Second anon here not the first, different person. I sent my ask because what I saw was not the same as what you said. I have no idea why they called you racist themselves. but the show does not let your headcanon every character as any race? The show is set in China, the charactes are all Chinese. Macaque and Wukong are Chinese legends. Making them specifically any other race feels wrong. There are are dark skinned people in China who are only Chinese and no other race, like Macaque is in his human form, who get mocked and "fixed" with skin lightening all the time. Colorism is a real problem in all of Asia. Not saying artists should be harassed, harassing people is definitely bad, but defending an artist who did something racist with "I don't understand the problem, be kinder" might make it look like you're defending whitewashing because people put the fact someone did something wrong over the artists feelings being hurt most of the time. Saying something like "I get this is a problem but you need to explain why in a way they will understand for them to listen" might have sounded better.

I've heard of the issues with white washing across Asia and I understand it is a big issue, but perhaps I need more education on the subject.

I most probably should have written out what I meant much more clearly than what I did, no excuses on my part there and I will try and do better.

However I still think that the depictions of these charters with IRL features can and really would feel more natural if they were more diverse. Does that sound better.

I don't know if you have ever been to a large city, but the ones I've been in are a cacophony or races and culture no one is the same and it's amazing.

They are often places where the world collides. Hence why I don't have much of an issue with mixing things up that way.

If changing the races of the main characters makes other people uncomfortable then I'm sorry, I never wanted to make people uncomfortable. But why not change it up for the background characters and oc's.

Wouldn't it be so interesting to see the culture of Chinese mythology interact with other mythology from other cultures.

I DON'T agree with Any form of race washing, and I don't agree that aggravated confrontation is the answer to fix these things.
