Yoongi watched you leave after the movie had ended and watched you walk into your unit, listening to make sure you locked the door before scratching the back of his neck and walking back inside. He shut off the television and shuffled into the bedroom to get ready for bed while his mind replayed the evening over and over. He sighed as he laid down and stared up at the ceiling as the memory of how you had fallen asleep against him during the movie and nestled your brow against his neck played in his mind. He grinned at the thought and imagined you were laying beside him, with a hand on his chest and your leg over his. He imagined you tilting your face up to kiss his neck and slipped away to sleep.
In his dream, he kissed you. Soft and sweetly. It was a sunny day in his apartment and you were wearing a light sundress with thin straps and little flowers on it. He pushed his hand into your hair and drew you closer to him with a hand on your back. You moaned his name and he was happy to oblige. He let the hand on your back move down the curve of your spine and take the firm flesh of your backside in its grip. You moaned again and ghosted your fingertips over his neck, sending a wave of goosebumps crashing down his body. He shuddered and kissed you again before urging you back on to the bed. You giggled as he smiled down at you a moment before pulling his shirt off and groaning into your kiss as your fingers tickled down his chest and lightly pinched his nipples. He eased his knee between yours and sank between your legs then pulled you up enough to be able to pull your dress off.
He flung it to the ground and gazed down into your eyes as you watched him. He felt the energy shift as he held your sides. Your eyes were deep and warm as you grinned and tilted your head up to kiss him. Your hands moved to his back and held his shoulders as you pulled him back with you.
You smiled and cupped his cheek. “I want you, Yoongi. Make love to me.”
“I’d love to.” He grinned and dipped down to kiss you again as you moved your legs up around his waist and drew him to you.
The ringing of his phone in the real world yanked him from his dream.
He groaned and frowned hard, rubbing his eye with the back of his hand as he rose up onto his elbow, his brain slowly woke up and began to go through the list of people who could be calling him at this hour.
What time was it, anyway? He grabbed his phone from the bedside table and fell on to his back as he opened it up and urged thoughts of what your naked breasts would look like from his mind so his half-hard cock would settle down.
2:30.
He sighed when he saw it was his ex and sat up, his heart hammering in his chest as his mind conjured up the worst case scenarios. The home she was in was older. Had it caught on fire? Was his daughter sick? Had something happened? He answered the call and pressed the phone to his ear. “Ye-Jin, is Hye-Kyeong okay?”
“Come get this brat. I can’t fucking handle her!” She took the phone from her mouth and screamed. “No! You’re going to Yoongi’s home. He can deal with your pathetic ass. Monsters under your bed. Pathetic! You’re too old for this!”
Yoongi fumed as he shot out of bed. “Hey! Hey! Do not talk to her like that. She’s a child. You cannot be going off on her like that. You’re going to cause psychological problems that will impact her for years to come. She doesn’t deserve that.”
“Get her out of my house! And take the fucking dog too! I’m done with both of them.”
Hearing his baby, his little princess, his inspiration, his only true joy, cry in the background shredded his heart. He wanted to reach through the phone and pull her into the safety of his arms. The fact that he couldn’t, made his rage grow hotter.
“Stop talking like that!” He grabbed his wallet and keys then stepped into his shoes. “Put Hiroshi on.”
“You wanna talk to him? Fine. Here.”
“What has gotten into you?” Yoongi heard Ye-Jin’s new boyfriend ask as he locked his apartment and hurried to the elevator while tugging his shirt on. “Yoongi?”
“What’s happening there? Is Hye-Kyeong okay?” He stabbed the down button with his finger multiple times before the door finally dinged and opened.
“She had a nightmare about a monster being under the bed.” Hiroshi sighed as he neared Hye-Kyeong. “There’s a little park by our place. I’m going to get Hye-Kyeong dressed and packed and take her there to see if I can help her calm down until you get here.”
“Thanks man.” Yoongi sighed as he sank into the seat of his car and ran a hand over his face. “I appreciate it. Can I talk to her real fast?”
“Of course. Hye-Kyeong, your dad wants to talk to you. Here, talk to him. He’s worried about you.”
He waited a few moments before he heard his daughter sniffle. “Daddy?”
His heart sank into the pit of his stomach. “Hi baby. I’m going to come and get you and Holy, okay? I’ll be there as fast as I can. Hiroshi is going to help you get ready and then he’s going to take you to the park to play for a bit. I love you.”
