about Carmy abandoning his duties (and possibly also jealous). Claire is mostly flanked by a red sign, Syd is shown against an orange backdrop (orange could signify optimism, happiness, etc).
Syd leaves soon after.
-While Carmy and Claire are hanging out in the restaurant, Claire asks “What’s with all the green?” She doesn’t notice the red tapes and plasters but she wonders about the greens, which basically indicate the things he actually needs to be working at, at that time and in general green is also associated with growth, progress, etc. On the whiteboard, “carm/syd menu review” is written and circled in green.
While showing her around, he explains that ideally the prep should pass from station to station in five seconds and she comments that it’s fast. Carmy agrees “we’re very fast”, which seems to be a double entendre signifying that the relationship is moving too fast.
-Fak interrupts them as they try to kiss. He goes to send Fak away and when he turns to rejoin Claire, she is seen framed in taping, in what looks like a red question mark with the clock in view. ?! This is the first thing I had noticed and what made me re-watch the episode more closely.
Then I found this bone chilling clue:
This had been one of my personal worst part of the episode and seemed like a complete waste of scene- until it didn’t !!
While going into the house hosting the party, they are accosted by a weirdo who calls Carmy “bro” and claims to have been in the same wrestling team as him. Carmy doesn’t even recognize him. He then asks Carmy,
“What are you doing?”
Not, what are you doing here? Not, where have you been?
WHAT ARE YOU DOING????
And it sounds spookily like an accusation, a plea, a warning: A message.
Carmy is making a mistake! Maybe the mistake is the person, maybe the timing, maybe the approach. But Carmy in that moment is making a mistake.
We’ll see in consequent episodes that Carmy is quite spiritual. That whenever he looks up he actually is sending a prayer. He was actually the only one who took the “our mother of victory prayer” seriously, whereas it was more tongue-in-cheek for his other siblings. So maybe he was receiving a message from his higher power, or maybe from Michael, even(bro).
But in true Carmy fashion, he just wouldn’t listen!

@steddie-spooktober day 4: corn maze | G | wc: 1,147
uhhh i know i'm the one who came up with the corn maze prompt.. but hay bales suited this story better 🧍♀️
“Okay, this is getting ridiculous. Where the hell is that kid?”
“Probably back there where I said we should’ve gone left.”
“You go find him then if—” Steve cuts himself off when he comes face to face with another dead end. The stack of hay bales mock him. “Alright. You know what, fine. I give up.”
“You give up.”
“I give up.” Steve plops down onto a pile of stray straw at the base of the five-bale-tall wall.
“That’s not the Harrington I know.” Eddie says, a smirk in his voice.
“Yeah, well, if this was a corn maze like they normally have every year, I’d just walk through the walls to the center. But no. They just had to have a crazy amount of hay this year, didn’t they?”
Eddie laughs at him, the bastard. Steve takes a second to glare furiously at him. It’s almost enough to kill off the unforeseen crush he’d developed on their newest party member, but even now, Eddie’s frustrating and frustratingly good looking.
The cold has brought some prickles of pink to his cheeks, the wind that would flood down on them whenever they’d turned down a parallel leg of the maze having done wonders to his hair, the exasperated smile he’s currently sporting.. Damn him and damn his pretty.. everything.
“Who would’ve thought that Captain of every team he’s on Harrington would only ever be a bad sport when it comes to harmless, family fun mazes.”
“...I’m not directionally gifted. Shut up.”
“Do you want me to take the lead, or do you actually want me to leave you here in the dirt?” Eddie holds out a hand for him to take.
Steve has no choice but to take it.
“Damn, your hands are cold!” Eddie says, pulling him up, “Alright sweetheart, you hang onto that, and I’ll get us out of here.”
Some of the heat that Steve could have routed down to his hand floods into his face instead.
Eddie stands still, almost frozen, for a few seconds, then says, “Right.” and starts pulling Steve along the way they came.
One right, two lefts, and one more right after that, and they break into the large, sunny center of the maze.
