Echoes on the last day of Ariadneia...

“Ariadne” John William Waterhouse

Ariadne, mistress of the labyrinth, long linked to the serpent mother goddess. Pregnant, abandoned by Theseus after helping him slay her brother the Minotaur (Theseus ran off with her sister Phaedra, by the way, what a cock), she married the god Dionysus.
Because after you’ve helped murder your brother for love of a man who then nicks off leaving you pregnant on some island so he can bone your sister what better to do than marry the god of booze.
Seriously though Ariadne you are one of the most interesting mythological women.

MYTHOLOGY MEME - [2/5] OTPS: ARIADNE/DIONYSUS
He [Theseus] carried off Ariadne [from Krete] and sailed out unobserved during the night, after which he put in at the island which at that time was called Dia, but is now called Naxos. At this same time, the myths relate, Dionysos showed himself on the island, and because of the beauty of Ariadne he took the maiden away from Theseus and kept her as his lawful wife, loving her exceedingly. Indeed, after her death he considered her worthy of immortal honours because of the affection he had for her, and placed among the stars of heaven the Crown of Ariadne [the constellation Corona]. (x)

Ω BACKGROUND
Ariadne is the immortal wife of Dionysus, and was the Princess of Crete. She was the daughter of King Minos and Queen Pasiphae. Ariadne knew that her father was evil, and that sacrificing people to the Minotaur was cruel. Ariadne fell in love with Theseus at first sight, and wanted him to live. She agreed to help him, and he promised to make her his bride and take her to Athens if he survived. She gave him a sword and a magical ball of yarn to help on his journey.
These gifts however failed, and she eventually used her ability to see through the mist to help guide him through the maze. With this help, Theseus was able to slay the Minotaur. Before King Minos could do anything about it, they got back on their ship and sailed away, Ariadne accompanying Theseus.
Eventually, Theseus grew tired of Ariadne. They stopped at the island of Naxos and Theseus “dumped” Ariadne and left her on the island. That night, when everybody was sleeping, Theseus woke up all his crew, except for Ariadne and they sailed off, leaving her deserted on the island. They had left the beautiful girl that saved their lives.
Dionysus later found her crying and weeping for Theseus. He instantly fell in love with her and he comforted her. He was determined to make the poor girl happy again. Over time, he healed her broken heart and they were married.
Ariadne remained faithful to Dionysus, but later died, and Dionysus couldn’t live without his beloved. He descended to the Underworld and retrieved her and his mother Semele back. They then joined the gods on Olympus, and Ariadne was made Dionysus’s immortal wife.

Meet Ariadne, she is a daughter of Pasiphae and King Minos.

"Ariadneia, September 19th... In celebration of the women who help us through our labyrinths, the women who will stand by love even if it means leaving everything they have known. The women who can be lost and discarded, and yet still open themselves to love again, solve their own labyrinths, and rise to find joy and a home in the stars."

According to Greek mythology, Ariadne was willing to help Theseus find his way out of the Labyrinth. In exchange Theseus promised to marry her and take her back to Athens. Ariadne gave him a BALL OF THREAD and told him to secure one end at the entrance to the Labyrinth. He could then unravel the ball as he made his way. By following the thread Theseus would be able to find the way back to the entrance.
Theseus slowly made his way through the Labyrinth, unravelling the ball as he went. He encountered the Minotaur, and after a struggle slew the beast. Together with the others he followed the thread back to the entrance and out of the Labyrinth.
