Day 18 of Black History Month and I’m honoring Henrietta Lacks. She was an African-American woman whose cancer cells are the source of the HeLa cell line, the first immortalized human cell line and one of the most important cell lines in medical research.

Day 2:

Nathan Green aka “Uncle Nearest”, a former enslaved man, was a founder and master distiller. The first Black master distiller in the U.S., as recorded in 2016. Green was the mastermind of what we know as Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey when he taught a young Jack, about the art of distilling in the mid-1800s-previously thought to be taught by Dan Call, however later disputed. Later, in 2017, Uncle Nearest, Inc. launched Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey-with the intention to have a national and international release. Upholding a legacy that was hidden away for a few centuries tells a story of determination, perseverance and resilience.
