Misfits

Maggie was sitting in a park under a tree writing in her diary. She was new in town and once again new at the school. This and the fact that she didn't interacted much with the others and kept more to herself led to the point that the other kids liked to pick on her, calling her weird and strange.

She didn't cared. She was used to it being the new girl at school and she was used to being treated that way. It wasn't like she tried to be this 'mysterious girl' with secrets how they called her, or to be the stuff from which horror stories were made of. She just didn't liked talking to people that much.

Maggie preferred the silence and being by herself so there were fewer things that could trigger her, or more that could trigger what was slumbered inside her, always trying to break free. It was better this way, safer. For everyone.

She was so engrossed in her writing that she didn't noticed the people around her or what was happening around her.

"None of what you're saying makes any sense!" She repeated again before her eyes followed his hand. Maggie raised an eyebrow and frowned in confusion, wondering what he was up to now. She barely had time to think before he had already had made a little card appear. Her mouth fell open slightly when she saw that, just for a millisecond before she regained her composure and collected herself again.

Maggie's eyes remained fixed on his hand and the small card as he took it down again and handed her the card. Just as confused as before, she looked up from the card and into his eyes. "What's that?" She asked as if she couldn't already guess what it was, as she slowly took the card from his hand and took a closer look at it.

"None Of What You're Saying Makes Any Sense!" She Repeated Again Before Her Eyes Followed His Hand. Maggie

The word Avengers was written in capital letters on it and his name Henry P. McCoy underneath. The moment she read this she heard him say 'Mama McCoy'. "McCoy…" She whispered more to herself and looked back at Hank, who was now kneeling in front of her and giving his Oscar-worthy performance. This sight and this act would definitely have made her laugh again if her head hadn't been somewhere else.

Her thoughts were literally circling around the name McCoy when a sudden pain went through her head, followed by scattered fragments of memories that were too blurry to really identify. Maggie touched her head briefly before rubbing her eyes, sort of trying to stop the images as she held the card out to Hank again.

"None Of What You're Saying Makes Any Sense!" She Repeated Again Before Her Eyes Followed His Hand. Maggie

That was ridiculous, McCoy was certainly a common name. For sure that meant absolutely nothing.

"Okay… fine...! You win…" She said quietly, finally giving in. "I'll go with you…"

It was already dark outside and the people around were already about to leave to get back home.

Only Maggie still stood at the place standing infront the giant christmas tree the city had placed there, looking up and starring at the tree. It was frezing outside but Maggie wasn't really dressed for this kind of weather. She had no jacket, hat, scarf or gloves or anything else that protected you from the cold wind and wet weather.

After the last people had left Maggie thought she was alone at the place, not realizing that there was another boy who also hadn't left yet.

All in all, you could say they had been successful in their mission, they had defeated some of HADES staff so that they could no longer cause any further harm. However, Maggie still wasn't completely satisfied or happy with what they had achieved. The men she had hoped to finally stop were not there like always. It almost seemed they had just disappeared into nothingness.

Somehow this had already thought so that she wouldn't find them there. They had probably died the day the lab was destroyed and even if they were still alive they would never be so stupid as to get caught so easily. And yet it still made her angry to know that they still could be running around freely.

Maggie had been silent the entire time since they left the building. The fight wasn't particularly difficult, it was just the number of opponents that was so exhausting. Maggie had followed Kwannon to the bar in silence and as she looked around Maggie couldn't help but think that under normal circumstances she would have no business being in a place like this. But what was normal anyway?

As soon as they sat down, Maggie heard Kwannon ordering two drinks before she felt her hand on her shoulder and Kwannon's question brought Maggie out of her thoughts. She shrugged as she starred into her drink. "I don't know." She answered honestly, "I thought this would feel more like a success. That it would feel… better... But it doesn't feel like anything at all."

"Why should I be lying with telling you to be carefull?" Maggie asked. It didn't really made any sense for her. She could have understood if she had told her to follow her or anything like that but she only had told Shiori to take care of herself.

Maggie then smiled slightly "You want my name? Now why should I trust you to tell you my name?" She then let out a sigh.

"Fine. You want names? I give you names. Beware of the Boogeyman because he's coming for you." She said. It might have sounded like a joke, a scary story that was told to children so that they would behave, but Maggie's expression told her, this wasn't a joke, she was serious.

"He's after you and he won't rest before he got you. He's working for an organization called HADES. An organization that hunts people with 'special abilities' and kidnaps them."

"I'm not sure if green fur would suit you," Maggie laughed and shook her head. "And you as the Grinch? Hard to imagine," she grinned and looked back at Hank. "You'd always have to put on a grumpy face and I'm not sure you could do that as much as you're always smiling."

Her grin faded again as Maggie frowned slightly after she saw Hank's thoughtful expression and sensed that something seemed to be bothering him. She was unsure whether she should ask or not. On the one hand, it felt like it was none of her business, but on the other hand, she couldn't just ignore it. Before she could decide whether it would be better to talk to him about it or not, he had put on his usual smile again, but it immediately disappeared again while Hank averted his gaze.

