Merciless, chapter 5
“Hello, Spider,” she said. “My name’s Janine.”
“No offence lady but I don’t care.”
The woman, who Spider immediately noted seemed different from the others - softer, yet more confident - accepted this response with an understanding dip of her head. She took a slow step forward. In one hand she held a clipboard and the other she raised in defence, showing Spider she was unarmed. “That’s fair enough. I wouldn’t care either.” She smiled warmly, and Spider was stunned at her calmness. Everyone else baulked when they saw him, much more so when they had to come close.
He huffed. “So what are you gonna do to me this time? Is he telling the truth?” He jerked his head over to where Mercer was still watching from the other side of the glass.
