Thinking more about Anya from Mouthwashing….

In all of Jimmy’s pov gameplay, she is the least of a character out of everyone. In his perception, she is a quest giver. He never sees her unless she needs something. Even Daisuke and Swansea are seen ambling around, even if they don’t need anything. But Anya is GONE. You could scour the whole ship and not find her, because Jimmy simply does not care to see her.

She’s never around unless she’s causing a problem, and even when she’s causing a problem, Jimmy denies her her own agency. When she locks herself in medical, its “I won’t let you hurt Curly!” - when in reality what she’s doing - to her - is more along the lines of protecting both her and Curly from Jimmy. The gun was out. She considered killing Jimmy herself, but knew she couldn’t stomach it. Even in death, Jimmy couldn’t look at her, because that was HIS fault and he couldn’t look at her.

And then from Curly’s POV, you see her inner life. Her emotions and fears and the way she looks at the world. He goes out of his way to find her, and she is found, and she is a person with rich characterization. Swansea cares about her. Daisuke cares about her. Curly cares about her. Everyone seeks her out, and listens to her.

She just can’t stand to talk to Jimmy, and Jimmy can’t stand to look at her

yes yes yes!!! When she locked herself in I didnt understand at first why he was talking about her hurting curly when it was so so obvious that she wouldnt be able to harm him even to HELP him With the painmeds I mean And at the part where Curly delivers the news of the company shutting down to the crew and everyone takes the news very harshly FOR GOOD REASON It was interesting to see that Jimmy used Anya to shame/accuse Curly too I mean yes he named the consequences for all of them but that he mentioned her not getting into.. medical school was it? and not even gracing it with an actual explanation From Jimmys perspective we barely even see Anya as anything more than a continous source of chores But from Curlys perspective we see that even before he was abrasive and dismissive of her and everything she is and stands for even when he does finally say more than a few words to her and goes off about how all she ever does is give him “work” to do and she says she can do it herself and that he doesnt have to do it He doubles down and says he'll do it so he just shamed her over nothing for no other reason than to make her feel horrible (because that was his goal. not to make her do it herself. not to actually convince her of doing it even. Its just so he can rattle off all the things he has done (which were so so easy lets be honest. all of those things he named were easy af) and make himself look like he has any idea what hes doing. like he can handle the responsibility that he was envious of Curly having before Anya deserved so much better and I hate that I already saw someone say that she was the reason for everything in the game going wrong how do you look at Jimmy next to Anya and go “Ah yes she is the evil in this game” like come on sorry for the rant op but I am going insane over this game a bit I also might be getting things wrong. I should play the game again once I have less uni work to do again