Maggie could clearly feel the emotions going through him again. She felt the pain and sadness as if they were her own emotions. This time, however, she didn't think so much and simply reached out to place her hand on his. Still sitting on the floor next to Hank, she looked up at him and gave him a small smile in an attempt to comfort him while sending a feeling of warmth and comfort through his body. "It's okay. I know how that feels," she said in a comforting voice but decided to not say much more about this.

It was crazy, the way Maggie was smiling at Hank right now, made her look exactly like Edna when she was always smiling.

Then Maggie nodded when Hank talked about keeping it their secret, that he was eating like a 'beast'. With a gesture of her hand she indicated that she sealed her mouth with a key and then threw the key away before she grinned sheepishly and scratched her temple in embarrassment.

"I… don't know how to play such games..."

"I'm Not Sure If Green Fur Would Suit You," Maggie Laughed And Shook Her Head. "And You As The Grinch?

Maggie sneaked slowly and quietly through the corridors of this old warehouse. She had received information that pointed to HYDRA and HADES. Clues that she now followed up on. If this was true, then it was her job to stop the two organizations.

Under no circumstances would she let them continue to act freely and abuse others for their own purposes. With a gun in her hand, she quietly entered a room from which she had heard noises and pointed the gun at the stranger in front of her.

"Freeze!" She said in a calm voice, her eyes fixed on the stranger who had his back to her.

Maggie shrugged with her shoulders "Don't know... All the people in this city are kinda... annoying. It's always so loud and hectic. Besides... I know how much you miss your parents. So I thought... well... You know. I mean... You don't have to come. I can go alone."

There was a reason Maggie always hid away from large crowds. Until now she had stayed at places that were abonded, places where not a single soul went, places where most people probably didn't even knew they existed.

Maggie had lived away from civilization for so long that she found it strange to be around people. It felt like she didn't really belong. The fact that the Avengers constantly talked about contacting child protective services certainly didn't make it any easier for her to feel like she belonged here. It wasn't like she didn't understand why they had to do that. As far as they knew she could be a runaway, a rebellious child who ran away from home. Of course it was their duty to contact child protective services.

They never discussed it infornt of her but they didn't had to. She knew what they were thinking and she would rather run away than to go with the child protective services. And maybe it was exactly this what she tried to do. Run away. Just like she always did when things seemed to get dangerous for her.

Maggie didn't know how long the Avengers would let Hank placate them before they made the call.

Maggie just shrugged her shoulders. He was probably right in what he said. She probably just needed to get out more, to face more of what she was always hiding and running away from, but she wouldn't admit it. It was much easier to just keep barricading herself behind closed doors and avoiding this matter than to face it all and learn to control everything that was going on inside her. However, she was sure that she would always prefer the quiet idyll to the hectic city.

"Maybe…" she finally said. "It's just not easy to get used to all of this." In the laboratory, where she spent most of her life, they hadn't really prepared her for living in a big city. For as long as she could remember, she had been isolated from the outside world. She didn't exist outside the labs and the world outside didn't existed for her. Even when she finally escaped, she remained hidden. For her it was a miracle that she stayed here so long. Maggie was always on the move and never stayed in one place for too long.

Maggie raised her eyebrow and grinned crookedly as she suddenly saw him jump out of the room like a bouncy ball that had been thrown too hard onto the floor. After Hank disappeared through the door, Maggie also got up to pack her things, not that she had much to pack. Everything she owned fit into one bag, which was always packed in case she had to suddenly and quickly disappear. All she had to do was grab her bag and leave immediately.

It took a while for the captain to be persuaded to let Hank and Maggie go, but in the end he had no chance against Hank's great persuasive skills. Maggie wasn't surprised, after all he had managed to persuade her to come here with him with practically no problem. So it happened that they had been in Colorado for several days now.

Maggie sat in front of the fireplace and had been quiet for a while as she stared thoughtfully into the fire. This was nothing new for her. If you knew her for more than a few hours, you already knew she did this often, starring thoughtfully into the distance or things. How long was she now living with Hank and the others? And still she hadn't told them anything about her. Nothing about who she was or where she came from. All they knew was that she was a girl named Mara which of course, wasn't exactly right.

"Hank...?" She finally broke the silence. "Can I tell you something? But you have to promise not to get mad…" She said quietly and carefully as she grabbed her right wrist, something she always did when she was unsure or afraid of something.

"I wasn't completely honest with you…" She added after a short pause, but didn't look in his direction and instead continued to stare into the fire.

"'Hoi polloi'?" Maggie repeated confused and tilted her head as she raised an eyebrow. She had never heard of one of her father's friends named Tess. Then again she barely had heard of any of his friends and she also never really asked.

For a moment, Maggie looked her up and down, keeping her distance just in case Tess wasn't really who she said she was. After a few seconds, Maggie looked up into Tess's eyes again. The woman in front of her didn't seem to be lying or she was just very good at hiding it.

Even if Maggie was good at reading others she still had her weaknesses and could be deceived. "I'm Maggie," she finally said in a calm but careful tone. She rarely told strangers her real name right away, but if Tess was a friend of her father's, it wouldn't make any sense to give her a fake name.
