what a joyous moment
“Did this woman just claim that her dog was racist?” I actually laughed out loud at this, because it’s so ridiculous, and I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what happened.
Sounds like just a temperament thing. I feel like it’s more likely the dog didn’t like puppies. Maybe it sensed that Ginko will be bigger, someday. I don’t know. Not that it’s not okay for a dog to not like other dogs, but... why bring them to a dog park?
He doesn't like "Asian dogs"
Tried a new dog park with Ginko today. Him still being a young puppy, we brought him into the 25 lbs and under section, where a small cluster of old ladies and their dachshunds and terrier mixes were hanging out.
Two or three of the small dogs set upon poor Ginko instantly, showing no signs of playfulness and loudly wailing their heads off. He was upset and I scooped him up and out of danger. The pack of small dogs was still baring their teeth and obsessively barking and lunging at my puppy. Ginko may be young, but he’s socialized often and has respectable manners for his age. These dogs lost it at the sight of him.
“Oh, he doesn’t like Asian dogs”. Is what the dachshund’s owner tried to give as an excuse, claiming that his erect ears and tail were a sign of dominance that upset other dogs. She made a few more comments about Japanese this and that before we left and had a much better time in the large dog park.
Did this woman just claim that her dog was racist, or is there some validity to what she said? It sounded like a bunch of hokey to me, especially as we continued to watch that pack of small dogs lose their minds when any unfamiliar animal came within 15 feet of them.
