*Please note that Ruthie and Trey's relationship is platonic!*

You guys have no idea how much I love Trey and Ruthie's relationship ♡ I was so excited to write this lol ♡

 :

⋆ He knew of Ruthie through her father first, a man by the name of Luke Marraine. He was a single father, his wife leaving him shortly after Ruthie was born. He owned a candy store in town, a chocolatier by trade. It wouldn't be until he was eight that he would learn about him, overhearing his parents one day. Apparently he met someone, leaving to start a new life with them in the Shaftlands. A new life that didn't involve Ruthie, choosing to abandon his daughter for the fresh start he wanted. His parents had been furious when they heard he left her behind, as she was only the same age as Trey. Who leaves an eight year old alone in the Queendom of Roses, with no place to come home to?

⋆ They were relieved when they learned that Mr. Glenn, the old man that owns Bippity Boppity Bakery, and his partner, Dr. Dimitri, had taken her in, knowing she was in good hands. Trey would see her on occasion, mainly in passing as they would enter or leave their respective homes, the two bakeries sitting across from each other. Whenever they would make eye contact, Ruthie would wave at him shyly, Trey waving back. It always made a small smile come to her face, this pattern continuing as the years went by. It wouldn't be until their last year of middle school that they would talk to each other for the first time, Trey approaching her outside Bippity Boppity Bakery one day.

⋆ She stood outside the bakery handing out samples for some new pastries they had, her short hair in their signature pigtails. She was wearing a long sleeved dress with a turtleneck like collar, the bottom of the dress sitting below her knees. Over top her dress was a white frilly apron, with pockets for holding utensils. A small smile came to her face when she noticed Trey, shyly greeting him as he stood in front of her.

"You're...Ruthie, right? I figured it was about time I introduced myself. My name is Trey, my family owns Clover Bakery across the street."

He points towards the bakery before turning back to her, a smile on his face. She looks at him for a moment before looking down at the samples in her hand, her smile growing wider at his introduction. She fiddles with the tray she's holding, shyly looking up at him.

"Yes, I'm Ruthie. It's so nice to meet you, Tray!"

Suddenly her eyes light up in delight, moving closer towards him in her excitement.

"Wait...Tray? Like a baking tray? Oh, that's so clever! You truly are from a family of bakers!"

⋆ He laughs awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. He feels bad having to ruin her enthusiasm.

"Actually, it's Trey...with an e."

At his words she paused, becoming flustered due to her mistake. She wants to cover her face with her hands but is unable to, her hands full at the moment.

"Ah! I'm so sorry! How silly of me to assume..."

He reassures her it's alright, changing the subject by asking about the samples she was holding. She described each one as Trey tried them, discussing recipes and baking techniques. The conversation ended when Trey's mom called for him, telling him that dinner was ready. He hadn't even realized how long they spent talking to each other, having enjoyed her company that much. Ruthie waved him goodbye as he left, heading back into her own home shortly afterwards.

⋆ They would strike up conversations whenever they would see each other, Trey growing curious as to where she would always disappear to. When he asked, she told him she was visiting a friend, explaining that she couldn't leave her house due to personal issues. It made him think of Riddle, and how him and Che'nya would go see him when they were younger, encouraging him to sneak out and play.

⋆ Time went by, and soon they were graduating middle school, already preparing for when they would start at their new schools. Since Trey would be leaving the Queendom of Roses, he wanted to spend as much time with his friends as possible, including Ruthie. She seemed to be happier than usual the past few weeks, putting more attention into her appearance. He was sweeping outside Clover Bakery when he saw her across the street, leaving Bippity Boppity Bakery. She was wearing a nice dress, with her hair down and her make up done. He couldn't help but think she looked pretty, calling and waving to her. She waved back, a smile on her face as she walked over to him.

"You look nice. Going somewhere?"

Her face grows warm at his compliment, nodding eagerly. She shyly explains she's meeting up with someone, turning to look down the street. The smile on her face grew, her eyes locked on what she saw. Trey turned, curious to know what she was staring at. Near the end of the street was a young man around their age, holding a bouquet of roses. He looked like a prince you'd see in a fairy tale, wearing regal looking clothes to match. He was smiling as he stared back at Ruthie, his eyes shining with adoration. Trey couldn't help but feel happy for her.

⋆ "Well, don't keep him waiting now. Wouldn't want to miss your date."

Ruthie's face turned pink at his teasing, startling her out of the trance she was in. She thanks him before rushing over to meet with her date, Trey watching as he takes her hand and kisses her knuckles before handing her the bouquet of roses. He smiles as they go, Ruthie looking the happiest he's ever seen her. He couldn't wait to hear all about it the next time they saw each other.

⋆ The next time they see each other is sooner than he expected, helping his parents close the bakery for the night. As he's wiping down tables he notices movement coming from outside, looking out the window to see Ruthie running by. He was shocked to see how upset she was, tearing streaming down her face. He rushed outside, trying to call out to her but it was too late, watching as the door to Bippity Boppity Bakery slammed shut.

⋆ Days passed before he saw her again, greeting her like he normally would. He was surprised when she didn't respond, only smiling and waving at him before walking away. He decided to approach her again later that day, wanting to bring up something he's been thinking about for a while.

"Hey, Ruthie! I was wondering if you wanted to hang out with me and my friends tomorrow. You already know Che'nya, but you haven't met Riddle yet. I think you'd like him, even if he seems a bit strict."

She hesitates for a moment, clearly conflicted. Her smile was sad for a moment before she beamed at him, clapping her hands together.

"Actually Trey, why doesn't my classmate join you guys instead? I think you two would really get along!"

"Huh?"

"She has a big sweet tooth, so I know she'd love your baking! And her older brother is going to school to become a dentist! Isn't that neat?"

"That's great and all, but-"

"Here, I can give you her number if you want! Or if you prefer, I can give you her Magicam account instead!"

As she continued trying to set him up with her classmate, he couldn't help but wonder what had changed, thinking back to when he saw her crying a few nights ago.

What happened that night, Ruthie? ♡