“Love you.” She ended the call, her voice small and sounding as though she were on the verge of fresh tears.
Yoongi’s hard eyes stared out the windshield at nothing in particular and let out a steadying breath through his nose as he ran the tip of his tongue over his bottom lip. He fired up the car and drove in silence as his mind converted his feelings into lyrics he intended to write down as soon as he got home and comforted his daughter.
He pulled into the parking lot for the park, quickly spotting his daughter swinging slowly while Hiroshi sat beside her and his poodle, Holy, watched her with a slowly wagging tail.
She was too little for this. It was just a nightmare. All Ye-Jin had to do was comfort her, tell her everything was fine and make a show of scaring off the monster under the bed. Or just let her sleep in their bed for the night. The simplicity of the problem made Yoongi all the more angry, but now, he had to focus on fixing it. He couldn’t let her know how angry. She wouldn’t understand he was angry at her mother and would think she was to blame.
He got out of the car and took several deep breaths as he approached. “Baby?”
Seeing Yoongi approach was all it took for Hye-Kyeong to leap from her seat with tears beginning to stream from her face as she ran to him. “Daddy!”
The dog followed after, barking and jumping excitedly as Yoongi stooped over to pick his daughter up and pulled her close to him in a tight hug.
“It’s okay baby. Daddy’s here. I’m here.” He nestled his cheek against her little face and sighed as she gripped on to his hair as tightly as she could with her chubby little hands while Holy hopped up against him and barked eagerly. “Everything’s going to be okay.”
He looked up to see Hiroshi walking slowly towards him, his thin lips in a hard line as he held the small pink backpack and pink glitter suitcase in his large hands. The man looked as though he hadn’t slept in days and hadn’t eaten in as much time with the way his black jeans hung on his hips.
Hiroshi shook his head and sighed, running a hand over his face before catching and holding Yoongi’s look then walked with him to the car. Yoongi unlocked it and watched Hiroshi load the front seat for him.. “It’s been a rough night. I don’t know what’s gotten into Ye-Jin, man. She’s been acting crazy something fierce recently. She won’t tell me what’s wrong, but anyway, I packed as much as I could. She’s had a bit of a cold, so I packed her medicine, her bear, and her new coloring book, and a pack of crayons too.”
Yoongi nodded and rubbed Hye-Kyeong’s back as she tucked her face against his neck. Her tears ran down his back and made him shiver. "Thanks, man. I appreciate you taking care of my daughter."
"She's a good kid with a big heart. She's a sweetie. Aren't you, Hye-Kyeong?" Hiroshi smoothed a hand over her hair as he tried to see her face.
"Do you want to go to my place? I can make you some hot cocoa and read you a story."
The girl sniffled and raised her head to look at her father with a tear-stained face. "Will you scare the monster under the bed?"
"Of course I will." Yoongi kissed her brow and rested his head against hers as he turned towards Hiroshi and held out his fist. "Thanks again, man. I'll call Ye-Jin tomorrow."
Hiroshi nodded, stroking Hye-Kyeong's hair again before offering a weak smile and helping Holy into his own bucket-like seat in the back of the car. "You'll feel better with your daddy sweetie. He'll take good care of you. I'll see you two later."
"Bye." Hye-Kyeong waved without lifting her head and yawned… music to Yoongi's ears as he nodded to Hiroshi and then helped her into her car seat and slipped into his seat then turned the engine over and found a station playing jazz. It wasn't his style, but he'd found if he played it at a low enough volume while driving, Hye-Kyeong would fall asleep quickly.
It worked again as he eased the car out of the parking lot and down the dimly lit street.
Once he returned home, he carefully gathered her things and pulled first Holy, then Hye-Kyeong out, then went to the elevator, minding the curious dog darting in front of him as he went. He held her close in silence as she drooled on his shoulder while the lift climbed to his floor. He passed by your door and checked his watch when he saw blue light from your television going.
Why were you up at 4 am on a Sunday? Could neither of his girls sleep well that night?
He smirked at the idea of casually calling you his. He liked it. He liked it a lot, but he felt his walls go up a little. Hye-Kyeong had dealt with too much for at least one night. Hopefully it was the only one if Hiroshi had told him the truth.
He found himself in a suddenly precarious place financially.
It hadn’t been easy to make ends meet recently with several of his songs being axed. He really shouldn’t have bought you your helmet last night. The urge to provide safety and security had overwhelmed him in the moment and he’d given in. He had enough money to make sure he could keep a roof over everyone’s head, the lights on, food in their bellies at least (he could skip a few meals), and gas in the tank.
