You barely notice it at first: the shadow that shields you from the sun as you sit in your car, waiting for one of your friends to grace you with her presence after being 20 minutes late. Your legs sit on top of the dashboard and you hold your phone in your hands, mindlessly scrolling through whatever you can find. A few seconds later, it rings in your mind that someone is standing in front of your car, leaning into the window.
Your head snaps upwards to greet your friend when you realize… that the person looking into your car isn’t who you thought it was.
