And This Is Something That I Was Concerned About Possibly Coming To Life - Tumblr Posts
Do you think Logan has the possibility of being a Dark Side/Other? And I don't mean in relation to Orange Side either, just in general. I have gone progressively crazy attempting to disprove that Logan isn't a Dark Side, but I keep finding things that make it seem true. Logan's playlist, his philosophies, his actions- even his reaction and interactions with/to the other Dark Sides! What are your thoughts on the matter?
Don't worry, dear, I got you and I will give you a couple of reasons about why Logan cannot (and would not) be a dark side or one of the Others:
1) Logan is a Core Side. From a psychological point of view, Logic is an essential part of every human being, while the Others are defense mechanisms centered around the preservation of the individual. Sure, logic can be used as a defense mechanism as well, but it's not the main role this concept encompasses in our minds. So losing it to become something else? Very unlikely.
2) Logan's mentality isn't the same as the Others. Sure, Logan's way of thinking is close to them, but only because Logic is neutral - and, therefore, more mature, compared to a Morality that tries to keep things as simple as possible and a stifled Creativity only focused on family-friendly things.
But Logan proved he doesn't completely agree with the Others' ideas. He doesn't like Janus' moral based on hiding and deceiving, he doesn't like Remus' creative outbursts. He accepts them and knows Thomas needs them, but he personally isn't completely on board with them. So why should he be one of them? To criticize everything they do?
3) If being mature is necessary to be one of the Others, then Patton should be one of them as well. Just like Logan, Patton knows the world isn't entirely a happy place. He knows things don't always go well. The only difference is that Logan sees things in a neutral, cold way, while Patton sees things in a more optimistic way.
But the foundation is the same. They both acknowledge things aren't entirely black or white. So, if that's necessary to be one of the Others, then Patton should be one of them as well. And, once Roman becomes more mature, then he should be one of them as well. Then what, no more Core Sides? And how is Thomas supposed to work, then?
4) Logan's interactions with the dark sides are better compared to Roman's or Patton's, because of logic's neutrality.
Logan is neutral, he does not (and should not) take anyone's side. Of course this makes his interactions with the dark sides more effective, because he doesn't just think "they're bad" and send them away... well, not always, at least.
There is one exception and this is Janus. Every time Janus appeared (until POF at least), Logan loudly pointed out he was there and that pushed Thomas to send Janus away. The only time he didn't do it, Logan asked why Janus was still present (SvS). So Logan might be more neutral than others, but he still has some Sides he tolerates more and others he doesn't like too much.
In conclusion: it's not Logan that should become one of the Others, but the other Core Sides who should become more mature (Roman) or start acting like that (Patton). There shouldn't be two groups of Sides, but only a maturity level they should all reach.
