But This Reaction (which Was So Clear). Why? - Tumblr Posts
I know Millie has been a big ‘Melvin’ supporter for practically her entire run on the show (up until recently perhaps 🧐), and that’s lead some people to doubt the validity of Byler being endgame considering Millie knows a lot about her character and the lore of the show. But if people want to analyze the reactions of the cast as being hints, it’s not really her to look at. In fact not really her at all.
The creators still have to keep fairly tight lipped about cluing any of the actors on important plot details unless it’s absolutely necessary they need to know the information in order to act out a scene. Especially given these are young actors who were children for most of their time on the show. In my opinion, the only major cracks in Melvin’s relationship from the side of El appeared in season 4. And even if Millie knew their relationship was in a rocky place, she might have assumed that it would get patched up in Season 5.
Again, if you really want to analyze the reactions of the cast - I would be looking at Finn. Who is (unsurprisingly) very giddy about Will’s arc and cold towards Melvin. He might have actually been the very first one clued in about a potential Byler endgame, even before Noah. I think by the time of Season 3, he would have absolutely been told if Mike was going to be gay, especially considering 1. Mike starts acting a bit strangely at this point and 2. this is a minor who is theoretically getting asked to portray a queer character. We unfortunately still live in a homophobic world where actors can and do get harassment for things like this. They would have needed the consent of him and his parents before starting to weave in any kind of gay storyline.
So when I see Finn’s reactions in interviews….

…even though it feels like reading tea leaves to me most of the time, I can’t help but feel like it’s good evidence.
