it was desolate and quiet in the back corner of the library. fortunately, there was an empty table meant to hold four people at once—more than four if people were smart enough to bring up extra chairs. mercifully, the library was almost empty, other than the few college students that went there to study for their future tests and exams. they were all scattered around the library, making them hard to find.
they camouflaged in with the various books located on the bookshelves, burying themselves in various titles in order to find the right one to study from. unbeknownst to you, you unfortunately stood out to someone. someone in particular you must say. someone known across the campus for their rude awakening whenever he walks inside of a room.
you peer up from your book in order to confirm who you suspected to be in the library. you confirmed your suspicion by looking at that spiky hair and that distinct ‘x’ mark on the side of his head, specifically carved on the side of his hair.
you distracted yourself by finishing up the chapter of the book you were reading. to much dismay, the strong aura kept increasing as you heard footsteps gradually increase towards you. you peer up from your book one more time just to meet the beady vermillion eyes of your worst enemy, shoei barou.
of course, you had nothing against the man—not anything that would call him an actual enemy towards you. many people had many grudges against him—especially on the soccer field—for various reasons, but nonetheless, you had nothing against the man.
you tried to distract yourself from his gaze by looking at your book again, but it was just too hard to break away from the pull he has on you—just by looking at you too.
“y/n? that’s it right?” he questioned in a low baritone voice, almost shaking the floor. you slowly started to slide the customized bookmark between your book as you closed it, finally submitting to his gaze. his eyes didn’t look like they held hostility towards you, that was great to say the least.
you nodded as you slid your book to the side where all your other belongings were, slightly adjusting your glasses that were sitting on the bridge of your nose undisturbed. the tall, muscular man hummed as he grabbed something out of the bag he was holding. you didn’t realize he was holding something until you heard something rustling underneath you. as he successfully retrieved the item he was digging for, he handed it to you. it looked hot, steaming almost, ready for it to be devoured.
“for you . . . from me.” he said, clearing his throat as he bunched up the bag in his dominant hand. you nodded as you slowly started to open up the packaging. you could smell all of your favorite ingredients infecting your senses all together, hitting you hard like a truck. it was to the point where you weren’t even focusing on the scenery, you were just admiring the glistening condensation and the slight steam that escaped the container when the lid was taken off.
you were taken aback by something. this was better than takeout meals, nevertheless restaurant meals. you took a quick glance at barou as he returned the favor. it was almost like he wanted you to dig into the meal already and give an opinion about it.
“b-barou, you did say this was for me . . . from you?” you were afraid that you would have yourself corrected by him. you’ve heard about how long barou’s lectures were when someone left a jersey in the locker room or when someone left a mess in the cafeteria. you didn’t want to end up like those victims of no other than shoei barou’s lectures. all of those thoughts faded when the man who stood in front of you answered with a simple “yes.”
a slight blush started to cover his cheeks as he covered them up with his dominant hand—parts of the bag he was holding brushed against the corner of his lip. “a little birdie told me that you enjoyed that type of food. so, i decided to make a little treat for you.” you too started to feel heated up, especially in the face. you averted your eye contact from barou as you looked at the meal that was sitting in front of you.
“i wasted the precious minutes of my time just to make you a meal that you could enjoy,” he began. “i know how hard it is having to live off of takeout and not having the skill to cook a meal at your precious home.” your nose started to flare because of the embarrassment of two things: first barou calling out your inability to cook a proper meal, second barou’s voice being so damn loud that you felt the whole library looking at you.
“b-barou, please tone it down. some people are trying to study, you know?” you said, trying to come up with an excuse to keep barou’s voice down so you both wouldn’t get kicked out of the library for noise violation. you heard him mumble a small “sorry” under his breath, as he puffed hot air out his nose. “can you just please take a bite so i know how it tastes.”
you have never heard barou say kind words like “please” and “sorry” before—even though sorry wasn’t a kind word, you had to take it into consideration for barou for being so pacifist—in a short duration before.
you unwrapped the spoon and fork that was wrapped together in a small cloth and began to dig in. the food didn’t even settle on the taste buds of your tongue before you were overwhelmed by the sensation of this sweetness mixed with a tad bit of sourness. you decided to add some rice to the mix and it tasted even better.
you could feel barou looking at you with no hostility or pacifism in mind. he was just looking at you, admiring his own homemade cooking. barou was lost in thought. the little expression that you made when you truly enjoyed something was imprinted in his mind forever.
barou never told you this before, but he finds you the least annoying person on the planet. even though you two don’t hang out a lot, he just has this admiration for you. with you focusing on your schoolwork and working at a successful job, he wishes that he could be a part of that life also.
