i think y/n gets along with both of the girls really well,, but at the end of the day, y/n and tatum click more

idk why but i've always seen tatum as the kind of high school girl that acts really mature/cool at school/around friends she's not super close with, but when alone or in smaller social settings, she'll embrace things that seem a little younger/"cringy"

not anything crazy, but in small fun ways, like maybe tatum still subscribes to some tween magazines and keeps stuffed animals on her bed,, also could see her being the kind of girl that says she stopped playing with barbies long before she actually did lol

and i see y/n being similar in the sense that she likes the excuse to embrace those things (in private),, they definitely have sleepovers where they watch teen/tween romcoms their other friends would make fun of and listen to mainstream pop

also this might sound weird, but i think tatum would also remind y/n a little bit of her mom so that would subconsciously make her feel closer to tatum

i wouldn't say y/n and sidney's friendship is less, it's just a different vibe, i feel like they'd have a similar sense of humor and bond over only having one parent in their lives (even though y/n's situation with her dad is different than sid's mom dying)

what do you guys picture as bestfriend!reader's family/financial background as??

some ideas i've been thinking about and some things i'm sure about below the cut!!

some ideas for reader's background:

i originally had the idea to make her upper/upper middle class bc her dad's side of the family is known in politics, i was originally going to have her invited to saltburn bc he asks her not to come home for the summer bc she's part of his pre-divorce family and bc he has a new family and is campaigning to be a senator, he doesn't want her around to remind voters of his first family

also could see her family being into hotels (how iconic would it be if bestfriend!reader was lifelong friends with paris hilton)

i can also picture her as being a lot less financially comfortable than this though,, maybe similar to the background that oliver lied about??

or just comfortable enough to be average, never really worried about her family's ability to provide their next meal or pay off the electric bill or provide necessities, but not room for much else

Some things I feel really sure about:

i picture reader as having lived with their mom full time before college, and i see their mom as a cardiovascular surgeon that works for doctors without boarders from time to time,, which is part of the reason reader has no one to go home to over the summer

no matter what, felix’s wealth is still really shocking/impressive to her

reader definitely has some issues with her dad bc he finally had the son he always wanted after remarrying,, this feeds into felix's savior complex a little 😭

anyways these are some general ideas i had, but i'm open to hearing any ideas on this topic, i'm starting to delve into bestfriend!reader lore as i work on a full length fic :)

he is the modern equivalent of the high school movie trope of a nerdy girl that’s trying to win over the popular guy so they lose their glasses during a makeover scene

also would not be surprised to find out he was also lying about needing glasses just bc 😭

As a glasses wearer myself I wonder if Olivers' prescription isn't that strong so he could see without glasses or did he went out and buy contact lenses so he would looker cooler for his bf

But also the more entertaining option is that he's just blind as fuck through the entire film and he sees felix like this.

Regarding the latest Saltburn post, reader gives off Holmes vibes. Like, yeah, somewhat upper-middle in finances, but in influence and power (Mycroft), her family is loaded hahahhaha

i love this!! i think this is a great scenario that lets reader have a relatively 'normal' life,, but still have some 'rich' family/almost nepo baby experiences

like i can see her dad having worked with influential/wealthy people over the years so they have a lot of connections,, but bc reader kind of only has one foot in that world, she doesn't mention it bc it'd feel forced

which can definitely lead to moments like felix noticing a picture of her and someone like paris hilton in her dorm and being like rue when was this

this also fits the way i see reader, which is as someone that's kind of an underdog (especially when compared to felix and his friends/family),, but also has a lot going for her that she doesn't always pick up on,,

not in 'poor me' pick me way,, but in a way that connects back to her being so book smart her emotional/social smartness kind of takes a hit?? if that makes sense 😭 it's subtle,,

(that 'underdog mentality' is the personality trait that is at the core of her conflict/dynamic with oliver btw!! i have so many thoughts on the way they're going to interact from a psychological standpoint anddd it ties back to felix,, but that is for another day)

my dad hearing my mom’s voice on my phone and taking that as an opportunity to cuss her out and giving me flash backs to being a little kid hiding in my room during his angry episodes ✨😌
