Happy year that is new! Happy 24th year yeaaa! Happy year! Marry years!
First time I have ever done a year art summary. Until 2023 I just never had the mental strength, drive, medication or time to draw the way I do now. Not that I have many of these today but getting into worldbuilding and spec bio really helped me because I can draw whatever I want.
I can draw character art, thematic art, story art, biology art, explanation art, creature concept art, culture art.............
And all in the little neat package of one universe I get to care for.
Thank you for all the positive attention and happy moments. I also thank you a lot for 1500 followers. Sorry I didn't have time to celebrate the number yet. I'm so grateful.
I hope 2024 can be like this again. Love yall.

I'm sorry for being so inactive.
I'm sick AGAIN

I was thinking about what features my pebble interpretation would have and I decided to do something more literal with the "both machine and organism". I'm thinking the puppet wouldn't have as hard of a time exiting the cycle if it was fully mechanical.
So anyway, "jello-coated" skeleton with blood and fuel tubes. This is not exactly what I imagined, it's more on the abstract side. But the pebble should be a little translucent.
I've been wondering - what are the tiny arms on the slomen?

The limbs on the sloman back are somewhat vestigial since they are not necessarily but most will still use them for their intended purpose in some way.
The "chicken wings" are often attractive to slomen as they help with childcare. Having strong or flexible mid limbs can make expanding family easier (you don't have to buy carry-bags).
Men will carry the meat eggs (external womb) before it hatches. After that the women often take the main role in nurturing the slims, since they are the ones with "crop pouches" full of milk-like substance.
The chicks get tired easily so even after hatching, the wings will find use for carrying.
On top of that, women grow long textured feathers on their wings, very attractive.
Some cultures don't allow showing wings or chest pouches while others don't care or they have it status based.
The colors on the picture aren't realistic and are more meant to differentiate sections of the characters. Real meat eggs are darker and have feathers of the parent's color.

An elder master performing one of many forms of a silent wing dance. The goal of this show is to appeal to the eyes alone, using movement and colors - making too much sound is seen as a failure in this specific style.
Some of the silent dances might try to confuse the watcher with fabric appearing as other body parts or wing flags that cover most of the performer. With uniiman arts, there are really too many variants to cover as their whole deal is to compete and innovate (but most often can still be categorized).
To some, the silent dance is more artistic than the loud one while others find it lazy not to play music with the body. It really is a question of taste.
Based on the crest drawings of this uniima it seems their show's purpose is to find 3 partners and create three lives. This however isn't because their dance or outfit is sexual, it is simply a show of skill with an additional message.

After her crew escapes further conflict with the trickster ship, Maaj retreats to the deckhouse to try comfort the creature she took from the possibly-pirates.
While Maaj has only ever seen uniima in art, she believes it is up to her to protect this perhaps sapient being and take it to land. Why else would the gods leave this child to her?
The rest of the crew, including her partner Lteny, don't think a barely moving enigma is worth the jolly boat or risking their lives.
But behind the harsh words, Lte wants to protect Maaj from the pain the creature will cause with its inevitable death. She knows how desperate Maaj is to be a mother. It's better to end things before she sees it as her own. That can never happen.
"Its face and body are solid. It will look the same awake, asleep, and dead."
