Bowser Was Awesome - Tumblr Posts

Ok, after a day of meditating, I think I understand why I did not liked Mario's voice in the trailer, and It was evident even from the preshow:

You see, you can feel how almost everybody was extremely happy about the movie. It was pure excitement and there was a sensation of "I'm so proud of being part of this and what I contribute to this movie".

Except from one person, who looked like he just had to be there, trying to remember a script.

Then we see the teaser and you can hear how everyone is having fun. I applaud the work made by the animators and the voice acting of the rest of the cast. They just put so much energy into the characters that I forgot who was voicing who. I was so invested.

And then Mario speaks and that ilusion disappears and you just hear the person behind the microphone.

It's not that Chris Pratt's voice is bad. I think I can get use to it. I think I understand the "Ordinary man" approach to the character. It totally makes sense. I even experiment with family and friends who are not interested in videogames to see their reactions. They liked the trailer and many said they might/will see the movie. But then I asked them what they thought of Mario's voice and the consensus was a "Meh". Not bad but not good. Kinda boring. Forgettable.

And it hit me, It's not that it was bad...

IT WAS MEDIOCRE.

And it was even more evident when everyone was putting their 110%. His performance transmited nothing. It felt empty, hollow, lifeless. To be fair, It's probably because we had just two lines, but this was not a good first look to how he is going to sound for the final product and that worries me a little.

I hope this is just one of those cases where the trailer voices were recorded first and he was getting used to the character. But yeah, if Chris Pratt had a lot to prove after the announcement of the casting...

Now he will had it even harder to convince the public he is actually putting the effort.
