2:50p – slow afternoons with iwaizumi hajime.
a/n. hello! here's the first installment in my 200 follower event! requests for this event ARE still open so feel free to send one in! hope u enjoy:)
content. gender neutral!reader. soft iwa.

grey hour. that’s how you’d describe it. stormy grey clouds blocked out any inkling of the sun trying to shine between the trees. rain pattered against the window panes, leaves swaying with the wind in your front yard. you sighed softly, settling into your seat on the couch. you leaned up against the arm of the sofa, legs splayed out across the cushions. you brought the warm coffee mug to your lips, sipping the drink. you closed your eyes slowly. it was peaceful.
the lights were dimmed, just the bright white clouds illuminating your living room. you pulled out your current read and flipped to the page you’d last been on. hajime was out picking up the dry cleaning. he’d wanted to get it done early that morning but you’d insisted on staying in bed a while longer.
you leaned back and started your read. you were still in the beginning of the book, getting to know the characters and learning about the story's setting. the characters intrigued you, one of them actually reminding you of iwaizumi with a brute-like demeanor at first glance. Still, you suspected that would slowly melt away as he gained more comfortability within the story.
you failed to notice the jangling of keys against the front door and the cold gust that blew through the house when hajime walked in the door, dry cleaning in one hand. you were too engrossed in your book, too comfortable from the soft blanket wrapped around your body.
hajime smiled softly and walked past you, opting to put the dry cleaning neatly on the bed rather than put it away at the given moment. he kicked off his shoes and walked past you on the couch, dropping a kiss on your forehead as he went past.
you smiled up at him and went back to the book, flipping to the next page impatiently. hajime returned shortly after and stood to the side, just admiring the way the light hit your face, the shadows the page-turning cast amongst your chin, and the way your expression changed almost microscopically as you read each sentence. he knew you were enjoying your book and typically he’d leave you to it, not wanting to interrupt but today was different. he just wanted to be with you.
you let out a soft ‘oomph’ as hajime collapsed into your lap and squirmed upward so his head was resting on your stomach. you dog eared your page and looked down at him, eyebrows creased with confusion, but your smile showed amusement.
“missed you,” he said, adjusting himself so his arms were wrapped around your waist. he sighed, breathing you in. you were wearing his shirt. this one was your favorite.
“i missed you too, haji.” you set the book down on the back of the couch, hands coming down to rake through iwaizumi’s hair. his shoulders relaxed, eyes fluttering shut. you giggled softly at him.
you two stayed their for a moment, the only noise being the howling wind and the sound of your delicate fingertips lightly scratching his scalp. hajime was the first to break the silence. he kept his eyes closed, just barely above a whisper he said, “how’s your book?”
you smiled and recounted what you’d gathered from the first few chapters. hajime just hummed in response, letting your soft, comforting voice lull him to sleep. he knew you wouldn’t mind. you were eager to get back to your reading. as his breathing began evening out he felt you remove your hands from his hair, reaching for the book, you gently rested the spine on his head and turned the page. he sunk deeper into your embrace, dozing off ever so peacefully.