Winter was coming soon though. He could feel it in the air that whipped through his hair. He’d have to make sure Hye-Kyeong had warm clothes and presents for when Christmas came around. He groaned inwardly. She’d want a little tree to decorate with all the projects she’d be set on making.
He opened the door to his unit and sighed as he let the dog go inside first.
“Hi.”
Yoongi paused and looked over his shoulder at the sound of his daughter’s greeting. No one was there, even after waiting a few moments. “Who are you talking to, baby?”
The girl raised her head and wiped her eyes before pointing towards your door. “The man over there. He came around the corner and waved.”
Weird. “Where’d the man go?”
“Back the way he came.”
Very weird. He’d have to remember to talk to you later to see if you’ve noticed anything weird. He went to step inside and paused again, hesitating in the threshold. Had you locked your door when he’d left? Were you safe?
He could only deal with one thing at a time. If you needed help, you’d let him know. He had to trust that. For now, it felt like all was quiet on the southern front. He inhaled deeply and went inside, locking the door and setting Hye-Kyeong down before setting her things on the sofa. Yoongi held his hand out to her and let the dog off his leash. “Shall we get you to bed, little one?"
She rubbed her eye and nodded as she took his hand.
"Okay." He gave her a soft smile and took her bear then guided her back to her bedroom.
"No monsters here." She yawned as she and Yoongi bent over to check under the bed before he helped her up into the mound of pillows and stuffed animals she had collected in her little life.
"Nope. No monsters here. Daddy scares them all away. But if you ever need anything, I'll always be here for you. Okay? You just need to call out my name." He pulled the covers over her as Holy jumped up beside her and snuggled behind her knees when she shifted onto her side. He stroked her hair back from her face as she laid her head down. "I love you."
"Love you too, daddy."
"Good boy, Holy. Sweet dreams baby." He went to the door and held the switch in his fingers as he watched her nod off, then shut the light off and shuffled to his room where he flung himself back into bed and pulled the covers up with a hard yawn.
It wasn't long until you visited his dreams again, comforting him with a hug. "You don't have to do everything yourself. You're only human, not a god."
"Huh." He chuckled as he held you close and gazed down into your eyes. "You called me God last night."

The sky had begun to fade from brilliant blue to dusky purple and hazy pink with the horizon catching fire with red and orange. Traffic was flowing smoothly and the radio was playing all your favorite music. The feeling of a wonderfully calm evening was beginning to settle into you as the road began to curve gently North after you passed the Dongjak Bridge, the Han River barely visible over the trees with the dim glow of the city on the other side shimmering in the rippling water. You felt the wheel of your car beginning to vibrate hard in your hands. The car began to shudder and slow despite you hitting the gas.
“Oh no, no, no…” You checked your mirrors and made your way to the right hand lane, hitting your hazards as your car came to a stop, smoke spewing from under the hood. You sighed and turned the car off then grabbed your bag. You searched inside for your phone before realizing you didn’t have it and remembered you had left it on the counter that morning. You cursed under your breath and checked your mirror again before getting out of your car.

“Sucks there are no shops open tonight.” Yoongi sipped the coffee you had bought him at the café next to the convenience store. “I can give you a ride home if you need it.”
She shook her head. “You’ve been so kind and helpful, I’d hate to take advantage of you.”
He gave a breathy laugh and took another pull of his drink. “You’re not a burden. Where do you live?”
“Yangpyeong Hanshin apartments. They’re near the….”
He smirked, his eyes lighting up. “Off the Seobu Expressway. You’re kidding me right?”
Your eyes went wide with confusion. You shook your head and gasped when he handed you his helmet, which you took with both hands.
“I live there too. What are the chances? Come on, smalls.” He clapped a hand on your shoulder and guided you towards his motorcycle. He sat on it and kicked it to life as he took your hand and helped you sit behind him. “You see? You’re not a burden at all.”
He kicked the kickstand back and pulled away while you held on to his sides, more relaxed this time around. You watched the glowing city pass you by as Yoongi steered the bike towards your homes.
He sat back at one light and turned his head so you could hear him better. “Are you seeing anyone?”
You leaned closer to him. “No. Are you?”
“Nope.”
The light changed and the Yoongi took off, making you gasp and wrap your arms tightly around him. Yoongi chuckled, making you laugh too. “You did that on purpose!”
