First-aid kit prepped and ready on the dining table, you moved to stand in between Chan’s thighs. You grabbed his face in your hands for a better look at him, inspecting the cuts that littered his handsome face. Chan took the opportunity to nuzzle his face into your warm hands, his own finding their way to your waist. You clicked your tongue in disapproval, turning to pick up cotton balls instead.
“Hold still. This might hurt.”
You felt the way Chan’s arm tensed up at your cold words. Sighing, you cleaned away his wounds, ridding them of dirt and bandaging them up.
Chan’s attempts to sit still on the chair failed miserably. He tried to focus on the way your nose scrunched up in concentration, or on your well-practised movements. ‘this shouldn’t be something you’re used to doing,’ Chan thought. A hiss escaped him as you dabbed disinfectant on a particularly large cut. Your eyes softened as you watched your boyfriend looking dazed, staring into space.
“Baby,” you called out, placing the last bandage over his cheekbone.
“Hmm?”
“What was it this time?” you rested your hands on his shoulders as you waited for his reply.
The man in question looked down sheepishly. The arms around your waist hugged you tighter, pulling you closer to him. Chan instead hid his face against your stomach – choosing not to answer instead.
“Channie.”
Silence.
“Bang Chan.”
You felt him shift in your hold.
“Christopher.” you sighed. Chan finally looked up at you. You almost giggled at how he looked like a dejected puppy, when you noticed The way his eyes glistened in tears. Your hands flew to his face, thumbing at the crinkles near his eyes. “What’s wrong?”
Chan tried to say something, but his words were muffled by your shirt. You coaxed him to repeat himself, running a hand through his hair in comfort. His grip on you tightened, hands grabbing a fistful of your shirt as he pulled you down to his lap.
“He said you were too good for me.” His voice was soft, weak; as if afraid that the words would come true. “He threatened to take you away from me,” he sniffled, “said I didn’t deserve you, that I wouldn’t take care of you as good as he did.”
You immediately knew who the he was referring to. Your ex, prideful as ever, couldn’t stand the thought of you with Chan.
“Oh, Chan,” your heart broke at the sight of your broad boyfriend hunched into a ball. “You’re the one that’s too good for me.” You planted a kiss on his nose. “You’re the best boyfriend I’ve ever had. I love you so, so much.” another kiss on the cheek. “Besides, you know how bad he treated me before. I would never go back to him, even if he was the last man alive.
That doesn’t mean you should go around getting into fights, baby,” you chided. Chan seemed to slink deeper into the chair, though you could feel his infectious energy slowly returning.
“I was defending my honour,” he whined, burying his head in your shoulder. You let out a small chuckle, wrestling yourself out of his lap.
“C’mon,” you put the first-aid kit back into its box, grabbed his hand and pulled him up, gently pushing him onto the sofa, “I’ll let you cuddle extra tonight, okay?”
“Okay.” he let your hand tug his, but his feet stayed rooted firmly to his spot.
“Channie?” you turned back, head tilted in confusion.
“I love you too.” His hand clutched yours firmly as he finally tugged you towards him. “I’m not sorry for beating him up, though.”
A small smile graced your face as you settled down with him on the sofa.
“Yeah. I know.”
