On the topic of Antlions...
Here's my own little species of Xenian Antlion, where I've had them evolve from its canon counterparts:
The 'beak' is adapted from those "chelicerae" that the Antlions of both HL2 and HL:A have, where it has adapted to bludgeon and take out chunks rather than to grab onto and masticate with its mouth. Fascinating!
And the legs are, as you could probably see, are more adapted to latching rather than impaling/stabbing. As their hunting strategy is to latch onto their prey and just go ham with their beaks, bludgeoning and biting. Slightly different than however the Antlions in the canon games attack their prey with impaling with their legs, but still very Antlion-y :)
These colours are a placeholder with how crappy they are, but It's a very important part of how they avoided being eaten by larger predators in Xen, using their ornately folded wings to open with a sudden display of colours that may ward off any threat (with eyes.)
Their behaviour is similar to the canon Antlions, although less cooperative with each other than the ant-like colonies shown in Episode Two. Where their social hierarchy is more akin to Wolves or Clownfish.
These antlions do not have the ability to shoot out a projectile glob of acid, but rather passively excrete it as a form of toxin/venom/whatever to their bites. Which it functions as almost like a painkiller as an unintentional side-effect to native Earth life.
I couldn't fit this anywhere, but its blood is pretty much like a glowstick. If you whack the antlion really hard the bruise would glow.
And that's all! If I had any more to say about my little fan-species of Antlions, I would've added it somewhere in this post. But I can say that I'm proud of how it looks, functions and all that jazz. I would've gone about and added some kind of colour to it, but I decided that it wasn't going to be worth it and went with some basic greys to make it easier to see what's going on.
hi hii! slight change of plans. due to school starting back and just overall pacing/progress with the first episode, i’m only going to illustrate episode 1 for the august release but episodes 2-4 will be getting written and storyboarded as i upload the pages for episode 1! each episode will be split into several different uploads due to my inexperience in making comics lol, but i promise i’m going to try to deliver the best product i possibly can! as of right now, episode 1 is still slated for a release window of mid-august to early september. character thread saturday btw!!

It’s just a little antlion. I drew it from memory, without Internet. It was a new marker from AliExpres :) Просто небольшой муравьиный лев. Рисовала по-памяти, т.к. не было Интернета. Опробовала новый маркер с АлиЕкспреса :)
