you smiled at your reflection, satisfied with the outfit you’d picked out for the night’s festivities. the boys had a big performance today, and luke claimed it was their ticket to playing the orpheum - how true that was, you didn’t know. you hoped so, it was their dream and with the way the band was blowing up, it certainly wasn’t out of the question for their futures.
you moved over to your vanity, picking up the necklace reggie had given you for your six month anniversary. it was a simple heart shape, with a small engraving on the back. ‘my girl’. he told you that as long as you wore it, he’d always be with you. naturally, you wore it everyday.
some may think it was weird or possessive of him to deem you as ‘his girl’, but really it was never the case. when your relationship started, you’d gone from a loser nobody to one of the most popular girls in school, all because you were known as reggie's girl. you didn’t mind it anyways, you loved being reminded that he was yours and you were his, completely.
clasping the necklace on tight, you pulled on reggie's infamous leather jacket (which you may or may not have stolen), and slipped out the door, waving your parents goodbye as you began the short walk to bobby’s garage, where you knew the guys would be warming up and practicing for their big night.
you didn’t bother knocking when you heard the intense sound of drums spilling out from the garage, laughing quietly to yourself at the lack of peace their neighbours must get. you pulled open the door, sliding through and quickly shutting it behind you. you turned, expecting to see all the boys mid-song, only to find alex and luke shredding by themselves. alex seemed to notice your presence then, halting his movements and waving, catching luke’s attention too.
“hey y/n!” alex called, and luke nodded in acknowledgment, and you smiled, greeting them both. you looked around, seeing bobby scribbling something down on a piece of paper while sat on the couch with reggie nowhere to be found.
“hey, where’s reg-” you started, before hearing a cry of distress coming from the loft. you looked at the boys in pure confusion, before luke scoffed.
“he can’t find his special jacket.” he replied, answering your unasked question. luke’s eyes slid down your figure, rolling his eyes. “i told him you’d have it.” he grumbled, directing alex to start over their song once again.
you shook your head, moving over to the ladder and climbing up, seeing reggie in a disheveled state. he looked panicked and as adorable as you found him, you felt a little guilty knowing this was your fault. he hadn’t noticed you yet, so you slowly walked over, careful not to make a sound.
you learned over his shoulder, whispering a quiet “boo!”. he jumped and squealed, launching himself forward and hitting a box they’d kept a bunch of junk in. reggie’s expression looked like a deer caught in the headlights as he processed what happened, and when his eyes fell on you he pouted. you burst into laughter, unable to contain yourself. reggie huffed, before he seemed to remember what he was doing and jumped up.
“oh my gosh, y/n! you’re here! quick, help me look for my jacket! you know i can’t play a show without you having it on, it’ll be bad luck! ugh, i don’t know where it could be, i’ve looked everywhere!” reggie babbled, frantically spinning around and searching for the leather fabric.
you giggled quietly, tugging gently on his sleeve to catch his attention. he looked at you and frowned, upset you weren't helping him before you raised your arm, showing him the sleeve that was just a little bit too long for you. his face lit up, and you couldn't help but smile.
“you found it!” he exclaimed, surging forward and wrapping his arms around your waist, lifting and spinning you around in glee. you laughed happily, your mind clouded with him and him only. when your feet touched the ground, you leaned in, connecting your lips passionately.
little did you know, there were a pair of eyes glaring daggers at the two of you. bobby’s fists were clenched to the point of turning white watching the two of you laughing happily together, not a care in the world. he wanted to be in reggie’s place, you were the perfect girl and he was unbelievably jealous you weren’t his.
he didn’t ask to feel this way of course, reggie was one of his best friends - his brother even. if he could forget all about his feelings for you, he’d do it in a heartbeat. not only was he lying to the people he called a family, every time he saw you two together, it felt like a stab to the chest. he was sure he was in love with you - of course, you’d never feel the same. you were so in love with reggie, and everyone, even those who didn’t know you, could tell immediately upon seeing the two of you together.
“alright love birds, as much as i love gagging at your disgusting signs of affection, can we please get back to rehearsal? we have a show tonight!” luke called, breaking the two (three, actually - unknowingly including bobby) out of their stupor. you giggled, pecking reggie once more before climbing down the ladder with him following closely behind.
you situated yourself on the couch while the boys took their places and you watched as they started up their set for the night, soon falling asleep listening to them play (which may seem impossible, but you’ve spent so many nights with them you’ve become immune).
you awoke an hour or so later to reggie gently shaking you awake, telling you it's time to head to the venue. you happily took his offered hand and stood up, not letting go and allowing him to pull you out of the garage. you all packed into bobby’s parents’ van (you made a mental note to thank them for lending it later), and took off.
