A Kind Of Spark - Tumblr Posts

I know I'm SUPER late to the party, as I usually am when it comes to consuming new media, but I have finally, finally, finally started watching A Kind of Spark, which is a new show that follows Addie Darrow and her quest to solve the mystery of the witch hunts of England and Scotland.

I am only one episode in. I definitely wish they were longer than half an hour, but at the same time, I am glad that they aren't an hour long like when I watched Peaky Blinders. Anyway, I am loving it already!

A Kind of Spark was written by Elle McNicol, who has written several other books with neurodivergent characters, and the fact that she is autistic herself and insisted on casted neurodivergent actresses to play the characters, is almost revolutionary, because positive representation of autism and other disabilities in fictional media is so few and far between.

Especially in females, who often go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed because of masking.

I highly recommend checking out Chloé Hayden on TikTok and YouTube. She can explain this sort of thing a lot better than I can.

Anyway, while I can go on a full-on rant about all the reasons why I love this series, I don't want to keep you here longer than necessary. I will probably be back with more as I continue watching Addie's journey!

But for now, I shall say goodbye.

I finally finished A Kind of Spark and I HIGHLY recommend it! I can’t tell you the times I teared up, smiled, gasped, wanted to slap my computer screen (not a good idea since I just got this one a few months ago, lol.)

I also wonder how on earth Mrs. Murphy (the teacher) is even qualified to teach children in the first place. I’m not gonna spoil it, but she made me SO MAD!

Again, I could go on and on and on about it, but while I would love a second season, I am actually happy with the way season one ended, so I’m good either way.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give this show a watch. It is amazing!

1. Yes, the swirling motion with the thumb on her palm is actually calming. I recommend. 2. I can relate to finding comfort in books or a library. In fact, my ideal date or night/day out would be to just go to a library or bookstore and just read.

3. Frank is boyfriend goals, for real.

4. I was so happy when Keedie finally got to speak her truth about what happened on that fateful day. Also, the party scene broke me.

5. Yes, Nina’s character had some rough patches, but she got through them. Rating her redemption arc a solid 10/10!

6. Really wish that Emily made peace with Addie and her sisters, and apologized for what she did. She seemed to struggle as well, but as the ‘popular girl’ everyone expected her to be little miss perfect all the time, to mask her own disability.

I'm currently watching A Kind of Spark. I absolutely love the book and it's super special to me so I'm really happy about the TV series.

These are all the things I've loved so far

Addie stimming, it just makes me feel so seen and safe whenever I see it. Lola blue plays her beautifully

Every scene in a library or place with books. The quiet just captures the beautiful feeling of stepping into that place and the fact that they aren't rushed just makes them feel exactly how I think they should and exactly how libraries make me feel as someone who's special interest is in reading

Frank. He's a legend and I love him even though he wasn't in the books

Keedie, is absolutely gorgeous and almost perfect to how I imagined her

Nina is amazing as well and the actress plays her so well even though she said it was difficult masking all the time

The scene in episode 4 with keedie and nina in the clothes shop made me quite emotional and I think it was really great even though it wasn't in the book

A neurodivergent writer and 3 neurodivergent actresses in lead roles. They've worked so hard for this show and it's beautiful to finally see it
