All your friends who have boyfriends or girlfriends always have the same complaint.

"I can't STAND it when they're on their phone. It's so annoying! Hours pass and they don't say a word to me. It bothers me so much!"

And for a while, you thought it over. You're dating, so it makes sense right? If they're with you, they should pay attention to you. After all, what's the point of being together if you're not talking or sharing? Isn't that what you do in a relationship? But then something happened...

When you walk into your bedroom tonight, there's your boyfriend, back against your headboard, legs manspread across your comforter, and thumb rhythmically scrolling through his phone. His hair is messy; clearly he's been sleeping in your bed for a while if his socks scattered across your floor have anything to say about it. Now your sheets will smell like him when you lie down later. He sighs as the light from his screen illuminates his freshly washed cheeks and damp eyelashes from his earlier hot shower.

You stand there for a moment. But he doesn't notice you, or if he does, he doesn't say anything to you.

"Hey, Koo."

He doesn't respond verbally. He doesn't smile at the sound of your voice. He just lifts his arms to provide ample space for you to shimmy your way into the spot between his legs. Your head rests against his chest, your own phone held in front of your face while his chin uses your hair as a prop. His legs gently enclose around you, twisting and interlocking with your limbs as if second nature. When his arm lays across your middle, you can play with the hair tie he keeps around his wrist for those times you forget one.

Still, he doesn't say anything and he doesn't even look at you while he cuddles you into a cocoon like embrace.

He's so familiar to you. Knowing him since you were kids, your first memories are with him playing in the yard and napping together on your mother's couch. He's always been there, and now that he's claimed you as his, you've been promised he always will be. You memorized each constellation of his freckles before you memorized your multiplication tables. He understood that flicker of excitement in your eyes before he understood his own thoughts.

Glancing up, you catch sight of his Instagram feed. He scrolls past a few pics, double tapping his members' posts and leaving a short string of emojis beneath the newest profile update from uarmyhope.

"What's that?" you ask.

"Hoba." He shows you the screen, titling it so you can see better.

"Cute."

And that's it. No analysis of how Hoseok's personal style has developed lately. No deep internal revelation of your own need to identify what your personal aesthetic should be. Jungkook doesn't feel the need to ask what you're doing on your phone and he doesn't make small talk with you while you scroll through your feed.

The silence is comforting. Just being with each other, no noise, no talking, no expectations. Outside is dark and in your room is very warm. His body is firm beneath you but his sweatshirt is fluffy and inviting. The bare skin of your thighs might be embarrassing if Jungkook had not been between them more times than you can count. But tonight isn't one of those nights. He doesn't try to start anything and neither do you, and that's okay.

He kisses the top of your head as you adjust, never once asking about your day or sharing about his. He just sits on his phone without a care in the world, allowing you to lean against his chest while you play on your phone. He doesn't pay you any special attention and you don't pay him any. Not on the surface anyway. You both text other people, like other posts, do other things. Every so often, you feel him shift beneath you and slowly sink further and further onto the bed, and you sink further and further into his embrace.

Hours pass and not a word is spoken.

And the funny thing is...it doesn't bother you one bit. You appreciate that Jungkook can be here and be on his phone. You like being able to be together, enjoying each other's company without the need of words or verbal confirmation. Just being here with him like this is rejuvenating.

When you rub your eyes, Jungkook reaches over to turn off your lamp as if on command. When Jungkook starts fiddling with the edge of the blanket, you immediately sit up to pull it back and help him cuddle inside safe and sound as if on routine.

When the two of you are ready to sleep, you place both your phones on their respective chargers and return to find Jungkook already with his eyes shut and his head resting prettily on your pillow.

He doesn't say a word; he just opens his arms to provide you ample space to crawl in with him, scooting close to his body and wrapping your arms around his waist so you can pull him closer. His lips find your forehead to press a gentle goodnight to your skin, and then he's asleep. Soundly and lovingly holding you to his heart so the beating sings you a lullaby into the night.

And he doesn't say a word.

But he doesn't have to.

