Allie didn’t consider herself an ‘old soul’ but the more she talked to those older than herself, the more it became apparently clear that she fit in with a different generation. That’s how she often found herself lost in the aisle of old bookstores or, days like today, dragging those close to her to the vinyl store. It was cathartic, lying down on the ground while her record player spun, the tunes of Fleetwood Mac or Zeppelin filling her home. If she could get one of her friends to come and browse the selection with her? Even better.

“You know, they also have modern things on vinyl,” she teased, knowing that it was the ‘hipster’ way of the 21st century to listen to records and think you were hip for it but she just liked the fuzzy quality, remembering back to how her mother and father first listened to their favorite songs. “I will admit to buying Adele’s 19, 21, and 25 all on vinyl as soon as it was available.”

“Yeah, I figured. My friend got me all of Bruno Mars’ albums on vinyl as a birthday present. I like a mixture of modern and old school music. I have an old school Disney classics vinyl that was passed down to me by my parents. It’s honestly one of the greatest vinyls I’ve listened to.” He laughed when she admitted that she bought Adele’s albums as well. “No shame in listening to some good ol’ Adele. I need to find me a Michael Jackson vinyl though. How’s your day going, Al?”

“Oh my god Disney vinyl!? Where can I get some?” She exclaimed, suddenly extremely excited by the idea of listening to Beauty and the Beast on her record player. “There’s nothing wrong with that, I’d definitely own those.” She moved to keep looking through the records as Aiden asked how her day was, shrugging a bit. “Eh? Is that a response? I guess it’s fine. What about you? How have you been?”

“I don’t know if you can find those anymore to be honest. I’m sure that there are some at thrift shops or something but I don’t they sell them anymore in regular vinyl shops,” he continued on. That vinyl he owned was older than him and he never dared put it on the record player. He wanted to keep it intact the way it was when it was handed to him. “Eh can be a response. Anything can be a response really. I’ve been good. I’m loving the summer weather and my dogs have been loving that I take them to the beach on a weekly basis.”

“Don’t bring up dogs, all I want is a dog,” she said as she flipped through another pile of records, looking around not really knowing what she wanted. “But also tell me all about them.” She gave him a smile, hoping that he knew she was teasing about the ‘bringing up dogs’. She wanted nothing more than to own her own puppy but she felt like it was too much of a responsibility for her.

“Well I have two dogs right now, Otis and Ollie. I was considering getting a third dog. I adopted the two of them together when I started working as a congratulatory present to myself. They’re honestly the loves of my life and I’d do anything for them. They’re really cute and fluffy. They’re also calm so I don’t have to worry when I take them on walks that they’re going to start fighting with other dogs. They cuddle together when they sleep too and it’s really cute. They’re honestly the cutest dog best friends ever,” he continued bragging. “Do you have any pets?”

“You can also volunteer at the shelter. I think they always have a need for volunteers and then you get to play with dogs and watch them get adopted. It seems like a win win situation to me,” he advised. “Or, if you want, you’re always more than welcome to hang out with my dogs when we’re all free. I’m sure they would love to play with more people. I’m trying to get them to socialize more. They’re pretty good dogs, but it’d be nice for them to not bark every time they see a new person.”

I hear that some volunteers also groom the dogs so that people are more willing to adopt them.” He laughed at her question and simply nodded. “Yeah. My dogs love to jam out to Elvis. It really gets them going, not so much when I try to sing though.”

It was more about looking at the work of artists than anything else. “I think I’m finally going to get my husky named Bowie that I’ve been talking about since I was a kid and just play ‘Five Years’ on a loop so he knows the best kind of songs. Want him to know only the classics.”

“They’re definitely really into Elvis, especially his song Hound Dog. That song really gets them going. It’s so cute when I start playing any song by Elvis and they start wagging their tails. I’m trying to teach them how to dance but it’s been a failure so far,” he laughed. “Oh my god. Bowie is such a cute name for a dog. I know an Australian Shepherd that lives in my building named Bowie and he’s such a cute dog. He has the cutest park in the world.”

“Honestly, as a kid I thought Bowie wasn’t human because of that. That’s a pretty unique thing though. Is it true that he has different eye colors because of an eye condition or something? What a legend he was though.” He laughed at Alison’s following comment. “That’s pretty cute. I definitely picked weird names for my future pets as a kid, which I will never use because they don’t deserve to be tortured like that. What kind of names do you have picked out?”

He answered back, “I’d probably go with any names that start with an O just because it goes with the theme I kind of have going already.
