Through the cool blue and lilac glow that fell from the holographic signs lining the streets, the fat droplets beginning to pelt from the sky and the darkness that began to linger alongside the buildings, a form was just barely visible. Jumbled and disorganised, a mess of metal and synthetic material that had seen better days was propped against a dumpster and the brick wall behind it. Hovering vehicles sped past, women in heels and men in dress shoes strode by, all oblivious to the shape hidden just inside the alley. The droplets that had sprinkled now began to pour from the heavens in earnest, and the form began to grow soaked. Water pooled across the chipped and uneven concrete, dripping and mixing with the deep, burnt violet that trickled slowly from metallic shapes that looked vaguely like limbs, the metal torn and busted, and the flesh-like material spread across it ripped and ruined. As the remaining light of day fled the sky and the distant rumble of brontide pierced the damp air, time began to run out for the form. It had been there for days, untouched by anything but nature, and while the LED light in its eyes had managed to remain, now it had begun to flicker. It was a hopeless night, a hopeless storm growing closer, and the glow of the signsâ light reflecting across the puddles was beginning to overpower the formâs own.
He didnât have much longer at all.

The Red Light District wasnât a place you enjoyed visiting, nor one you frequented by choice. Rather, it was a necessary evil; just on the other side of the district lay a waste field, ripe with discarded technology and all the parts in the world a simple tinkerer like you could ever want. Normally, someone such as yourself seeking to pilfer the field for parts and goods would be refused entry, but you had the luck of knowing and befriending the owner. Mr Bang was a retired scientist, an inventor of sorts, whoâd specialised in AI and had even mentored some of your friends in their studies before he reached an age where he decided it was time to leave the profession. It was, in a way, quite peculiar that he now owned and managed what was essentially a trash yard for discarded technology. From simple things like microwaves and hoverboards to the rare early-age android, He collected them and stored them. The only place heâd managed to find big enough for all his, well, junk had been the warehouse on the other side of the Red Light District. And so, that was where you had to goâ actually, it was where you were trying to go right now, if the storm and resulting traffic decided to let up.
Your car was somewhat a relic of an older time, but still technologically advanced enough that it was allowed on the road with other vehicles. Youâd grown up being taught to drive by your parents, and secretly longed to be able to drive your own car, but the laws in this day and age were quite clear. On roads that hovercraft and wheeled vehicles shared, only automatic, self-driving units were allowed. Gone were the days when you controlled the speed of your own car, the turns and brakes. It was nice not having to think about all of those things on the journey to your destination, but at the same time you found it gave you too much time to think. While it took more mental capacity, driving in itself was a mindless sort of activity. You liked that it quietened your thoughts, but supposed youâd just have to deal as always with how loud they were for now.

Ever since that night youâd gone out with Seokjin and your friends, something had been niggling, running along the back of your mind, but youâd been far too sober to be able to access it again. In the meantime, you were distracted by your budding friendship and the way you grew ever closer to the android in your home, as well as another matter that continued to grow more pressing with each day that passed. You didnât want to think about it, and did your best to avoid the funk and general low mood that would accompany this time of year.
This meant distractions, and one of the things that distracted you most was Jeonggukâ in particular, your endeavours to make him display the emotions youâd become so accustomed to. Surprise, curiosity⊠happiness, youâd witnessed almost all of them in the months now that youâd known him, and the only thing more exhilarating than witnessing them was knowing you were the cause of them, the reason his LED-rimmed eyes lit with joy and elation.
So for a mixture of reasons, like the sake of keeping your mind off other things and simultaneously endeavouring to make Jeongguk happy, youâd dipped from your store on an impromptu shopping trip. You didnât know his âbirthâ date, and neither did heâ his memories were slowly beginning to repair and trickling back in, but for the most part he remained somewhat amnesiacâ but youâd decided that he needed one. And, considering this time of year held no particular good memories for you, why not make new ones?
It was for this reason youâd made Jeongguk draw a date out of a hat at random (a controlled activity, of courseâ they were all dates for the next month that began in a few days) and had made a quick escape from your house without him a few times over the week. He wasnât really clued in about exactly what you were doing, but you knew he could tell you were up to something. While you were absent from the shop, he dutifully took it upon himself to manage the business for however long you were gone. He had a charisma about him that drew people in, and youâd actually found that ever since youâd let him man the counter and help you with the shop your business had grown and the amount of customers had increased a startling amount. Admittedly, a fair amount of the new customers were female, but you werenât about to bite the hand feeding you or look the gift horse in the mouth. Customers were customers and when your livelihood and almost entire income came from your business, you werenât about to start being picky.
ây/n!â his cheerful tone was what greeted you as you stepped back into the welcome air and warmth of your shop. It was late in the evening, and you tapped the door so that the electronic sign flicked from open to closed before facing the android.
Jeongguk was a sight to see always, but especially when he wore the clothes he had personally picked out on one of your occasional shopping tripsâ every item had personality and quirk, from the rips in his jeans to the worn belt that helped tuck his loose button-up in and accentuate his slim waist. Honestly, as far as androids, who were manufactured in the image of perfection, went, you didnât think youâd seen any more attractive, more appealing than Jeongguk. It really made you wonder, what had he been created, been used for, before all of this? The fluttering of his lashes as he turned to you sometimes, the low dip of his voice when he stood close to your side and watched you work, the warmth beneath his synthetic skin as you huddled together beneath a blanket on the couch⊠the little things in his make made him more human than youâd thought possible.

Artificially Inclined - Pt 3

Title: Artificially Inclined (A.I.) Word Count: 6K Rating: M Genre: Android AU, Assassin AU, Scifi, Romance (smut), Drama, Thriller Warnings: Violence, Disability Discrimination, Drug Use, Sexual Reference Pairings: Maknae Line x Reader (Primarily Jungkook x Reader) Â Pairings (in this chapter): Â Jungkook x Reader, Taehyung x Reader
Summary: You took Jungkook on as a project, something to help you pass the time in your exile. How could you have known that he would become such a big part of your life? That he would see you as his entire reason for existence, and the only method for his survival. When an outsider, V, is forced into your life, after learning of the secret that keeps you hidden away, relationships shift and tension grows high. After all, how can you expect Jungkook to share your attention when heâs held it for so long?

A/N: Just a forewarning there is going to be a major tone shift two thirds of the way through this chapter. Itâs a POV switch, which is written in true first person (as opposed to the modified version I sometimes write in). Â I considered splitting it off into another chapter but in order for you to get the full view of whatâs happening I decided to keep it all together. Enjoy!
Chapter 3 - Execution Flaw

âI would like you to ask me Noona. If it happens again, I want to help you.â
You find yourself repeating, âhe doesnât know what heâs asking,â over and over in your mind until you find a way to resolve his request. âŠJungkook what do you feel towards me? When you see me what is your first reaction?âŠ
âI want to assist you.â
âŠWould you ever deny me a request?âŠ
âOf course not Noona.â
âŠThen Iâm sorry but I canât ask you to help me. I know you say that you want to, but you do not yet possess the components that equate to consent in this matter⊠ The explanation you give is formal but itâs the best you have.
âAnd what are those components?â Jungkookâs eagerness weighs on you, itâs as if he expects to receive a simple answer that will clarify everything.Â