you arrived shortly after, and the boys rushed inside, apparently late. you shook your head at them, of course they’d be late to one of their biggest gigs yet. you walked slowly behind them, not bothering to follow them into the chaos they were undoubtedly dealing with right now. you instead walked over to a girl who was cleaning the tables, and made some small conversation. she was nice enough, and the two of you got along fairly well.
the guys set up their instruments on the stage (mostly helping alex) and soon enough began practicing once again. you bid farewell to the girl you met, not wanting to keep her from work for too long. you made your way to the large clear doors, and peaked out to see the long line of mostly girls waiting outside the venue, smiling proudly. you hoped this night went perfectly, the guys worked so hard and deserved this.
before you knew it, the line began to be let in and you made your way to the front, where you always stood. this spot was perfect for reggie’s vision from the stage, and after the one time you made the mistake of standing in the back and freaking him out (thinking you’d been kidnapped or something), you decided staying in one spot always was probably the safest bet.
you made small talk with the same girl from before until you noticed the lights dim, and began cheering - the crowd following suit. due to your proximity, you could faintly make out the four moving shapes crossing the stage, and you bounced on the balls of your feet in anticipation. sure, you listened to their music multiple times a day, but seeing them in front of a crowd was a totally different experience and you couldn’t have been prouder of them.
the spotlight flicked onto luke, and he waved to the crowd, earning another cheer. he smirked at the other boys, before strumming his guitar and beginning their opening song. you enjoyed the concert, singing the lyrics along with the fans in the crowd, dancing with the people next to you and having the time of your life.
you perked up when you heard the familiar guitar tune of the next song, and you shot your head up at reggie, who only winked at you. they hadn’t told you they were playing your favourite song of theirs, now or never. this was definitely reggie’s doing - still, you felt yourself blushing and shook your head. how this boy still made you feel this way after so long was beyond you.
when his solos hit, he made sure to hold eye contact with you the whole time, and you were sure you heard some “awe’s” from the crowd. you paid them no mind though, and kept your eyes on him the whole time. you couldn’t explain the pride in your chest watching him and the guys live out their dreams, and you were so grateful they let you into their lives to be there when it all happened.
bobby made sure to scan the crowd as he sang, ‘accidentally’ passing over you each time - much to his disappointment (but not surprise), your eyes were glued to reggie. it hurt seeing it, but he knew the two of you were happy and that was all that mattered. or at least he kept telling himself that. he tried not to think about you as he played, but you were always there - every rehearsal, every show. it was nearly impossible to dissociate you with his music.
the set ended in a huge eruption of cheers and claps, and still, you were sure you were the loudest of them all. the guys all stepped forward, taking a bow and soaking in the energy of the show, before making their way backstage. you quickly followed, flashing the security guard your pass before running after them.
“reggie!” you called, and he turned just in time to catch you throwing yourself at him in a huge hug. he laughed, squeezing you back just as tightly and sighing in content. you pulled away to look at his face, gently brushing his sweaty hair out of his face. “that was amazing.” you whispered lovingly, never breaking eye contact. you leaned in, pecking him quickly - you were still aware the other guys were in the room.
“hell yeah it was amazing! did you see the crowd? and this is only the beginning. imagine the orpheum!” luke exaggerated, earning whoops from the other guys. you quickly broke from reggie’s embrace, making your way over and hugging alex, then luke and bobby.
“seriously guys, that was probably one of the best shows you’ve done. they loved you! your hardwork is really paying off.” you complimented, and alex came over, ruffling your hair. you pouted at this, causing them all to laugh at you and reggie came behind you, wrapping his arms around you and resting his head on your shoulder.
“you really think so?” he asked quietly, and you nodded confidently. he smiled bigger at this, turning and leaving a small kiss on your neck before standing up straight. “i don’t know about you guys, but i’m starving. let’s go eat!” everyone agreed, and with an arm around your waist, reggie guided you out of the building through the back door. you laughed as you were climbing into the van, but noticed bobby was nowhere to be seen.
“i’ll be right back guys!” you said before running back, peaking your head in the door to see bobby staring off, lost in thought. “bobby?” you called, and he flinched, turning towards you. “you coming?”
he shook his head, clearing his thoughts before nodding. “i’ll be right out, just grabbing some water.” he confirmed, and you smiled at him, closing the door and heading back to the van to wait with the other boys.
bobby stood in the rec room with a sigh, mentally slapping himself for the giddy feeling in his chest when you smiled at him and came looking for him. he had to remind himself it was nothing. you were friends. you had a boy who you loved very much and he cared for you equally as much, if not more. you were and always would be reggie’s girl, and bobby had to accept that.