“Maybe.” You felt him shrug a shoulder.
On the way home, the two of you made small talk whenever you came to a stop. You talked about favorite food (he had a weakness for anything with lamb in it), favorite books (The Alchemist right now, but give it a few weeks though and that might change), favorite colors (blue or green, he couldn’t decide).
Eventually, he steered the motorcycle into the apartment complex and drove slowly. “Which building are you in?”
“Three.”
“No, you’re not.”
“I am! Are you in three too?”
“Yes! Which floor?”
“Twenty six.”
“I’m on twenty six!” He shook his head as you both laughed. “Did you just move in or something? I’ve been here for three years.”
“I’ve been here two years.”
“And we’ve never once seen each other. That’s insane.” He parked the motorcycle in his spot and helped you off before dismounting and kicking the kickstand into place. He took the helmet from you and walked with you to the elevators. After a moment the doors opened and you both stepped inside. He hit the button and shrugged. “I guess we probably would have run into each other sooner if I worked normal hours.”
“What do you do?”
“I’m a musician. I write songs and produce them.”
“Oh, that’s cool. I’m a kindergarten teacher.” His eyes softened at that and he looked… proud? “Do you like kids?”
“They’re great. I like how curious they are about everything. They’re creative as hel… heck too.” He bowed his head and tightened his lips back. “I’m sorry about my mouth. It gets me into trouble all the time. You’d think I’d know better by now.”
“It’s okay.” You tucked your hands in the pockets of your cardigan as you walked down the corridor, pausing a few doors down and chucking a thumb at the door. “This is me. Thanks for all your help tonight. You were a lifesaver.”
“Happy to help.” He put his hands in his jacket and looked up at the moon then cleared his throat. “Well… I’ll see you around hopefully.”
You smiled and fished for your keys and pulled them out. “I hope so. Good night Yoongi.”
He returned your smile. “Good night Y/N.”
You unlocked your door and stepped inside before curiously glancing down the corridor to see him unlock a door not far from yours. You grinned when he glanced over at you and smiled before you stepped back inside and closed the door for the evening.

Weeks had passed without running into each other again. Part of you wondered if he had moved or if he was close to being married to his job. Until one Saturday, a knock came at your door. You opened it and smiled.
“Yoongi! How are you? Would you like to come in?” You stepped to the side when you realized he was holding his helmet.
“Actually, I was wondering if you wanted to go for a ride? The weather’s finally nice out. Thought it might be nice to take advantage of it while I could.”
You stared at the helmet and tilted your head to the side. It had been nearly a solid week of rain, but today was a reminder that it was Spring. The grass was bright green, the sky brilliant blue, the clouds puffy and white. The temperature was nearly perfectly warm with a slightly cool breeze. You gave a lopsided grin and grabbed your keys from the bowl on the entryway table and stepped into your shoes. “Yeah, let’s go!”
He grinned and dipped his head as he waited for you to lock your door. “I’ll have to stop and get gas before we go. I should have enough for a while, but we can get snacks and drinks too if you want.”
He handed you his helmet and lead you down to his motorcycle while you caught up on what had been happening since you’d last seen each other. He helped you on the bike and took off down the road, smiling to himself when you hugged him.
He pulled into a station not far from your home and pulled up to a pump. “I’ll buy the gas if you want to get snacks.”
“Sure, what would you like?”
“Beef jerky and whatever bottled coffee they have, please.”
You smiled and went inside, passing by a group of men closer to the front of the shop. After paying for everything, you walked outside, pulling a strand of hair behind your ear as you passed by the group of men, who walked beside you.
“Hey baby girl. What is something so sweet doing in a place like this? Let us take you somewhere real nice.”
“We’ll treat you real good baby.”
“Like a queen.”
The group surrounded you and you felt your heart leap into your throat as you brought your hands up under your chin, fear fogging your brain.
“Hey!” Yoongi’s voice boomed as he strode over to you with fire in his eyes, framed by his spiky blond hair. “Get away from her or there will be problems. You wanna fuck with someone, you fuck with me.”
“Min Yoongi!” One close to your left gasped and turned to hurry back to his vehicle.
“Shit. We’re sorry Mr. Min. We didn’t know she was your girl. Our bad man. Our bad.” The one who stood in front of you held his hands up as he moved away from you.
