Yoongi rolls over in his bed and groans as his phone rings for the fifth time in a row.
Whoever is calling me before I’m ready to be up is dead to me now. He opens his eyes in a glare at his phone ringing and vibrating. Without looking at the contact person, he slams his hand down on his phone to grab it and swipe the call to take it.
“What?!” He growls. He hears your voice squeak and his expression turns soft, but his voice is still a little rough, “Y/N? Why are you calling me at,” He looks at the time and sheepishly continues, “…4pm?”
“I’m sorry. But you’re the closest person I know who has a big enough car…” You start. He sighs. Sounds like an errand.
“What do you want?” He asks straightforwardly.
“Um…my family is surprising me by flying in to spend the holidays. B-but, you know, I didn’t really expect them, so I didn’t feel the need to dress my home in Christmas spirit. I don’t want to ruin their Christmas…so…”
“You need a Christmas tree, decorations, and stockings, am I right? Do you have Christmas lights?” He asks as he sits up. He rubs his face when you answer no.
“What time do they come in?”
“They’ll be here in 6 hours.” His eyes widen and he groans. He lies back on his bed.
“Y/N, I’ll be at your house in 20 minutes. At 20 minutes sharp, I want you outside with a thermos of coffee, black and 2 sugars. Okay? Start looking up where you’re going to get your stockings, decorations, and lights.” He can practically hear you nodding before you remember he can’t see you. You mumble your agreement and he ends the call. He sighs and gets up.
As he promised, he shows up at your home in 20 minutes. At the same time, he sees you coming out from the stairs to your apartment with a thermos in hand.
When you get inside his truck, he reaches for the thermos before you can close the door and he takes a long sip of the coffee.
“Okay,” He pants as he tips the thermos back and closes it. He puts it in the cup holder and drives off.
“We’re going to get the tree first. It’s two days before Christmas so I’m pretty sure your choices are more limited than limited. Where are we getting the stuff? And you already got your family presents, right?” He asks as he turns the corner onto the main road.
“Yeah. We can get the stuff at the discount retailer nearby. We can get them on our way home after we get the tree.” You say as you double check on the store’s website for their stock count, “And I bought my family presents a long time ago. I shipped it to them, but they’re bringing it over so we can all open our presents together.”
He says nothing. You put your hands in your lap and you lower your head, “Thanks for helping me.”
Yoongi just grunts and he takes another sip of the coffee.
You two arrive at a plain field where a fence surrounds five Christmas trees that have already been pre-cut. You two get out and he follows you inside the boundaries to take a look at the trees.
“Um.” You study the different trees. They’re similar in heights; not too tall, but not short either. At least they will surpass you two and your family’s heights. You feel lucky enough that these are your choices. You eliminate the shortest one, the thinnest one, and the one where the top is starting to look bare.
“Of these two, which one do you think is good?” You ask Yoongi. He was looking elsewhere, but he turns to the trees now with a bored look. He gestures to one of them, “That one.”
“Why?” You ask. You were leaning towards that tree too, but you wanted a second opinion.
“Do you want to discuss why and give yourself second thoughts, or do you want to get it home before you family shows up?” You purse your lips together and nod. You two go find the man in charge to take it home.
After you two bundled the tree with the help of the business man, you two make your way to the store to get the stockings, lights, and tree decorations.
“I’ll get the lights and the stockings. You go choose your decorations.” Yoongi splits off without another word.
“Try to get purple or white lights if you can!” You shout to him as he’s quickly making his way down the lanes.
“Beggars can’t be choosers!” He shouts back.
Nevertheless, he makes his way to the lane with all the lights, scanning for purple or white. There’s green and blue. But no purple or white.
He frowns and makes his way out of the lane to see a store helper walking by.
“Excuse me. I’m sorry. Do you have any more lights in the back, purple or white?” He gives a sweet and polite smile at the girl.
“Oh.” She pauses just to stare at him, “I’m sorry, I think this is all we have.”
“Can you please check? I’m trying to save Christmas for my girlfriend here.” He spins the story, with a little white lie. You’re the girl, but he’s just the friend.
Her expression changes when she thinks he’s taken, “O-oh. Okay. I’ll be right back.” She makes her way to the back. He checks the other two lanes for stockings and chooses a couple of red, green, and white ones. They’re plain, but it’ll have to do. He stays in front of the staff only doors to wait for the girl.
She comes back out with three boxes in her arms.
