thinking about steve harrington who loves being in relationships, who loves to proudly show off the person he loves, who loves being in love finally starting to date eddie munson. eddie, who has no prior experience when it comes to dating, let alone kissing or even knowing what to do with the butterflies in his stomach.

steve knows he should take things slow to ease eddie into the whole relationship thing, thinking maybe he shouldn't be his normal, clingy self just to show the world how happy eddie makes him. maybe he shouldn't wrap an arm around eddie's shoulder every time they sit next to each other, maybe he shouldn't keep a hand on top of eddie's knee when he drives but he's never been able to keep his hands to himself when he's dating someone and he doesn't want to start now.

eddie gives the greenest light possible when he can tell that steve is holding himself back because he wants the full 'dating steve harrington’ experience. he laughs when steve pouts at him because he wants to hold his hand but doesn't think he should and laces their fingers together himself. he nudges his shoulder into steve’s when they stand next to one another, holds onto his wrist when steve curls his arm around his waist.

his favorite thing is when steve gets a little too excited to show him off. eddie loves when steve pushes up behind him and grabs him tightly, noses into his curls and glares at anyone who makes fake gagging noises at the sight. he especially loves when steve pulls him close for just one more kiss goodbye that ends up being at least three more with a firm hand on the back of his neck until robin is literally pulling them apart.

the best thing though is a little more quiet, a little more just for them until it's very much not. steve will trace his fingertips over the spots he leaves behind on eddie's neck, follows his hands with his lips, open mouth kisses soothing the bites and bruises he intentionally left. and sure, eddie will get tired of the questions and the eye rolls and the looks of disgust at the mess steve made of him but in the end, having everyone know he's steve's is worth any shit they get.

don’t get me wrong, i love the idea of eddie always having a crush on ‘king steve’ since middle school or high school, but i also like the idea of steve always having an interest in eddie. eddie, who is this odd mix of quiet and nervous but also loud and obnoxious. and steve knows eddie probably doesn’t care about him at all, his reputation isn’t exactly kind, and of course jocks/preps aren’t eddie’s type. but despite that steve always notices eddie in the hall, he goes to see the productions eddie is in (yeah eddie is a theatre kid, no doubt about it, especially in like middle school), and steve sits in the back and stares. he notices when eddie comes to school looking upset, or when he gets his hair trimmed, or when he starts wearing his hellfire shirt.

steve can’t help but notice this boy who seems to try and keep a tough guy exterior but who really is soft. his eyes look soft, his hair looks soft, his lips look soft.