And it doesn't bother you one bit.

okay nikki, i just finished it & this fic was something! this was a hell of a emotional rollercoaster, i thought i was going to have a mental breakdown in the middle of it because damn, i was not ready for it (also i didn’t read the summary, i just read this knowing damn well i’ll get heartbroken because you warned me millions of times 😭) BUT IT WAS SO GOOD SO THANKS FOR THE FIC ❤️

this fic was so damn good that i had to keep writing on my notes everything i’d think about scenes so i wouldn’t forget anything on this more than promised reblog 😮‍💨 & it’s long nikki just like your fic lmao

first of all, you had me crying with namjoon being married and a dad. i’m a weak person when i imagine him being all lovely with his wife and having mini copies of him running around him 🥺🥺 & to think that he’s going to have his own part in this series makes me definitely want to read it as soon as possible!! and also, i absolutely loved the way he defended his sister no matter what how close he was to jungkook! he was definitely a well-built character & i fell in love with him 🥴 but nothing new, i always fall in love when i see his face lmao

then, let’s just talk about how this fic starts! you had my reaction live because i immediately texted you since i was more than surprised! it was a extremely hot & then absolutely cute start, it just went from one thing to another very quickly & i simply wasn’t ready for it, like my brain didn’t have the time to process what was happening but it was definitely the best way to introduce this couple because i believe it just shows jungkook’s side (he’s just here for the sex) & oc’s side (she falls in love with him) so yeah it was a very very good start!

but i have mixed feelings for this jungkook. like i wasn’t buying any shit he was throwing at oc because he’s a womaniser, that’s obvious although at first, i thought he was just seeing oc but then you confirmed me that it wasn’t the case & it got very clear later on the fic! and that shitty ex he’s so hooked up to really made me want to slap them in the face!! 😤 BUT throughout the fic you made us understand that jungkook possibly had feelings for oc which is why i have mixed feelings for him. he isn’t totally a good fit for oc but maybe, just maybe he can treat her right. however all my hopes went down at the ending, this jungkook doesn’t deserve anything from oc, she’s too good for him & SHE DESERVES BETTER 😭😭

“It tickles me.” A soft laugh escaped your lips while your husband continued to cover your face with vivid kisses. Your hands did not hesitate to move his head a bit to examine his allure while still playing with his messy hair. 

“I let it grow a little. Should I shave it already?” he suggested blissfully. A hot shiver ran down your spine when your doting eyes met again that morning. 

“You’re so hot like this. I can get used to it.” you never failed to compliment his new looks.

You always adored his spontaneity.

“Practice makes it perfect, doesn’t it?” he asked confidently, giving you a deeper kiss this time. You could swear he could hear the bass playing in your soul. He still had that effect on you.

“The exhibition starts in one hour” 

"Stay!” he groaned sleepily, hugging you tighter into his muscular embrace as you were preparing to get up. With your head carefully placed on his bare chest, you were feeling inundated by his ambrosial, gentle scent- such a common and domestic feeling for you. 

“You know I have to go.” you sighed. With your apologetic eyes searching for his, making you already fight the need to leave your haven.

The curtains were moving quietly in the shivery breeze of April, sign that the window was left open overnight. Noticing that you were unquestionably disturbed by the cool temperature that overlaid the room, Taehyung covered you protectively with the wrinkled sheet that left your naked upper body victim of the cold. 

He loved the scene in front of him: the adorable smile that appeared on your small lips when your skin made contact with the warmish material, your soft hair resting on his shoulder, your steady breath, and how your body was trying to get closer and closer to him. You were so delicate from his perspective, so angelic and precious. He had this profound want to keep protecting you. And no one could change that.

“They won’t even notice you’re late.” Taehyung insisted. “Plus, it’s Friday and I don’t work today.” Sometimes his determination amazed you. 

“I organized it all. I can’t skip it like that.” you said under your breath. Taehyung seemed to understand when he smoothly loosened his secure hold, careful not to hurt you when he withdrew his arms.

“Five minutes. You can leave after. I promise” 

You witnessed the change of scenery in your room, golden sunlight decorating your bedding with a minimalist pattern. The city had returned to life after a rainy spring night. The neon-colored digital screens adorning the towering buildings were analyzed by dozens of tired drivers who stopped at the traffic lights. At this hour, dark-suited men with square bags were racing across diagonal crosswalks for the first train to the city center. The pink cherry blossom gingerly painted the wet sidewalks. Brunette teenage girls with healthy long legs thrusting out from checkered skirts were rapidly walking to high school. The noise of the urban agglomeration fighting in a cold war with the peace that has swallowed you both.

“Baby, I will be late.”

And you left. Not knowing that maybe that tender morning was the beginning of your sour end. - in a way or another.