“barou,” you said, snapping him out of his trance. “this tastes really good. thank you so much!” you unconsciously hugged him. you didn’t even know what happened, it was on instinct somehow. barou was stiff, he literally couldn’t move a muscle as he embraced your warmth for a brief moment before he felt it drift away.
you felt the blood rush to your cheeks as you covered your face in embarrassment. “m’sorry, barou. i-i don’t know what came over me . . .” barou wasn’t listening to the words that you uttered, or the apology that you quickly said, fumbling over your words. barou didn’t even realize that he was centimeters away from physical contact with you. barou didn’t even realize the intense heat that flooded up to his cheeks and down to his awakening member. barou didn’t even realize the intense desire to mold his lips into yours. the only thing barou realized is that the deed was already done.
barou slipped his tongue inside of your mouth to explore the wet cavern as he grabbed the fat of your ass, massaging it in his hand. he relished the feeling of your clothed flesh on his exposed one, slowly inching towards you as his chest pressed your own. before you knew it, your back was pressed against a wooden table as barou continued his assault on your lips.
he soon departed as a trail of saliva was left in his path from your sloppy brief makeout session. “w-wait, barou . . .” you mumbled, attempting to push him off. you weren’t the type of girl to get yourself caught doing inappropriate things, especially in a public space. “barou!” you said, pulling his ear. “god dammit woman!” barou said as he let the force of your pull bring him towards you. “we’re in a library for heavens sake! have some couth!”
barou grumbled under his breath as he helped you back onto your feet, as if you weren’t dripping down your thighs right now. he quickly planted a kiss on your cheek as he rubbed your back in circling motions.
“w-what was all that for?” you whispered, looking at barou’s red eyes, seemingly dilated because of the lust he just experienced mere moments ago. as you both walked towards the library exit—barou holding your belongings in his left hand and holding your hand in his right—the library owner told you both farewell as the bell started to chime, signaling either entry or exit.
you were still awaiting on barou’s answer to the question you asked earlier, but he had seem to forget all about it. all of a sudden, your phone buzzed as you looked at the notification you got. it was a message from the renovators that had renovated your apartment’s bathroom.
“w-well, it seems like my bathroom got renovated,” you said, letting go of barou’s hand. “i guess it’s time for me to go home.”
barou quickly grabbed your hand. you were shocked by the sudden ministrations, the sudden action he had performed right now. he quickly let it go. “i’m sorry.” barou rubbed the back of his neck as he said, “can i at least walk you home? it’s about to get dark.” you nodded as you grabbed his hand again, walking towards your street where your apartment resided.
“you know it was because i love you.” he said, unexpectedly. you had no idea what barou was talking about, all you heard was the word “love” and your mind went haywire.
“w-why, huh?” you were confused, lost in thought. even though barou despised many people, you seemed to be on his clear list—probably the only one on his clear list besides his family members.
“i love you.” he said, kissing your lips again, embracing the warmth that your lips give him. he said it a million times over, making sure that you heard those three words that he said. you were listening, oh you bet your heart out you were listening. you too felt the same emotions for him, you just didn’t know a way of approaching him to tell him about that.
before you knew it, you were in front of your apartment door, bidding farewell to barou for the night. he gave you one last kiss before you disappeared into the shadows of your apartment. before you could close and lock your door, he stuck his foot between the door, leaving some space between the inside and outside of the home.
“hey . . . before you go . . . would you like to go somewhere tomorrow?” you were stunned at his words, but your heart started to flutter because of those words. “o-of course, j-just text me the location and time, okay?” barou already knew he had your contact information because of isagi, so he personally didn’t have to ask you for your number. your apartment door closed before barou was shut out of your private life: the life behind your apartment door.
barou knew the three words he said today were genuine. he knows everything he said in your lifetime was genuine. barou felt a weight lift off of his chest when he confessed his love for you. but another weight filled his chest, especially his heart.
the weight he carried wasn’t a burden or anything, the weight he carried was his extreme love for you. barou loved you. he doesn’t know how to express his love more than those simple three words.
“i love you.”
