i think y/n gets along with both of the girls really well,, but at the end of the day, y/n and tatum click more

idk why but i've always seen tatum as the kind of high school girl that acts really mature/cool at school/around friends she's not super close with, but when alone or in smaller social settings, she'll embrace things that seem a little younger/"cringy"

not anything crazy, but in small fun ways, like maybe tatum still subscribes to some tween magazines and keeps stuffed animals on her bed,, also could see her being the kind of girl that says she stopped playing with barbies long before she actually did lol

and i see y/n being similar in the sense that she likes the excuse to embrace those things (in private),, they definitely have sleepovers where they watch teen/tween romcoms their other friends would make fun of and listen to mainstream pop

also this might sound weird, but i think tatum would also remind y/n a little bit of her mom so that would subconsciously make her feel closer to tatum

i wouldn't say y/n and sidney's friendship is less, it's just a different vibe, i feel like they'd have a similar sense of humor and bond over only having one parent in their lives (even though y/n's situation with her dad is different than sid's mom dying)

ik i’m in the minority here haha but i see reader not coming from the biggest amount of money — maybe with reader’s parents working in hotels she grew up with some but once her dad leaves for another woman/son he also takes a lot of the money with him, really fuelling felix’s saviour complex?????

no i see this!! i was actually thinking of something along these lines to add some tension!! giving reader's dad financial control could explain why reader hasn't cut him off yet (bc he helps pay for the part of school scholarships can't),, and it could add into the 'one foot in, one foot out' thing bc it's more like she's been around wealth than her being wealthy

i do think reader would very actively go out of her way to try to keep from playing into felix's savior complex tho!!

part of the reason they're so close and why felix isn't 100% sure reader would say yes if he asked her out is bc reader is the only one that doesn't perform for him in any way,,

that's where the trust comes from, reader doesn't pretend or try to portray herself in a way that she thinks he'd like bc she genuinely doesn't want anything from him except friendship and felix embraces and reciprocates it <3

also reader knows him so well and i feel like some of his friends (probably farleigh 😭) would bring up his pension for latching onto someone who needs help early on into their friendship in order to be snarky/maybe make reader insecure

reader would be so focused on trying to not become something for felix to 'fix',, it'd turn into a little bit of a reverse oliver situation,, first real fight is probably felix finding out how bad reader's dad is lmao

especially for woc that grow darker/fuller hair!! i still obsessively shave bc of things one girl said in middle school😭

I think there’s something sad about the guaranteed ‘you should get laser hair removal it changed my life’ comment on any video where a girl has body hair and the body hair is not the point of the video. first because it’s usually very unsolicited even if it comes from a well meaning place (there’s nothing shameful in being upset by the stigma surrounding body hair and so doing hair removal in an effort to escape it, but not sure if we should automatically suggest how to get rid of it to others unless they’re asking), but more importantly because a girl without her tummy hair is like an angel without wings

what do you guys picture as bestfriend!reader's family/financial background as??

some ideas i've been thinking about and some things i'm sure about below the cut!!

some ideas for reader's background:

i originally had the idea to make her upper/upper middle class bc her dad's side of the family is known in politics, i was originally going to have her invited to saltburn bc he asks her not to come home for the summer bc she's part of his pre-divorce family and bc he has a new family and is campaigning to be a senator, he doesn't want her around to remind voters of his first family

also could see her family being into hotels (how iconic would it be if bestfriend!reader was lifelong friends with paris hilton)

i can also picture her as being a lot less financially comfortable than this though,, maybe similar to the background that oliver lied about??

or just comfortable enough to be average, never really worried about her family's ability to provide their next meal or pay off the electric bill or provide necessities, but not room for much else

Some things I feel really sure about:

i picture reader as having lived with their mom full time before college, and i see their mom as a cardiovascular surgeon that works for doctors without boarders from time to time,, which is part of the reason reader has no one to go home to over the summer

no matter what, felix’s wealth is still really shocking/impressive to her

reader definitely has some issues with her dad bc he finally had the son he always wanted after remarrying,, this feeds into felix's savior complex a little 😭

anyways these are some general ideas i had, but i'm open to hearing any ideas on this topic, i'm starting to delve into bestfriend!reader lore as i work on a full length fic :)

hm. good question bc i really had to think about this bc if anyone can get away with platonically kissing someone it's 110% felix, and it does feel in character

i was on the fence until i remembered that the first (and only) guy i dated started off as a really good friend and before dating we'd kiss at parties and laugh it off the next day bc of the alcohol/atmosphere so it's very much realistic bc i did not notice for an entire semester😭

so let's discuss!!

felix would definitely hide behind the "for fun" defense by being as casual as possible with it. while out partying/drinking, he'd kiss reader so briefly the reader can barely register what's happening until it's happened. also this is mainly done after a particularly good/happy moment,, maybe after you two take a shot together, with that touch of adrenaline and the sting of alcohol still lingering there. would definitely do this if he felt jealous/saw someone checking out reader.

now, if we're talking actual, more intentional kisses that are harder to explain away....i think these are a definitely a lot rarer, but for sure have happened.

still uses the "for fun" argument if it's a party thing, like if everyone's kissing someone (like a NYE kiss) or it's bc of some party game, then he's lingering/being touchier than usual bc he can get away with it.

also not to take this a step further and make it even more difficult to justify, but i think there's a level of intimacy to it bc felix is so touchy/open with everyone, that eventually the only way to be particularly close to someone is to do more.

so,, and this is definitely the rarest type of kiss ( like it's happened at most 2-3 times) after drinking/smoking together, felix will kiss reader when they're completely alone, with no one to blame or goad you on or interrupt. these are slow and heavy. concentrated.

there's always an emotional component,, maybe reader had been poorly trying to hide their mood because felix had been a little too into being admired recently. or maybe felix feels left out about something and needs to find a way to feel even closer to reader.

after felix is definitely being more open than he usual is, telling you things like "i trust you more than i've ever trusted anyone, you know that right?" and "it's just you and me."

the first time this happened is the first time reader has a oh my god?? do i actually have a thing for felix? moment,, and after felix finally falls asleep, reader freaks out bc what if what happened ruined your friendship?

but then the next morning comes and it's like nothing happened, he doesn't even do that guy thing where they ignore you the next day, it's literally like nothing out of the ordinary happened and out of instinct, reader follows felix's lead

then reader convinces themselves that it's not that weird by telling themselves that felix has probably at least kissed most of the people that are around him for long enough which is kind of true and you know several people that he still hangs out with that he hooks up with on and off,,

so, with the amount of time you spend together,, it isn't strange. not when you know felix the way reader does.
