Bluebeard: Courtship
I am working on a personal project of a retelling/re-imagining of Bluebeard. As a kid, I had a picture book of the fairy tale and I remember loving it a lot. It was dark, something I’ve always been attracted to, and the art was beautiful. When I read it later as a teen, it was wrapped up too much in weird moral lessons to women, which was less attractive to me. I love fairy tales to just be fairy tales.
I am going to be true to my own little self and her love for the dark and beautiful, and changing it enough to please my current tastes.

SO after my computer dying right after I started working on this for my illustration class back…. 3 months ago OTL I had to start again from scratch and do everything traditional BUT I’m damn proud of those inked illustrations! I did a few drawings during the past 3 months, not as much as I’d like but still. I’ll post those little by little so I don’t spam xD
Bluebeard. Based on the incredibly creepy childrens story that you definitely shouldn’t read to your kids.

The story is a mystery and, maybe, gothic romance (if I’m not wrong with the term).
Could be changed for dark/mystery romance where the lord is cursed and have a nice ending. I love fix-its.
I don’t mean wreck the story, by any means. I mean more like Snow queen/ Frozen adaptation. (Not making a case here I suppose. I mean different enough but not too different).
I don’t mean Disney but some Beauty-and-the-Beast-esque with a bit of Phantom of the Opera in there. Medieval, gothic and not modernized like how Dracula/vampires was modernized.

-Barbe-bleue 2008 (Nice medieval set, reminds me of Hammer films, has a funny pair of little girls, the bride is in early teens, not really romance)
