Time Magic And Enchantment

Time Magic and Enchantment

Many people wish that they can turn back time, whether that is to change the past or to relive a certain event. While time travel is not possible in the mundane world, I find time magic to be a potent ingredient in enchantment and manifestation.

Time magic is just as it sounds: the power to manipulate and control time. When done successfully, you can enchant situations retroactively or usher in a desired outcome. I often add an element of time in my spellwork, even when I am working on influencing the present.

When wanting to perform a retroactive action or enchantment, I refer to powers of Yuna D. Kaito and Sakura Kinomoto in Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card. I personally prefer these approaches and techniques over those of Homura Akemi of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, for example, mainly because Homura’s time manipulation lacks substance when trying to glean anything usable for spellcraft; in Cardcaptor Sakura, however, we have several magical tools (namely Sakura’s cards and Kaito’s pocket watch), incantations, and even a depiction of an alternate dimension the magic user can work in where they remain unaffected by the passage and rewinding of time.

When working to manifest something yet to pass, I find Sakura’s approach most fruitful. In 2022, I created a personal divination deck inspired by Sakura’s cards throughout her journey using a meta-paradigm my partner has been developing. While each Clow, Sakura, and Clear Card is not fully represented in my deck, many of the cards contain multitudes. Besides divination, I often utilize the cards individually as entities, involving them in my spellcraft and summoning them for particular actions. My ‘Time’ card also contains elements of ‘Rewind’. I often pair this card with another to emphasize and further enchant what I want to manifest. (For example, I have paired ‘Flower’ with ‘Time’ for opportunity to blossom.) To drive the magic home, I operate as if my desired outcome is already done—that my present is the future I have successfully influenced.

This post is part of my Magi Praxis series. If you have any suggestions for future topics, please send me a message! I am always happy to go back and provide further explanation as well. ☆
