Do autistic kids "grow out" of their autism? Why does it sometimes seem like there are so few autistic adults?
For Autism Acceptance Month, I covered this topic in this comic to help explain this disconnect! YouTube | TikTok | Instagram | Twitter

hey so um this is kinda related to this post but also not?
like its about autism but not about ‘growing out of it’
so my moms a special Ed teacher right? and she shares her office with another spec Ed teacher who works with kindergarten
she works with 2nd-4th grade but there’s this one kid who stays in their room who’s in kindergarten and very clearly has autism
but he is not diagnosed but he shows all the signs
and he’s 5 right? he doesn’t understand social interactions and is often in his own world but the thing is
my mom has some fractions dominos and he was matching them up correctly
and that’s the thing
most autistic people are incredibly intelligent they just don’t understand social interactions
and most teachers don’t see how smart they are because ‘they never pay attention’
people with autism are probably some of the smartest people in the world
the only reason they aren’t recognized for it is because they don’t understand how social cues work
