In His Mountain Goat Era

cc!Charlie Slimecicle x fem!reader

Synopsis: Charlie and reader goes bouldering.

Warning(s): swearing.

Word count: 680

A/N: I saw Charlie’s IG story of him climbing, yelled, and birthed this.

“I’m going to climb that one.”

“That one – Charlie, that’s a V4.”

Charlie turns to look at you, an excited grin on his face. His messy hair is slightly stained white from the several times he mussed it with his chalk-stained hands. If he had been wearing his spectacles, you were sure it would be dusty from chalk, too.

“I can do it.”

“You’re going to fall off.”

“It can’t be that much harder than a V3.”

“You completed like one V3. You’re gonna fall,” you jab, but you’re already leaning back as you sit on the floor with an amused smile. You know your boyfriend, and you know that he was definitely going to climb it no matter what you say.

“Bet.”

Not longer than a minute later, there’s a thud on the floor. You walk over to Charlie, looming over him with a smug I-told-you-so grin.

“I’ve hit rock bottom,” he wheezes out.

Snorting, you extend your hand towards him. He takes it without hesitation.

“Come on, mountain goat,” you say as you pull him to standing. “Let’s try some more V3s before attempting that again.”

The two of you spend the next hour completing V3 routes, yelling advice at each other when needed.

“Step on the blue one below!” Charlie yells from the mat.

“Where?” you yell back.

“The dinosaur shaped one!”

“The what?” Your left hand shakes from the effort of holding onto the small hold. You peer below you to try to look for the hold he's describing. “I can’t see that from my perspective, give me the general direction.”

“It’s uh,” he pauses and squints for a second. “Fuck. That’s green, not blue.”

“Charlie what – fuck!”

Your left hand slips from the hold and you fall on the mat with a thud.

After bickering and half-excuses (“I’m not wearing my glasses!” “You’re wearing contacts, idiot!”), Charlie decides to attempt the V4 again.

“Don’t fall this time, love,” you smirk at him.

Charlie stares at the route, humming, and you think he’s trying to map out the route in his head. Then, he turns to you with a playful look in his eyes.

“I won’t if you give me a good luck kiss.”

The smirk on your face immediately melts off and is replaced by a warm sensation on your cheeks. The two of you had been dating for a year, and yet Charlie never failed to find a way to fluster you.

“Come on,” he coaxes. “Pretty please?”

Rolling your eyes, you grab his chin and drag him down towards you into a short kiss. You’re very aware that your fingers are going to leave chalk stains on his chin, but Charlie doesn’t seem to mind as he chases your lips when you pull away. Cheekily, he steals a quick peck on the corner of your lips before turning back to the bouldering wall.

You whip out your phone and press record as Charlie starts to climb the V4. He works his way through the beginning faster now that he has a little more experience. When he falters at particularly difficult hold, you cheer from your spot on the mat.

Before you know it, he reaches the top and matches his hands on the last hold. You’re whooping and cheering at his accomplishment. Charlie turns around to look at you, letting go of one hand to give you a thumbs up, and you swear you’ve never seen a more beautiful man look at you (even with a thumb-shaped white chalk stain on his chin).

When he jumps back down to the mat, you ambush him with a tight hug.

“You did it!”

“All thanks to your good luck kiss,” he replies, grinning down at you.

You roll your eyes at him and give him a light shove.

“My turn.”

You complete the V4 ten seconds faster than Charlie. He argues that it’s because you used his beta. You shoot back that it’s a skill issue, smacking his shoulder with a chalk-stained hand.

You notice the glint in Charlie’s eyes too late.

Either way, you both leave the climbing gym with your hair and clothes whiter than it was when you first came.