“She’s off limits Mr. Min. It’s well noted.” Another to your right did his best to smile as he held a hand up before turning towards you as Yoongi stalked up to him, coming toe to toe with him, his hands balled into tight fists at his sides. “We’re very sorry to have disturbed you, ma’am. Have a wonderful day.”
Yoongi watched with a sneer as he left before the anger drained away and he looked to you.
“They’re scared of you.”
Yoongi dropped his eyes to the ground and nodded. “Music’s not the easiest industry to break into. Do you still feel safe with me?”
You regarded him carefully before glancing back at the other men who saw you look at them and dove into their vehicles, firing them up and leaving the parking lot as quickly as they could. You looked back at Yoongi and nodded slowly. “Yes.”
He gave you a lopsided grin and put his hand between your shoulder blades. “Thanks, smalls. Come on. We’ll go see how beautiful this place is and forget this happened. The day’s still young.”
You rested your head against his back as he pulled out of the parking lot and got back on the expressway.
You enjoyed the scenery as it passed, watching the city eventually give way to the countryside as you went. You slowly found yourself holding less tightly to Yoongi as you went, your comfort with being on the bike growing more and more.
He steered the motorcycle up a mountain and pulled over to the side, handing you your drink before walking with you over to the edge of the mountain that overlooked a valley bathed in wildflowers.
“Wow.”
“I come here to think sometimes. This is my safe place. You know? Nothing bothers me when I’m here.” He sat on a large rock, drawing his left knee up and propping his boot on it. He rested his arm on his knee and took a swig of his coffee.
“Thank you for sharing it with me. It’s stunning.”
“Thanks for coming with me.” He glanced down at the ground for a moment with a small smile playing on his lips. “I like being around you.”
“I like being around you too.”
You gazed out at the valley for a while before he got restless. He walked with you back to the bike and turned the bike around, heading home as a storm began to grow over downtown.
“I guess we better hurry to beat it.” Yoongi pulled you closer to him. “Hang on, smalls.”
You let out a peel of laughter as he urged the bike to go faster and the world became a blur of color as you rested your head against his shoulder and caught the scent of his cologne again.
He slowed down when he entered the city, even more so when he passed a police officer.
When you reached your apartment floor, he walked you to your door and paused when you stepped inside. “Can I ask you something?”
“Of course.”
“Would you want to go on a date with me? Like a proper one.” He scratched the palm of his hand and looked down the corridor to his left. “At a restaurant or something.”
“I’d like that Yoongi.” You smiled when his eyes snapped to you, wide and full of wonderment. “I’d like that a lot. Friday?”
“Friday.” He beamed with a full gummy smile. “7:30?”
“Perfect.” You smiled back at him, practically able to feel the energy radiating off of him. “I’ll see you then.”
“Good night, smalls.”
“Good night, Yoongs.”
You heard him laugh then heave a content sigh as he walked away before you closed your door.

Holly was barking and trying to run in circles with his back hips tucked low as he scurried around Yoongi’s feet, tripping him in the process.
Yoongi shot his left arm out to try and catch himself on the corner of the wall.
He heard the snap before his brain registered it. Oh no. There was a brief moment where he felt nothing in his shoulder. A moment that made the muscles in his back and stomach tense. He knew the pain was inevitable, but his brain was slow to register it as though it was giving him a second to brace and think about how he was going to react.
When it had initially been injured years ago, he had cried. He had almost died. No one that responded to the incident blamed him for crying.
The second time he’d hurt it, he’d cursed. He’d been an idiot and pushed himself too hard in the gym.
Now… he had to consider how his daughter and Holly would react. He’d have to explain to Ye-Jin what had happened and try to calm everyone down while acting as though this wasn’t the worst pain he’d ever experienced.
“You can’t just expect me to….”
The pain was sharp as it ripped through the nerves in his shoulder, back, and neck. It made him gasp and his eyes fly wide open.
It had finally started to feel strong again. He had finally been able to start doing push ups painlessly again. He had finally started to bulk up and feel like a man. His basketball game had finally started to get strong again.
A fire ignited at the base of his heart. His face hardened and lyrics began to form in his head.
“You’re just using me for….”
“Daddy!”
He didn’t want to go backwards.
“That’s all you ever do you useless…!”
Bark bark!
“…wanna go to grandma’s house!"
Bark bark bark!
"I pay for everything all by myself!”
He tried to move his shoulder. Big mistake.
“You’re so pathetic, Yoongi!”
His scapula felt like it was being pried from his body like some terrible being was peeling a wing off of him.
