Okay, so I just started reading snuff (the discworld novel), and I just came across the point where Sybil explains to vimes why the reason there's professional distance between house workers and the people they work for is that before that was a thing, rich men used to abuse their position to behave super inappropriately towards the women they employed to work in their homes, and I was just like... Couldn't pick a worse time to read this, could I? Or maybe better, who knows

Honestly, the fact that people on this platform will be more likely to assume you're a terrible person if you identify as a libertarian or a proshipper than if you choose to turn down treatment for mental illness that takes a toll on everyone else in your life actually really sucks. Because statistically, you aren't. The fact that you picked an unpopular side in some culture war doesn't tell us much about how much you care about other people, at least not as much as it does to explicitly, intentionally choose your own autonomy over their well being. I'm not saying it makes you a bad person, but it is an indicator, and a bigger one at that than most of the stupid shit people call you a bad person for on this platform.

So... Just watched inside out 2 in the theaters. Where's the fanfic in which ennui one day decides to suck out all the control out of the other emotions' control board, doesn't allow them to touch Riley, because under ennui's control, there's no more energy left for any other emotion, and she's not willing to give the control up, and so she locks herself in an impenetrable bubble and makes Riley constantly exhausted and unfeeling to the point of misery, until the place where she brought Riley into makes the bubble impossible, even for her, to unlock?

"this term was invented by a bigot, stop using it" can we please STOP tracking everything in our society back to its origin and after finding out the origin is horrible, declaring the thing itself horrible? Like, no, the person on the street using a term that you can trace back to the abuse of minorities has NOTHING TO DO with those origins, and no, they will still not have anything to do with it if they keep using language as it exists today instead of digging through historical anecdotes all day long to determine what language people can and cannot use. If there's not enough connection nowadays between the cultural context around a term and the one it had when it originated to have practical meaning, just... Stop being an asshole to people about it. I'm not saying stop analyzing how language interacts with culture, just PLEASE stop acting like that principle is a rule of morality you get to enforce on other people.
