Possibly my favorite work of Schoenberg's, certainly right up there, and perfection in every way. I didn't altogether appreciate GG's performance when I first heard it 30 yrs ago or so. I was at that time under the spell of Charles Rosen's complete works performances. (And if I still had my copy of that out-of-print gem, I could talk more intelligently about it.) But I like this very much now, to say the least. Irrespective who you listen to, or play it yourself, this is 12-tone's apotheosis. Worth living for.

The interesting Rihm, not often programmed (to my knowledge) in the US. I am unsure of the significance of his piano works in his overall body of work, but worth further exploration.

In a world of Taylor Swift... talk about heterogeny!

Elliott Carter: Two Diversions, performed by Pierre-Laurent Aimard.
Such a beautiful work. And I love the attention these players bring to the project.

Anton Webern: Drei Kleine Stücke op.11
I imagine folks sitting on a porch, or veranda, in the summertime, sipping rapidly melting iced drinks, listening to the piano sounds coming from the parlor. Folks in a sunny southern town. Folks who love atonal music. (Not this world, obviously.)

Michael Finnissy: O, Schöner Mai
Absolutely lovely work by another composer unknown to me. More in the nature of an improvisation than a composed piece. I cannot understand the motive behind such complex rhythmic and melodic notation, nor the masochism of one who would prepare it for performance, but I am nonetheless grateful. And of course ever thanks to @atonalitydotnet for showing it to me in the scrolling-score excellence of which I am so fond.

Michael Finnissy: English Country Tunes - Midsummer Morn
I'd need a closer look at this score to see how it would adapt to piano performance. My best is it would adapt very well. Perhaps for 4 (or 6) hands.

as so often, as too often, another composer whose work is unfamiliar to me...