“These are all I can find. These two are 50 bulbs of purple, and this is 100 bulbs of white.” He takes them from her arms.
“Thank you so much. Merry Christmas.” He darts off to the decorations lane and she watches him go as she muses to herself, “Lucky girl.”
He skims through the lanes and finally finds you with four ornament sets, two sets of purple orbs and two sets of cute ornaments of different shapes and figures, and silver tinsel.
“You’re lucky. These are the last on the shelf.” He raises up the boxes of lights in his hand as evidence. You grunt your thank you as you reach up the shelves.
You’re just about to grab the star at the top shelf, but he comes over and grabs one for you.
“Not that one. The one on the right.” He glares at you. You look at him with an apologetic look and he sighs. He puts the star down and grabs the one you want.
“Ready?” He asks. You look at him and nod. You two go to the check out.
You have two hours before you go pick your parents up at the airport. You search up their flight number to keep track of when they land as Yoongi sits your Christmas tree on the most spacious corner of your house and plants it in the Christmas tree stand.
Yoongi takes out all the decorations and lights from the boxes as you take them from him and start decorating. You two work together to make the best Christmas tree you possibly can. There are not enough lights, but you two tried to spread it out as much as you can, but close enough so that the gaps don’t feel so empty.
Since you bought so many ornaments, you don’t want to overdo your Christmas tree so you choose some to hang around your house. You hand over the leftover ones to Yoongi for him to put up around your house. You grab some arts and crafts glitter glue to write your family members’ names on the stockings.
As you write, Yoongi completes his task and takes your computer to check the time.
“You have 45 minutes left before we leave. Anything else?”
“Uh,” You start without looking up from your work, “Can you check if I have any easy bake cookie dough or something? I should have some cookie cutters on my third drawer at the end. And some hot chocolate, I’m pretty sure I have some.”
He hums and searches up Spotify and finds a playlist for you to put on some Christmas music. You look up at smile at him and he returns a smile to you for the first time today. He goes to the kitchen to look at your holiday food inventory.
“You have one box of cookie dough and not enough hot chocolate to serve your whole family for…how long are they staying?” He asks.
“5 days. I thought I had more hot chocolate.” You say as you complete 2 out 3 stockings. You paste some decorative things on your stockings as well.
“You probably drink it all.” He says as he comes back from the kitchen.
“Probably.” You blush.
“Well, we still have a little time to make it to the store. We’ll pick up some food and get your family. You’re going to have to make it after you come home.”
You sigh and get up, stick a star on the last stocking. You hang up all three on a blank wall.
“Okay. Let’s go.” You grab your coat and leave with him. The Christmas music is still playing.
After grabbing some snickerdoodles, both store-bought and premade dough, hot chocolate, candy canes and mint chocolates for the stockings, and double-stocked on hot chocolate, you two finally make way to the airport.
Yoongi makes a couple of rounds around the airport while you go in to meet up with your family.
Yoongi gets a call from you to notify him that you finally got a hold of your parents and you’re making your way out.
“Here we go.” He mumbles to himself as he makes a slow crawl down the road to find you and slide in against the sidewalk closest to you and your family. He’s never met your family, so it’ll be the first time.
He sees you flagging him down with your parents and your brother behind you with their luggage.
He parks the car on the side to come out and open the truck’s rear end. He overhears your conversation with your parents.
“He’s Yoongi, my friend. He’s the closest friend I know who owns a car big enough to hold a – uh, your luggage.” You explain to your family as you help your mom roll her luggage over to Yoongi who smiles and greets everyone as he takes the luggage to put it in.
“Hello Yoongi, I’m Y/N’s father, Y/F/N.” Your father extends his hand out to shake Yoongi’s hand. Yoongi returns the greeting and meets with your father’s firm handshake with just as much firmness.
“Y/M/N.” Your mother introduces herself.
“Please to meet you.” Yoongi shakes her hand as well.
“I’m Jimin, her little brother.” Jimin lifts his hand in a short wave.
“Alright. We’re ready to go.” You clasp your hands together. Your father watches you as you slide into the passenger’s seat as naturally as you do.
At your home, rather than shooing Yoongi away, you invite him to stay for a while. It’s the least you can do as far as tonight goes after all that he’s done for you today. While your family embraces the warmth of your home, Yoongi stays in the kitchen to prepare the tray of cookies.
“Y/N, what does Yoongi do for a living?” Your father asks you out of nowhere. You pause your arm stretch for your cup of hot chocolate.
“He does music. Why?” You ask.
