Thinking, thinking about this part. It implies that Dai could do something to not get attacked by Kelpie. For me it sounds like Dai has some magic, apocalypse related powers here but they don’t understand how they work. And putting @ellie-the-awesome-11 and @bookofmac theories about Dai being a storyteller, narrator, bard, what if he is capable of changing some parts of the story? But the price for averting one danger is something worse happening. So in the hypothetical situation Dai saves himself from Kelpie but Perry is torn to pieces by dogs. You can’t have a story without danger or tragedy, someone has to get hurt or die, so the plot could go on.