“Surprise!!” The entire rest of the party is there already, waiting for them with grins on their faces. “Happy Birthday Steve!"
He has to fight the urge to pinch at the bridge of his nose as the group surge forward toward them.
“We got you a birthday doughnut!” Robin says, holding up a small paper plate with a sugar-crusted doughnut on it; a single candle is wedged into a glazed doughnut hole that’s been smushed into the center of the other. The flame gets gusted out by the wind as she passes it to him. “Whoops..”
“I brought a canteen full of hot cider!”
“There are presents too, ours was Mike’s idea.” El’s comment surprises him, and Mike is already looking away from him pointedly when he glances over at him.
“The maze thing was Eddie’s idea!”
“Hey, the whole thing was Eddie’s idea, Henderson. Give him some credit.” Eddie says, pointing accusingly at Dustin.
Steve turns to raise an eyebrow at Eddie.
“How was I supposed to know that mazes are the one thing you’re bad at?” he says in a mock affronted tone.
Everyone laughs, and are soon piping up to tell their own stories of trying to get through from the other side.
“Dustin got all claustrophobic like, two minutes in, and it actually made him get through it faster.” Mike teases, poking Dustin in the side.
“I wish it was corn like last year, I would’ve gotten through in half the time.” Lucas grouses. (“That’s what I said!” Steve says, gesturing heartily at Lucas.)
“Me, Max, and Erica were the first ones through, it was so easy.” Robin says, “I thought we’d have to eat all the doughnuts to survive.”
They hang out in the center for a while, and it isn’t until he goes to reach for another pumpkin spice doughnut, pulling his hand from Eddie’s to do so, that he realizes Eddie was still holding his hand, thumb running idly back and forth across his knuckles the whole time.
Maybe Steve’s not the only one with a crush after all…
“Alright, ready Eddie?” Steve says once all the baked goods are gone and the presents (a sweater from the boys, a mini leather bound journal from Robin, a hefty handful of new pins for his work vest from the girls, and a new walkman from Hopper and Joyce) are packed away back into Will’s backpack. He stands up and starts doing some useless stretches, his arms, his calves, jogging in place.
“For what?! Are we running a marathon next? ‘Cause I gotta tell you Stevie, I may do a lot of running, but that doesn’t mean I’m good at it.”
“Nope, for my redemption arc. I’m leading us back out. And I won’t get lost this time.”
“Sure you won’t, Dingus.” Robin says, standing too and grabbing their trash. “See you boys on the other side.”
The party all tear out at the same time, splitting in half and timing their exits to go back through opposite sides, something about the winning half getting some sort of prize. Hopper and Joyce similarly split, a dinner date on the line for the winner.
“Alright Munson. Eyes closed, hand out.” Steve says once they reach the break in the wall too.
“Ooh, bossy. I like that.” he says, smirking at the eye roll Steve gives him as he squashes his eyelids shut.
Steve’s cold-ass fingers lace through his, not at all the platonic grip he’d had on Steve’s the last time.
They turn and weave and wind through the walls, and soon, as the drone of the crowds filter out, Eddie can tell Steve’s gotten them lost once again.
“There. Think this is good enough.” Steve murmurs, and before Eddie can ask what he means by that, Steve has pulled him sharply around, spinning him and pressing him back into the prickly wall of hay.
Eddie’s eyes fly open in surprise when his back hits the bales, but closes them again in the next second when Steve’s lips connect with his.
Funnily enough, they’re warmer than Eddie’s, and the press of them makes his stomach swoop almost violently.
Too soon, way too soon, Steve is pulling back. “You planned a surprise for me.” he breathes.
“Robin helped.” Eddie breathes dumbly in return.
Steve snorts, pushing closer to him, “I’m going to kiss you again.”
“Uh huh.”
He leans closer, gaze hooded. “That okay?”
“More than.”
Steve tastes like cinnamon sugar, and suddenly it’s the best flavor in the world.
(“Okay, you can lead us back out now.” Steve says, after ten minutes spent warming his hands on the skin of Eddie’s torso.)