“That’s his major?” He interrogates further. You hear a little hostility in his voice.
“N-no. He dropped out of college after his first year. He’s been supporting himself through his music. He’s quite popular in the underground hip hop community.”
“Underground hip hop?” Jimin pipes up, “That’s cool.” Your father gives Jimin a disapproving look for interrupting before turning back to you.
“I don’t know if I like the idea of my daughter dating some guy who’s unstable with his career, and in underground hip hop of all.”
“Wait a second, dad. What’s wrong with hip hop? And when did I ever say he’s unstable? He’s been doing this for years and he’s making a good name for himself right now. I mean, you’ve seen his truck. He bought that on his own.”
“Yeah, but he doesn’t have the education that will be his back up if he fails. Music careers aren’t known to support anyone other than the musician himself.”
“He’s not going to fail, dad. And he’s a very responsible person.” You said definitively.
“Hey, Y/N,” You all turn to see Yoongi at the entry way between your living room and the kitchen, “I’ve put the cookies in the oven already. I set the egg timer for you. I’m gonna go now. It’s been a long day. Merry Christmas, everyone. Please, enjoy your night.” He quickly makes a break for his shoes at your home’s entry way and leaves.
“Nice going, dad. He probably heard you. You know, since you three decided to surprise me with your visit, I actually didn’t have my home decorated at all. Not even a candy cane in the house. I told him six hours before your arrival that I wanted to decorate my home because I know how much you guys like the holiday spirit. He drove me everywhere to find the right tree, the lights, stockings, cookies, hot chocolate, and to pick you up. And you know what? He bought the tree, as a Christmas gift for all of us. He doesn’t have his own family to spend Christmas with. His parents kicked him out when they heard he wanted to pursue his passion in music as a career, kind of like what you’re doing right now.” You get up and go after Yoongi, leaving your family inside.
You run down the stairs to see Yoongi’s car already started. You quickly open the passenger’s side and hop in.
“Yoongi, I’m so sorry for my family. My dad doesn’t mean to judge so quickly. He normally doesn’t, not even with my previous boyfriends. He’s a lot more open-minded than you think. Just give him a chance.”
“Why?” He stuns you with his question.
“W-what do you mean ‘why?’” You ask.
“Why are you so afraid that we don’t like each other?” Yoongi turns to you. He doesn’t smile or anything, but his eyes show amusement.
“Well, you’re my friend. And he’s my dad. I’d hate for two important people in my life to not like each other.” You explain.
“I don’t think that’s all of it, Y/N.” He turns off his car, “You know, I heard every word upstairs. One thing stuck out to me though.” You hold your breath when he leans closer to you.
“You never denied that we’re dating. And did you just try to comfort me through examples of your dad liking your previous boyfriends?” You blink at him and bite your lip, unsure of what you can say.
He looks down at your lips and smirks. He raises his hand up to your cheek and extends his thumb to stroke your lips.
“I believe you about your dad. I know myself. I’m pretty sure he’ll warm up to me. Like his good little daughter did.” He leans closer.
“I believe in you, Yoongi.” You whisper as he closes in.
“I know. Thank you.” Yoongi’s lips finally meet yours and you sigh into the kiss. He brings his hand to the back of your head to pull you closer to him, deepening the kiss.
You two hear a knock on Yoongi’s side window. You two break the kiss to see your dad. You bite your lips again and blush furiously as Yoongi lowers the window.
“Hello, sir.” Your father looks back and forth between you two.
“Kids,” he mumbles to himself before he looks at Yoongi, “I apologize for my behavior earlier. I just never heard about you, or met you no less, so I asked the basics without getting to know you. Thank you for helping my daughter get ready for Christmas in her home. Would you like to come back up for some of those cookies you baked?”
Yoongi turns back to you and you smile at him with a look that says, told you.
“I’d be honored, sir.” Yoongi nods.
“There’s not much honor, boy.” Your father laughs, “You baked them. We are more honored than you are for coming into a home of warmth.”
Your father starts walking away before turning back, “I expect my daughter to come up really soon. So quit making out for now.”
You groan in embarrassment when your dad goes back up to your home and Yoongi laughs for the first time tonight and pats you on the back.
“I like your dad.”
“I’m sure. My exes tend to like him. He’s a lot cooler when you get to know him more. Soon, you’re going to like him more than you like me.” You groan and drop your head.
He lifts your head back up to kiss you, “That’s very unlikely. I’m not gonna kiss him.”
