Can someone explain to me why they thought they needed to make Billy Lenz jaundice in the 2006 remake? Like, was it just another reason for his mother to hate him? Did the director or scriptwriter have a nightmare about the human version of Spongebob and decide to work that into the movie?

I've thought about this for a long time and have asked most of my friends about it just to see if anyone has a reason
one of them thought maybe it has to do with his mother's alcoholism because that makes your organs shitty and can give you jaundice
and supposedly it can be passed to your kids
but like.... Agnes should be yellow too right?
