A Heartfelt Confession

Dwayne Hoover x Reader

I might end up extending off of this but here’s a little one shot for @riddleklitz

Dwayne wasn’t an overly affectionate person but for some reason when he was around you, he always found himself subconsciously moving closer. Maybe it’s because you meant so much to him and he was afraid you’d be ripped away. Just like his other dreams. But that’s all it was. A dream. You're his best friend and you’d never see him as anything else.

“Earth to Dwayneeee” you say waving your hand in front of his face.

“Sorry y/n. I guess I sorta spaced.” he says with an unreadable expression on his face.

“What were you thinking about? That girl in history class?”

He turns to you in confusion.

“Huh, what girl?”

“The one who sits in front of you. I thought you had a crush on her?”

“What on earth made you come to that conclusion?”

You start explaining your reasoning but he can’t even hear you anymore. He’s getting worked up now. How would he ever have a chance with you if you thought he liked someone else. He thought he was being obvious enough in his attraction so he had tried to dial it back so you wouldn’t be wary of him.

“Dwayne, are you okay?”

Taking a deep breath he says

“Yeah. Yeah I’m fine. I just- I don’t like her alright? I don’t even know her name. I like someone else.”

A teasing smile appears on your face, as if you have something on him now.

“Ohhh you do huh? Well spill it, who are they? What’s their name?” you say in a playful tone as you nudge his arm.

“Oh god here we go. This is why I don't talk about this kinda stuff.”

“Come on please tell me. I promise not to make fun.”

“I can’t tell you, I don’t want anyone to know. It would ruin everything.”

You start pestering him nonstop. You have to know who it is. It has to be someone amazing to have captured his interest. He’s starting to lose his patience.

“IT’S YOU OKAY, YOU’RE THE ONE I HAVE FEELINGS FOR!”

You sit there in shock at his outburst. He sighs and looks away, blushing and unable to maintain eye contact.

“I didn’t want to tell you because I didn’t want to lose you. I still don’t. So just pretend I never said anything and we can go back to normal.” His voice is so soft you barely hear what he says.

“Dwayne. Please look at me.”

He slowly turns his head, still apprehensive.

“I wish you would’ve said something sooner. It would’ve saved us both from so much torment”

“What do you mean?”

“I like you too Dwayne.”

A smile slowly spreads across his face. Maybe this was one dream he could keep.

chapter 2

When Nancy first sees the new girl, she’s immediately intrigued. She carry’s herself so confidently despite being surrounded by the different personalities that make up Hawkins. It’s when she asks her for a “new student” interview for the paper, that she talks to her for the first time.

Erin’s stood by her locker when she lays eyes on one of the most gorgeous girls she will probably ever see. She’s wearing a white button up with a vest over top, paired with a pink belt and colorful skirt. Proper prep. Then suddenly that same girl is walking towards her.

“Hi there! You’re the new girl right? I’m Nancy Wheeler. I’m with the school paper and was wondering if I could maybe interview you for a little blurb?” she said with what she hoped was a welcoming smile.

“You wanna interview me? Is this town really that boring that you wanna write about me?” she points to herself in disbelief, laughing at the ridiculousness.

Nancy looks a bit unsure of herself now, but continues on, determined to get that interview.

“I mean if you don’t want to do it that’s totally fine, but from what i’ve observed you seem pretty interesting. Well, I suppose maybe I just wanted to get to know you better.”

“Oh yeah?” she answers smirking down at her.

Nancy is looking up at her, cheeks growing hot. She’s not embarrassed. She doesn’t feel embarrassed. So why is she getting so worked up just from that. The way she said it. The way she had looked when she said it. Fingers snap in front of her face, knocking her out of her trance.

“Huh, what?”

“I said sure, i’ll do it.”

“Do what?”

“Uh… the interview? The reason you walked over here?”

Realization hits. “Oh! Ha that’s right! So when did you uh wanna meet up for that? The interview I mean.” God she sounds like a bumbling idiot.

“You can come over to mine after school if you’re free. Here’s the address.” She hastily scribbles it on a scrap piece of paper from the bottom of her locker before handing it over with a wide smile.

Nancy grabs for it, accidentally brushing their fingers against each other, causing the pair to blush. She awkwardly turns away on her heels before turning back.

“Wait, I totally forgot to ask for your name”

“It’s Erin.”

“Erin. I’ll see you after school, Erin.”

“I’ll see you.” They both turn away from each other then. Unaware that they’re both smiling, counting down the minutes until they meet again.
